StarCraft: Brood War is a magical game. The incredible world of Korean eSports it created and the thousands of people who still love to play it nearly 20 years since its release are a testament to that much. But 20 years is a long time, and Brood War's technology increasingly has become incompatible with modern computers.
Even for those who can get the game to launch and run properly, hosting and joining matches is another story. And even then, the game's lack of any of the modern features we've come to expect from online games – like a matchmaking system – make finding someone to play with even harder. The dedicated few go through a lot of trouble just to play the game they love, but for most people it's far too much to ask.

Could you explain the section regarding Blizzard interaction? Does ShieldBattery require a legal copy of StarCraft to work?

But Collins is confident they'll be fine. ShieldBattery, unlike the World of WarCraft server, requires a copy of StarCraft to function. And in his communications with Blizzard so far, they “weren't NOT supportive.” In other words, full-steam ahead until further notice.

I think the key word from Wrath's question was "legal" which wasn't explicitly specified in the article.

Great article. I have some critic tho from the screenshots i saw, i find the visual design too basic and some icons inappropriate like match button, birthday cake with candle.

plain and functional UI is great. imo working on more features >>> making pretty UI

so, in relation to blizzard:
i think what they're saying here is most likely the same "we don't really mind" atm as they say with respect to iccup. SC:BW is too small atm to be a concern for them, thus third party servers are tolerated in general.
If they would care, they'd try to close fish server down first, because it's the most popular server. (except -VS- server in China perhaps)

You know it is actually "only" Broodwar and you can play all the time and do not need to wait for this server? I do not get the people saying "I want to play", when you can play instantaneously..
