This also applies to mca64Launcher users if you play Fish Server!!
As many of you do or don't know, wLauncher comes with adware. You can't see the ads but they're there anyway. They've been using OpenCandy as a form of adware for a very long time, and they've switched to AdLoad in the 2.08 update.
Get the free version of MalwareBytes here, run wLauncher and reboot if you haven't already, run it again, then scan. https://www.malwarebytes.org/
This will not remove the ads on the Home page, and you shouldn't remove these ads as they are the major funding for wLauncher.

What is the difference between the wLauncher and ICCUP antihack?
|
wLauncher is for Fish, iCCup is for iCCup. They use different antihacks and wLauncher has a metric fuck ton of extra features.
iCCup has LAN latency and that's about it. wLauncher has six latency tags, game speed multiplier tags, map download optimizations, detailed network information per user in lobbies, and a lot more.
Not to mention the latency tags actually work. The other day I played with someone on the US east coast with #L1 just fine. Normally this would either be a freeze fest or over 1000 ping.

this is a cheat, steal money from advertiser. But i guess for koreans this is ok. Earlier Sonic, now this :D

Is this about the pages that open every time you close wlauncher?
|

No, the launcher pushes hidden ads through your PC so even if you kill wLauncher it's still there. AdLoad and OpenCandy aren't dangerous, but they're definitely not something you want on your PC.

Well there has to be a process that's running to be loading ads. Can you try determining which one that is?

I haven't found anything, but according to several different anti-malware scanners as well as some Korean players it's definitely always running, hence why it's malware. Not every process shows on your system, virus.exe doesn't exist d:

seems like this is another pointless post

the newer players may not know or remember, so its nice to remind them every now and then again

Is there a way to have "light" version of the mca64? Since I don't play on Fish (yet ) I'm not interested in having an adware on my PC...

just uncheck wdetector when run game from Fish tab

But if I'm playing on ICCUP and don't use Fish at all, won't be better to not have the wdetector on my PC at all?

mca64Launcher dont install wdetector.w anymore. Its downloaded on first run Fish tab when wdetector plugin is checked

just got adload again from wlauncher.. not even the hardiest antivirus scan can find it... too fun.
edit~ anyone have any experience removing it?? i tried both the OP's suggestion and mcafee, no dice.. op's suggestion originally found and eliminated it, but something from wlauncher is still constantly opening up a korean webpage in internet explore for me even if the pc is idle

I've noticed a couple of odd browser redirects/popups recently (one in april, one or two in may, one today)...
Got an ancient mca64launcher install (1.0.03), which comes with wdetector etc, could this be the cause? It feels weird since it had been there all along, but hadn't actually ran it on this installation before remastered was announced IIRC.
Not getting any korean related ads tho, and nothing showing up in scans... just, randomly had a site redirect to ad-looking URL a couple of times (not the same site, month apart), and a series of unexplained esports related popups (dingitv among others). 3 incidents across 3 months seems like very odd behaviour for malware so I'm very confused.

Wow, why were WinterViewbot420 and Probemicro banned? Automated ban list is silent.
|
winterviewbot420 was a massive troll back when people though that all foreign IPs were getting banned off of fish, and i think he pretended to be a fish admin somewhere where it got linked to his TL profile??? i don't remember the exact details
also (edit JINRO not nony, for some reason i associated frozen arbiter with nony for a second and thought that your icon was his) that sounds unrelated, when i had adload it would open an internet explorer window probably 3 times over the course of a 15 minute game, your virus sounds a lot more passive than the stuff in wlauncher
