Hi everyone, long time no see! After years of lurking (yes years, my last post before this was June 2012), I’ve decided to make a comeback to TeamLiquid with the most exciting and respectful way possible to our original StarCraft Broodwar community! This also officially marks my 3000th TL post (partially why I didn’t post all this time).
Recently as I was cruising through snipealot streams on twitch.tv and browsing TL BW threads, I’ve noticed amazing moments in StarCraft Broodwar scene in Korea! The rise of Sonic’s shoe empire and Sonic Starleague being hosted on Ongamenet, LoveTV’s high sponsored prize pool Starleague, and YellOw’s Kongdoo Starz League, it’s as if the long awaited revival to the Broodwar scene we all once loved is back in action! With 3 big Starleagues and many more events to come in near future, I feel there needs to be a call for something just BIG for all the English fans watching one of the most amazing game in modern history. Hence, I want to bring forward with the unity and organization of StarCraft English Commentators Thread!
Also this thread is for many viewers who wants know the availability of current English commentators’ status and who/what to expect in future events for someone who wants to watch StarCraft Broodwar in English.

+ Show Spoiler +So you want to be a caster/commentator? Or maybe you used to be one and want to get back in the scene? I’m here to help and get you started. Here’s some tips to keep in mind: + Show Spoiler [Casting vs Commentating] +
1. First thing to keep in mind is that the words “cast” and “commentate” are used interchangeably in this setting. I won’t go in detail with the whole history or references behind these facts but when anyone mentions casting a game vs commentating a game, casters vs commentators, or simply English cast vs English commentary, they all mean the same thing.
2. You have to question yourself whether you want to be a solo caster or co-cast with other people? Both are difficult choices where being able to constantly talk for the duration of a whole game by yourself vs sharing airtime with others where you have to constantly discipline yourself to not talk over one another. There’s no easy answer for either scenario but practice makes perfect right?
3. The main tools you absolutely need to individually cast games are a mic, a reasonable specs PC (for video editing), access to the content you’re casting from (live game or recorded game), and programs to put them all together such as video/audio recording programs and video editing programs (ie. Final Cut Pro for macs and Sony Vegas Pro for Windows PC).
Now if you are co-casting the games with others, you’ll have to find the game content at the same level (watching the games at the same time/minutes/seconds) and designate which one of you will create the new English content for everyone to see!
4. Always remember to have fun and enjoy doing English commentary because nothing is more satisfying than viewers from now to the future watching StarCraft with your voice! Who knows, maybe you’ll be the next Day9, Tasteless or Artosis!

Now there are two main types of casters (as seen below) which defines what type of English commentary you want be seen as. Live casters are those who commentate live games happening at that moment and on the spot. VOD casters are those who commentate off an already finished games through replays or VODs. Back in the day, I used to stream Proleague/OSL/MSL on livestream.com and twitch.tv, commentate/cast Korean SC BW in English, provided live speedy text translation from Korean to English during live SC BW events, be a long time fan of SK Telecom T1, zerg progamer  Hyuk ( even made a fancafe off him) and K-Pop idol IU, and self-proclaim myself as the one and only Korean Usher. Q: What made you make this thread?A: All these excitement happening around the current Korean StarCraft scene made me finally come out of my artificial cave of TL and start a new chapter in my life. That and many people on twitch, IRC, and elsewhere constantly nagged me to make my 3000th post already. Q: Why are you saying commentators in one line and casters in another?A: As mentioned in the “How to Cast” section, these two terms are used interchangeably in this setting and basically mean the same thing. i'm gathering information since the news of the Ro32, got send to this thread by Stratos.
I"ve been casting bw in French until the last OSL season on OGN on Elive.pro and Showprime.com which closed since then.
So my original plan was to cast live in English if nobody was doing it or else cast i in French. I'm fluent in English as well so i can join you or cast it on my side in French as you wish

Thanks! You should consider trying anyway and not worry about your voice! I personally hate listening to my own voice but that doesn't stop half of the things I do that involves communication!

Well I don't know any French at all so I don't think I could join your casting but you're always welcome to cast with me in English.

That being said, I noticed in about 10 and half hours, we'll have SSL 10 Ro32 Group A and B live. I noticed my thread came at a late point for that so to compensate, I MIGHT (not 100% definite) provide some sort of live English commentary tonight for those interested.
I'll probably have to reconfigure my stream settings, figure out how to get a suitable afreeca popout live stream going to use on VLC + OBS, and possibly do some warm up practice English casting off current afreeca streams beforehand but I'll let people know of the situation. Time to scout for anyone who can possibly help with my stream and/or co-casters.

my timezone is CET, so i won't be able to Cast the SSL, but since there are more events coming up, sign me in. I do live casting in general and im also eager to co-cast. Im casting stuff since the time people did audio commentaries basically and i prefer co-casting to solo casting for the options of interaction and taking different roles etc etc.

Hi konadora. I'm sure there's always a workaround that. Like for live casting, it doesn't necessary have to be from afreeca as our only source, we could always use twitch source (which is basically a restream of afreeca source so inception anyone?) or maybe by ro16 when it's on OGN, there'll be a private OGN feed like in the past.
But we'll see.

Vid was only a little over 2 hours in length, and other people already linked to VODs well over 2 hours. I shouldn't have any problems as I made my YT channel partnered or whatever they call it specifically so I could upload longer stuff.

That's happened to me because of copyright music. It gave me the too long message instead of copyright notice.

Well the twitch VOD should be watchable under any circumstances. Dunno why there is copyright issue, but could be YT thing picking up Sonics music in between games in the background.
Sadly I won't be available for much casting tonight as I have church here in an hour + driving time. If I get back in time I might be able to do the last game or two.

I won't be doing LIVE English commentary but I will do a restream/VOD English commentary definitely for Group C and D, especially to show my love for Hyuk.
Will keep people posted since I do need to finish reconfigure all settings on my PC.

Group D is there as well @ roughly 2hrs 40m.
Also thanks a lot for the english cast DoK_-, maybe there may not be as many viewers but having an english stream is pretty much essential if we hope to attract any new people to the game so you're a real hero thx ^^

Thank you guys so much for doing these english casts - you've got at least one raving fan here :D It's awesome to see a group of good knowlegable casters starting up again, reminds me of the days of rise/cholera/moletrap/diggity and of course the klazart.

Updated the OP based on relevant info on current caster list + who's casting which games on which match. In near future, I'll put the url or links that goes to the casting game (once I invested some time into it) next to the caster name on schedule section.

Alright sounds good, added you on VOD caster list. Same case for me too, aside from SSL10 thus far (which is noon time KST or 10 PM EST for me), KSL games today happened at 5 AM EST (2 AM PST). I fixed my insomnia problem just few days ago so waking up at 5 AM is a thing of a past now.... lol

Hey folks thanks for doing the English cast and recast; it would definitely help those interested in viewing the streams if they would link them in TL under the events section, especially once they go live. Also posting the event ahead of time in the event calender would obviously be beneficial for everyone.
