Also Last has to do his military service if he can (he still has to take painkillers constantly acording to his chat, maybe civil service like Flash?) so he is going to take it easy for now. Maybe

Last also has health issues and so can't do the volume of games necessary to compete at high levels. Though he did show up for that weird Blizzard team game/FFA event and looked pretty decent there.

I just want to point out that while I don't necessarily disagree with you in general, Zero did exactly this.
Pre military zero played with 250 apm (although high eapm relative to apm- mostly clean and useful actions). He was good lategame but had some holes in his early/mid game and played rather safe/predictably in general.
Post military Zero just somehow became an absolute beast. 350+ APM, insane multitasking. Plays the best early/midgame out of literally everyone now and has arguably reached the highest skill peak of any player in sc history; particularly during the last ASL he won.
No idea how he did it
