well can anyone post pictures of thoe huge korea games where TONS of people show up, prefferable the rumored boxer game which attracted 100,000 viewers (read this off that 1 top 10 gamers of all time (boxer won, and it said he attracted 100,000 people)

Thanks, because i was kind of like HELL YEAH, that game attracted more then the average super bowl (80k)
aka NrG.GoDz, nH.GoDz, GoDz[h20], GoDz[sK] (regretably) you get the picture. :p

100,000 would be a way overexaggerated number. There is no way any Starcraft game anywhere in the world that could attract that kind of audience, not even close.

That's a bit deceptive. Super Bowls generally attract capacity crowds. 80k is probably all the stadium can hold. Hundreds of millions more watch on TV.

That's not to say 100k isn't fucking awesome, but comparing it to Super Bowl numbers may be getting a bit ahead of yourself.

Is there a reliable reference for 100,000 people actually showing up? I've heard that before but it just seems way too big - that's more than a largue stadium's worth of people.

The LDS Conference center held about 79,000 I think.

In Japan they have huge stadiums and super domes. I'm sure Korea has some that are just as large. I don't want to throw out a random number but it may have been 150,000. I am not sure.

speaking of audiences, can the players hear the crowd's reaction? like does that add to their gameplay? Also can they hear the commentators? Or even see the crowd cheer could affect their game play

they DEFINITELY can't hear the commentators (wtf?) and they're not supposed to be able to hear the crowd either (headphones and sometimes protected in little boxes) but there have been accusations of "ear hacks" lol

I'm not sure about now but there have been occasions where a player has heard the crowd and used it to his advantage. Many people probably recall the time Boxer pulled his units away from stop lurkers because the fans were screaming. Because of incidents like that they probably try to prevent it hence the playing booth (in huge games) and thick headphones. I'm not sure if the thick headphones can block everything out but.

But you're forgetting that SC does not need the whole playing field to be played, so there is even more space for viewers. The game that had 100k live viewers was some final maybe a year ago, can't remember exactly and probably it isn't very hard to google accurate info about it.

There's a humming sound "produced" in the booths, Boxer once complained it was annoying him, so they are completely safe.
The incindent was with a small crowd in some indoor place and they had to leave after it.

It's rumored that these events draw over 100,000 spectators, but if you look out at the audiences, there's really no way that they can be bigger than 30,000. Unless what's happening is that people show up and then leave and other people replace them, in which case, YES there may be 100,000 people viewing the game, but NOT all at the same time.

Yeah, that picture shows many people, but I doubt that's 100,000. Consider how big an NFL stadium is...

iirc according to eForce it was 150,000, but Mensrea was there and said it was way less (something around 50k I think).

there's no way in hell there are anywhere near 100k people in that picture, not even half that. look at it ffs, compare it to a stadium gig at a stadium where everyone is standing so there's 2x the number of ppl on the flat than there are in this pic, AND they have 3/4 of the seats in the stadium with ppl sitting on them.

100k is utter BS and you're stupid to look at that picture and suspect there's even half that.

it's not even in a fucking stadium!

i have some pics
but where i upload?
have almost all starleagues finals....

the one..i think reach vs boxer, was the one that most impressed me
i saw somewhere that had 30k people there.
and 100k its possible, although i dont think would actually have that many people.

superbowl = limited -> stadium = 80k, so max = 80k.
starcraft = some outside area -> many many people..

The pictures dont really show how many ppl there are... to dark at borders. But the people u definatly see on those pics - i cant imagine that could even be 50k. i would guess smth about max 20k...

Just compare to this picture of the MelbourneCG (100.000ppl) and u only see there a little part of the stadium.

Hm, didn't they hold a final once in a stadium, and it was filled? I dunno. I remember they played some games in a stadium tho.

I think.

iirc that stadium could only hold 20k.

I think mensrea did a report on that one where 35k people showed up, but the stadium could only fit 20k people inside, so the rest were jipped!

not positive though.

I'm very, very sorry to bump such an old thread, however I was curious if anyone actually had any statistics concerning attendance numbers of Starcraft tournaments in South Korea. I'm writing up an article on e-Sports for the student paper at my university, and an estimate of the figures isn't really cutting it.

If someone has something especially concerning tournament attendance exceeding that of the Superbowl's (which I've frequently heard), it would be great.

Please post reliable sources only (websites with staff writers, or similar articles) please.

If you look at only the seats, then it looks less.

But if you count everyone on the sides (i.e. near the beach on the top, and all those people in the far back from the stage) then yes I think it is about 130,000 people.

Those numbers are around what I keep hearing as well, but I can't find the name of the arena in order to find its capacity.
