I've been watching a lot of bw streams lately, and I was curious as to why every match I've seen (over the course of probably a month) has been on Fighting Spirit 1.3.

Is this just a very popular map?

Are there bonuses involved for playing on this map?

Is it the only map that Fish and Brain servers allow?

Just curious

Thanks

It is just very popular. When it was in the pro scene map pool, it was considered as one of the most balanced maps ever. Eventually it gained popularity on each ladder, and now everyone is so comfortable with it they just like playing it. Another example would be Lost Temple or Python. These were the only maps people played for years, actually Python is still popular.

To answer your other questions, it doesn't give you any bonuses, unless it is motw on iccup. But I don't think that happens anymore. Also, people play other maps on fish, but 99% of the games are on fighting spirit because the Koreans are just so comfortable on it.

Ahh ok thanks. I suppose that if you find a map that works well for all races its good to play. Just seems like eventually ppl would want to switch it up a little bit!

If you want other maps, host them yourself.

I personally like hosting Circuit Breaker because I like that map.

it's comfortable to play on. there's no hanky panky to worry about. no cliffs over your nat. no hard to take third. no overly constricted terrain. no 2 player proxy every game bullshit. it's the map most players feel most comfortable playing on.

bw is complex enough that it's nice to keep something consistent when you're just playing/practicing

It's considered the most standard map and pretty well balanced (iccup stats), both by Koreans and Foreigners. It provides a ramp and a close by, relatively easy to take/defend third with a somewhat open middle and circular path. It's a 4 player map so it has plenty of expos, but it isn't huge or too small as some maps. It's symmetrical except the middle and some natural's minerals lines (and the bottom left main is annoying as fuck to build stuff in). Plus the natural choke isn't as weird or big as on some maps (Python I'm looking at you).

It was a normal, straight-up map after a bunch of witty maps that had non-standard features, so my guess is people jumped on it when it came out and stayed there. It's popular like once LT, Python or maybe Luna used to be, so most people play on it.

On iccup specifically, there are MOTW (maps of the week) that provide 30 (or 30% don't know exactly) more points if you play on them with the antihack on - so if FS is in that week's MOTW it's probably played a lot of times.

The harder it becomes, the more you should focus on the basics.

Balanced and probably about as standard of a map as it can get that isn't geared for few builds. Hence a very good map for you to practice great array of strategies and builds without severe map advantage or disadvantage.

Yea I hate FS and I have to constantly play on it, it sucks. The older maps suit my style way more. I think I'd be at least 1 rank higher on those maps.

if you can't host even after port forwarding it's because you don't have a public IP, nothing you can do about it except call your ISP

and I didn't like python much at all, TvP cross positions was so tough to play

I am just gonna assume you like Python and use this place to rant, cus I need it

Because, I hate that fucking map for ZvP with all my heart, not because it is an old map, but because the natural is retardedly hard to take.

Compare it to FS where every style is viable, it's just that retarded speedling all ins and hard-as-fuck-to-defend ling all ins even with proper wallins when you forge FE or the endless "hurp 2gate" which

I know what you are thinking, I should adjust my play to this, which I'd happily do if I didn't feel like the map doesnt force me to play a certain style and then people consider it a map on par with FS where aggressive isn't AS strong, but still strong enough that you can go balls to the wall and still be effective

Python is still stupid, I dont like

I wanna talk about how I love desti, fuck yeah I do

no hard to take third

It sure isn't. It's pretty much free for Protoss and Terran. Kinda frustrating for Zerg users as it limits their control over the flow of the game.
