SK Telecom T1 Fantasy: "The finals will be easier than the Ro4"
In the round of 4 of the tving Starleague, which is now attracting attention for its "repeat finals," the battle between SK Telecom T1's Fantasy and KT Rolster's Flash ended with a sweeping victory by Fantasy. Going against everyone's expectations, Fantasy crushed Flash 3-0. After the match, Fantasy said, "I'm confident I won't lose to Protoss. I want to capture this championship and maintain the SKT Terran legacy."
Q: What are your thoughts on defeating Flash and climbing your way to the finals? A: I came here with the goal of 3-0, but when it actually turned out that way, it just didn't seem real. I can't even describe how happy I am. I prepared hard and made it through.
Q: You played your games in front of many fans. A: I thought a lot of fans would come. But even then, the number of people that came to the stadium to watch was way more than I expected. To have won on such a stage, I'm so happy. It was really exciting.
Q: It seems that now you can finally rid yourself of the 2nd place/Kongline image. A: Because SC:BW is ending, if I don't win this time, then I'll forever remain as the guy in 2nd. I grit my teeth and practiced, and the results were good, so I'm satisfied.
Q: How were your preparations for the Ro4 match? A: Every time Flash plays a game, there are patterns in his play. I analyzed those patterns and prepared for them. But as we were playing Game 1, it seemed Flash had prepared very well as well. Up until the 2nd set, everything was the same but when approaching the 3rd set, I thought it would be disadvantageous to do the same thing again, so I consulted with Ssak-hyung and JyJ. I decided to change my build, and we saw the results of that.
Q: You had a 2 starport build prepared for Set 3. A: Sets 1 and 2 were the same, so I became familiar with the build that Flash was using. I changed my build to something else in Set 3, which led to my victory. It was some really fierce psychological warfare.
Q: You're going to be facing JangBi in a revenge finals match. A: I always have confidence in my versus Protoss. In the year following my defeat to Jangbi in the Jin Air OSL finals, I haven't lost a single game against Protoss. Last time, I was in the position of the Defending Champion, so I think I went into the games with defensive builds and mindset. This time, I'm the Challenger, so I will prepare hard accordingly.
Q: Have you thought about getting a perfect win? (That is, not dropping a single game throughout the entire OSL tournament. Fantasy is currently 9-0 in this OSL) A: To be honest, prior to the Round of 8, I didn't really consider it, and only said it on a whim. The truth is, I thought the Ro4 would be the danger zone, where I would drop a game. But now that I've won that 3-0, it's a record that I think is actually possible. But it's not something I'm overly worried about, so I'll just practice like I normally do.
Q: In your post-game TV interview, you said that if BoxeR and iloveoov came to your finals match, you would win. (?? not sure, correct if wrong please) A: Up until now, my SKT Terran seniors have all been 2-time OSL winners. In the past when I reached the finals, I would hear fans say things like "Fantasy is really an SKT Terran now," but because I could only win silvers, it was like the SKT Terran line was dying out. This time, I will definitely win and keep the SKT Terran legacy alive.
Q: Your thoughts on the map order for the finals? A: I don't think the maps make a huge difference. Because there are no maps like last season's "Pathfinder," I'll be able to crush with just my skill.
Q: What do you think the score for the finals will be? A: The best scenario would be a 3-0 or even a 3-1 win.
Q: Your resolutions for the finals? A: Everyone is playing SC2 while I'm still practicing BW, so it feels like I'm being left behind. For the Ro4 though our Terran line helped me a lot. For the finals, our Protoss line will also help me, and because the four of them are so good, I feel at ease. It should be easier than the Ro4.
Q: Jangbi said in his interview that he wanted Flash for his opponent in the finals. A: It's just my personal thought, but it seems that Jangbi's game style when he's playing against me is very particular, so he chose Flash instead. But I'm confident that I won't lose to a Protoss. I want to work hard and win another gold.
Q: Any last words? A: I've been preparing for this my whole life. I went in thinking, "If I lose this, it's over." But I got through. The team's situation isn't that great right now, but everyone still gave me a lot of help. I will repay them for their kindness in the future. I want to thank Ssak and JYJ for their help, even though they do not play much BW anymore, as well as Yoon Moonsoo, and Kim Ji Sung. I was able to change my build in the 3rd set thanks to Ssak and JYJ. I'm so happy that my games have received so much attention. Please continue to give your support and interest for the finals. I will strive to give Terran the championship.
Wow, didn't think fantasy would be so confident against jangbi. I really do see the 3-0 as a possibility. About to become the greatest legend in my mind (just because he'll be the last champion).
3 time consecutive osl finalist (5 osl finals), undefeated in proleague grand finals, possible undefeated OSL (and would put him in 10 game win streaks vs zerg and vs protoss).
Sad about BW ending, but all great things must come to an end. SC2 is great in other ways and lets all hope it can produce some of the epic moments that BW has.
I've been a huge fan ever since people ragged on him for his valkyrie builds and lack of titles! I'm probably most excited to see him play SC2, to be honest. Now, if only there were vultures in SC2.

Dont worry Fantasy you will get 3 losses in the Final

this. as great of a performance that fantasy displayed vs flash, I was really hoping we would get a couple extra sets since the games were so good. These very well may be the last boX sets we see for a long time, so I want them to last
Don't worry about falling behind in SC2, Fantasy, you will catch up. Focus on BW and take the last title! Good interview, thanks Kiett for translating.

Damnit how is Bisu supposed to get good at sc2 practicing with you!?! Make Best do it!

So happy for Fantasy ^_^
One of the annoying things about this is that people will always be able to say ''Fantasy focused on BW when everyone else was going for dual games''.
Thanks for the interview; hoping for a 5 game final!
Very bold by Fantasy, he is really determined to win this osl and this is very dangerous for Jangbi. Comparing their mindsets during the winners interviews seems like fantasy will be much more prepared and focused on win than Jangbi which worries me a bit. I hope we will not see bad 3-0 or something and Jangbi can win this, but again Fantasy is the more determined player and thats not good for his opponent. Now Jangbi should abandon any sc2 and prepare very well otherwise he has no chance.
If he wins the OSL he joins the very prestigious multiple OSL golds and ties Boxer and Oov for golds, and the Legend of the Fall remains true.. If he loses he ties Boxer for OSL silvers, and JangBi joins Garimto as the first Protoss to win 2 golds since G-Man won in 2002. O_o... Story lines, story lines everywhere.

Fantasy, the Crown Prince, what a boss. I was hoping for a 3-1/3-2 victory but your style blew me away... so typical of you lately...

To say 'master of preparation' is one thing, but to actually witness it in action... Also it's interesting how JangBi said the same thing about Flash's patterns (and won exploiting them).
Thanks for the translation. I'm so glad Fantasy have won today . Also, the games were good, liked them. He will crush Jangbi this time, i'm sure as hell (though the last time i was sure too...).
Meh, to think that Fanta could have been so close to winning 3 OSLs in a row. Freaking Jangbi getting in the way, he deserves what's coming for him in the finals.

And to think... 2-3 to Jaedong OSL final and 2-3 to Stork OSL final... 2-3 to Jangbi... Could u imagine if he had 2 of those OSL wins....
Even though I wanted Flash, gotta respect Fantasy for putting in the work and picking Flash apart. I like that he said he's focusing all on Broodwar, so I'll definitely be rooting for him in the finals.
Has anyone played a perfect OSL before? That would be ridiculously cool.
thanks for the translation.. really great games.. so happy for fantasy, finals will be awesome.. but feel bad for flash.. proleague finals now this.. just wish BW didn't have to phase out.. such a popular esport there.. don't know why it can't run independently.
I have already seen the future, many large protoss and terran armies clashing in open ground. And storms, tons and tons of storms. Fantasy you do not stand a chance.
Btw, anybody notice famtasy's macro slipping from time to time? Around 1-2k minerals

He hit 4k vs. Flash in game 2 iirc. His macro also slipped hard vs. Jangbi in g5 last season, but this time it was more because of the fact that he was all over the map at the time rather than just sloppy play.
I am so proud of Fantasy. The great thing about this OSL is that there were so many possible great storylines. Here we have the legacy of the SKT Terran line, back when Boxer first became the Terran hope and Emperor 11 years ago, and it comes (hopefully) full circle.

Congrats to Fantasy for making the finals. I'm hoping for the sickest finals possible. Cmon Fantasy, be the Terran hero you are and take the last OSL championship!

If only this were true. Grats to Fantasy but he'll always be in the kong line like Stork and Jangbi. On another note, it's interesting that they have only won their titles against each other.
Q: In your post-game TV interview, you said that if (T)BoxeR and (T)iloveoov came to your finals match, you would win.
If that happened, how could even Jangbi stand a chance?
he stand no chance. fantasy is on fire now. his mindset is put into play. this is the end for jangbi i guess. as flash said, if fantasy execute it perfectly. no1 can beat him.

In the last final , Fantasy was floating a ton of money in the last set where he basically could have won if he just macro'ed instead of flipping out when his setup got killed. Gas preference or not, if he doesn't spend vs Jangbi, hes dead.
mmm i'm kind of worried though. i think fantasy's game has 2 major weak points. the first is crisis management. fantasy is quite prone to getting overrun by early aggression, something that jangbi has become well known for recently (proxy robo in like 1/2 his pvt's). the second is macro. he was floating a lot of resources against flash and if you look to the last osl finals, his macro is one of the major things that let him down in the final set. i think jangbi stands a strong chance of taking this if fantasy doesn't patch the weaknesses in his game.
having said that, fuuuuark i wish zero had beaten jangbi. i would love to watch zero own fantasy with queens. zerg priiiide.

I don't know how Fantasy managed really, at one point in game 2, he had 4k mineral and 1k gas. And Flash had the greedier opening (14cc).

when did flash say that?
on the stream , before they play , someone translate it , fantasy say flash is good on his gosu game sense.
You have done it Fantasy. Having denied Flash the ultimate glory. For your results to reflect how good you are I wish BW went on forever but anyways getting 2 OSLs like your forefathers will be a huge step in that direction. Giving a tribute to BW to have a final like this.
i dont undastand how Fantasy win vs Flash 3-0 in Flash game(macro stile, he always build next CC early then Fantasy), but if Fantasy will play he's micro so good vs Jangbi - it will 3-0 again.
On July 19 2012 00:08 ymir233 wrote: How will a couple of carriers help you when 50 vultures have killed every single probe in your expos 9 minutes into the game, Jangbi?
3-0 Fantasy.
I would bet that 4-5 carriers will still take down all the terran buildings faster than 50 vultures can take down a toss main base protected by at least some cannons.

I think this to a lesser degree have been true over the entire season. You can see it in Fantasy's play that he's still passionate about BW and tries his hardest to prepare. He's grown a lot in my eyes over the last year, for being so committed to BW under this tough period. I hope he wins, but I will not be crushed if Jangbi wins either, because then he have accomplished something remarkable. I thought someone coming back from such a massive slump was impossible, but he did it and even surpassed himself. If Jangbi wins and then retires, they will eventually make a movie out of his career. His career is just that remarkable, especially if he ends it with a double gold. If he does, in my book he challenges Bisu as the best protoss of all time.
this is one reason why i cant stand fantasy arrogant to the last. Good job in the semifinals thouh punishing flash for playing to much sc2. Finals gonna be close i think since jangbi might be the slightly worse player but prepares and plays very well in bo5.

Thats the thing though, jangbi has nerves of steal. his spirit is so strong when he is behind, even more than flash i reckon. ˇˇ

Jangbi is missing team championships and PL dominance to contend with Stork and Bisu. While earning 2 OSL's is very good, he's not the best of all time. I still <3 him though.
Fantasy forever. This man embodies all I love about BW. 5 OSL Finals. C'mon Fantasy it isnt the Fall. Crush dat Jangbi like you did on God's Garden in epic fashion. Also #1 Elo Rank, #2 kespa rank. At the end of BW, when history is written, SKT Terran's stand head and shoulders above the rest as the greatest to play the game.
I am a Protoss fan so I would root for JangBi, but it somehow doesn't feel right for him to win the "last OSL." I'd much rather see Fantasy win. I'm a T1 fan a little more than a P fan I guess. Though Khan is my #2.

There's an argument that because skill is constantly increasing (well, at least before hybrid league, *shudder*), the people who were doing the best at the end are indeed the greatest.
I mean the play that made Savior a bonjwa is just trash by today's standards.

Even today's best does not match Flash 2010. Flawed argument.

I just said there is an argument. And it's clear that any one who would call an old-school player "best of all time" would be wrong BY THIS METRIC. I didn't say that the best player must be the one who wins the final OSL, because the whole argument is based on the assumption that skill is always increasing, which is not a given.
At one side, I'm a Protoss through and through, even as I have changed to T recently in SC2, I will ALWAYS be a Toss. But for some reason, I just want Fantasy to take this.
About the Jangbi being the best Toss, I... don't think so. Personal opinion, but Stork and Bisu have more accomplishments than Jangbi. I mean even the Gold part, Bisu does have more if you take all of the finals into account, not just OSL and MSL. Stork is the same way. So, no, I can't put Jangbi up on top, but he will be there if he manages this.
It is sad for us fans because we don't get the quality of games we used to.
It is sad for Fantasy because in retrospect everyone is going say "Well yeah, so he beat Flash 3-0. It was the last OSL and everybody was already practicing hardcore for SC2, so it doesn't really count."
It is sad for Flash because he was beaten under value.
It is sad for JangBi because although he made it the finals, he won't be able to prove anything there.
Yes, I'm grumpy. Honestly though, instead of this slow and painful ordeal*, why couldn't they just let Broodwar die like a warrior? One last epic battle followed by a clean cut to sever head from shoulders.
I'm talking about this whole mixed SC2/BW thing, with neither of the games being played as it should be. Just in case anyone's wondering what I'm referring to.
Despite all this, congratz to Fantasy and the best of luck in the finals.

umm.....I thought both jangbi vs zero and flash vs fantasy(less so on that one) were really good games....heres hoping jangbi shows the true might of CARRIER GA!
