I don't understand it fully, as the article contains some advanced vocabulary, so if anyone understands Korean and can read it, post anything I missed or any mistakes I made.
Article 1 Article 2
A private contract with KTF signed by Choi Yun-sung (iloveoov) from SKTelecom has been exposed, gathering eSport's officials for a conferance.
Discussing 4 issues including Oov's illegal contract, Peter's (legionnaire) failure to show in time at his last match, Yooi's warning, and the computer problem that occured during the ChoJJa vs fOru match.
Last Februrary, while making his contract with SKT1, Oov secretly made a contract with KTF, and during last April, Oov attempted to cancel the contract with KTF.
The situation itself is not the main problem, but the fact that Oov, who's already part of a team, does not have the right to make private contracts without consulting his team officials, thus breaking eSports rules.
On April 12th, SKT1 and Oov made a contract paying Oov 150,000,000won, (approximately $150,000) in 1 year, and up to 45,000,000won ($450,000). But in Februrary, a contract with KTF was made for 3 years, paying 45,000,000won.
The penalty for this according to the rules, would be a 2 week suspension. It is unknown what the final decision is, but let's hope it's somewhat good...
|
I dont really understand. But oov seems to be a bad boy =D
|
|
45,000,000,000 for 3 years.. that is 15,000,000,000 for 1 year... and if you convert that to dollars, that is 12,500,000 for 1 year... dude, i think you put 3 extra 0s... correct it please....
|
lol, progaming takes another step towards becoming a fully-established sport..

what was Yoois warning?
and why didnt leg show up to his last match?

i dunno about yoos but leg was late for the match and missed it.
so what was oov's contract for? giving them free wins?
|
|
If I correctly recall, leg showed up a little late (though not seriously) for his match vs yooi, and yooi's manager wanted it to count as a forfeit for leg, and mbc was forced to comply. However, word was that yooi had shown up for his last match even later than leg was, but only recieved a warning.

i think leg was 9 mins late...

Maybe he wants to leave because he doesn't feel like he gets enough respect... I bet at KTF he would be the top terran. At SKT1 Boxer is still the terran captain, no?

yeah like that matters

Oh come one, you honestley believe Oov would do that or that , that would be his motive for leaving? He speaks of Boxer like a God, they are like brothers, and Oov wouldn't be the player he is today, if not for Lim so you that throw that idea out the window.

maybe for koreans thinks like that are important..

I really don't understand why oov did it.

he's not trying to leave, he just made two contract commitments last year, and he's not allowed to individually without consulting certain people...

Oov must stay in SKT1...
If oov attempted to cancel the contract then hes probably ganna stay

i don't understand why KTF did it.... free wins?? but i haven't noticed Oov doing bad against KTF players or something

is it just me or KTF manager really looks (and acts now) like some mafia boss?

Money.
Amounts aren't 150 000 000 etc.? Like 150 000?
|
I also think that partially, oov wanted to get out of Boxer's shadow. KTF desparately needs a reliable 1v1 Terran other than washed up oldskool gamers Sync and TheMarine -_-;;..

i think XellOs should transfer to KTF

-.-a I'm pretty sure I'm correct (I might not be, but I can't find an error...
1,000won = $1... so 450,000,000,000won = $45,000,000
no?
|
It was 450,000,000 won, not 450,000,000,000. Huge difference.
|
it doesnt make sense that he would make two contracts. why did he not leave to ktf after the feb contract then? and what are the terms of the contract? someone needs to clear these issues up and clearly state the ramifications of such an agreement. what is the kor progaming reaction?
|
There is rumor that oov's father contracted with KTF without oov knowing about the contract, however, it is only a rumor so we will have to wait a little to find out more.
|
It looks like oov's father is same like ogogo's father.

You and everyone else thinking this is a fucking moron. Boxer and Oov are like brothers he wouldn't want to get ' out of his shadow '. Sorry but there's more respect between Boxer and Oov than you and some friend or something similar of that nature.
With that said, I think Oov is innocent and his father is to blame.

What people say to the media and what is really true can sometimes be complete opposites. Since you're not living in the SKT1 headquarters and you don't know oov or boxer personally, it's impossible to really know what's going on.

Wow gee fucking gee.
In every interview, in every VOD, in every encounter of Boxer and Oov there has been nothing but respect for each other. Oov even cried during EVER finals because he didn't want to see Boxer lose but he had such a desire to win at the same time. And if you don't think Boxer respects him then why do you think he took Oov under his wing and basically GAVE him the opportunity to be what he is today.
Again, you and everyone thinking that this is a respect issue is a fucking moron. In Korea respect is on a much larger scale than in the Western world. If Oov really wanted to leave KTF because he felt like he was being ' held down ' by Boxer [ which makes absolutely no sense seeing as how he is arguably the best player in the world ] then he would do it outright and not even make the contract with SKT1 in the first place.
Let me reiterate, as you don't seem to understand. Oov would lose all fans and respect from the progaming institution itself. Oov would lose seemingly his only close friends in progaming [ Boxer and SKT1 ] and who would want him on their team if he's a teamhopping noob who has no loyalty.
|
I love Koreans for the way they have such respect for their friends and elders. Most of the nicest people I have ever met are Koreans.
|
im reminded of this korean movie i saw, "friend." in one restaurant scene, this mob boss is disrespected by his childhood friend in front of his subordinates. the subordinates shoot a threatening look at the childhood friend. the mob boss catches it and gets mad at the subordinates. he teaches them, "friends can say anything they want to each other. otherwise they can't be called friends." the mob boss made them run the rest of the way as he dropped off his friend home.
in life, friends are the hardest to find. maybe oov and boxer share something similar.

Holy crap, some of you guys get pretty aggressive.
Notice how I said *maybe*? It was just a theory, there's no need for anyone to be calling anyone a "fucking moron."
I'm sorry if I don't watch enough SC-related VODs (except the games themselves) and don't know the personal relationships between characters that much. I made a theory that *would* seem plausible to anyone who wasn't that much aware of the relationship between boxer and oov (and for someone who just watches replays and VODs, it shouldn't be expected knowledge).
Yeah, to the first guy--thanks for correcting me. To the other guy--fuck you, asshole.

There are few to none SC-related VODs that aren't the games themselves. Also, you can't call yourself interested in progaming if you don't know the relationship between Boxer and Oov. Everyone pretty much knows that they are student-teacher and that he introduced him to the scene.

I'm interested in the results of games, tournaments and leagues. I don't really care about players' relationships that much. Didn't realize there were pre-requisites for being interested in progaming.
I had a *vague* idea about the Boxer-Oov relationship but didn't know it was that serious. Mostly it was from some comments the commentators said during the games... and from them it's hard to discern that Boxer and Oov were that close. I figured Boxer was just doing what he does as the Terran captain--i.e., teaching the rookies... didn't know it was anything special.
|
If I remember correctly, oov is the terran captain, and Boxer is the captain of the whole SKT1 team.
|
even if they are student-teacher, and great friends, binary's guess that oov wants to spread his wings is still very plausible. look at kobe and shaq. not saying they were teacher student, but kobe wanted shaq out so he can run the team despite winning three titles and another appearance.

So you've never read an Oov or Boxer interview that's been posted on this site in the last 6 months. Because pretty much the majority of them infer that they are good friends. Also if you don't care bout players relationships [ I.E. know close to nothing about it ] why do you speculate something and then get mad when someone who knows more about Boxer-Oov than you says it's extremely likely that it's wrong.

I had the impression that you spoke/read Korean. But I don't know for sure since you're apparently from Afghanistan now. If you aren't then ignore this, but if you can understand Korean that you must have extreme selective hearing.
By the way, Boxer/Kingdom/GoRush/Oov are all captains of the team.

He didn't know their relationship was that close knit. Period. What the hell is the big deal?
|
He's claiming his guess was plausible. I'm just showing him how it's not.
And like I said I had the impression he could speak/read Korean so I'm curious as to how he would have close to no inclination of their relationship.
|
I had the impression that you could read English...
I didn't get mad when someone corrected me. I got mad when someone called me a "fucking moron" for not knowing the relationship between two StarCraft players
Without knowing that my relationship was close-knit, it WAS a plausible guess... but then again, where the world did I claim this to begin with (it was shizuru)? Don't put words in my mouth. What you're trying to show is that I should've known enough about their relationship to not make that guess, it seems...to a guy who just cares about the results of games.
So what if I can read/speak Korean? Why would that mean I have "extremely selective hearing?" The commentators don't talk about it that much... and the only time they talked about it at all from the VODs I've seen are from the finals in the 1st EVER OSL. All they mentioned (or at least all I remember) was that Boxer trained Oov when he was new to the team.
I don't really read any of the articles or interviews posted here... I simply don't care that much. In any case, "infer that they are good friends" isn't really enough to assume that they wouldn't want to leave a team to become acknowledged as the best terran of another team. Just because you are "good friends" it doesn't mean that you can't be ambitious enough to want to surpass him and become the top terran.
You're curious eh? Despite the fact that I've already told you how...
|
oov isn't the cleverest of progamers y'know.. I'm sure there were outside forces involved but I do think to an extent oov wants out of the SKT1 hierachy. Sure Boxer did everything for him- he 'excavated' Oov as people say. But as everyone knows SKT1 was built on Boxer's fame and popularity and Oov's talent. He would feel that little bit of contempt, he's the only SKT1 member who won Starleagues last year and yet Boxer's the one who gets the payrise, extended contract and gets voted into Allstar league?. This 'respect' issue I understand, I'm Korean after all, but it becomes something trivial when one looks at the bigger picture i.e one's future career.

And as for Legionnaire being late; he wasn't. Atleast not for the match itself. He was late for the 'show-up-time' which is 30 minutes before the airing. Being 10 minutes late and still 20 minutes to go the manager of his opponent choose to enforce the MBC rules and had Legionnaire disqualified (without MBC actually wanting this they were left with no option as rules are rules).

It is a sport, it is played at a PROFESSIONAL level (thus, PRO-GAMERS), where people are paid to play it in front of spectators. Not very global, as it is exclusive to Korea, but that doesn't mean American Football isn't a sport either. The mental stamina involved in progaming rivals that of any other sports'. Snooker, darts and go are all played at professional level and enjoyed in a global scale. When considering sc at a professional level, yes it is a sport.

For some people, it ain't a sport unless you sweat from running.

which is why we have the term "E-sports"

When we say "e-Sport," is that just a subcategory within the broad concept of a "sport" or is it something different?

Hey. Dumbass.
If you hadn't responded to me calling you a fucking moron and getting all riled up over it then I wouldn't have to respond to your statement being plausible or not.

So by your definition half of the NFL can't be called pro players. Because they are obese by medical standards and could techinically play Football drunk. Tell me, can you play Starcraft drunk and win? No.
And you have no knowledge of Starcraft in Korea if you think I'm trying to reassure myself or something. I'm quite confident in myself kthx.
Starcraft is a recognized sport in Korea. Just because it's not international doesn't mean you need to bring your westernized ' It's-not-recognized-unless-America-does-it ' attitude to everything.
By the way, Boxer makes more than your mom.

Let's see...
You respond when someone responds to your insult, but you tell others not to get riled up when you sling insults at them?
Shut the fuck up you small eyed chink.

Are you seriously so narrow minded that you can dismiss competitive starcraft as trivial because it doesn't involve excessive physical exertion?

By physical, I think he means particularly actions that involve whole body movements and large muscle movement. Don't ask me what the difference is.

I had never said starcraft wasn't physical, but I responded to it above:

not very smart to throw out racist names on a forum heavily related to Koreans. imo, youre overreacting to a difference in opinions no better than school children.
anyway.
so anyone care to illuminate us on why oov would sign two contracts when he cant show that ktf is sponsoring him? five pages and not one page closer to the truth.

but those 5 pages are damn funny

Rofl? Nice summarization. You got made saying some people get too aggressive. Then I tell you it's the internet and I don't even know you so it shouldn't be personal. Then you say I'm a hypocrite for doing the same thing when in fact if you hadn't started any of this in the first place then there would be nothing to argue over since you are apparently wrong and are a failure at life.
Have a nice day knowing that you are a senseless moron calling another Korean a ' small eyed chink '
/uninstall life please.

wtf don't you guys read the whole thread before you respond
ack was the one that started it by calling him a fucking moron
and thats really fucking hypocritical especially with him complaining about people demeaning others
this thread is starting to suck now with random insults and noone is explaining WHY KTF PAID OOV *insert nazgul's post here*
|
maybe boxer and oov are lovers... hehehhe... joke2x
|
my 2 theories would be:
a) KTF just wanted to make sure that oov joins their team once his contract with SKT1 is over b) oov wasnt sure that SKT1 would keep him/make him a better offer than KTF would and just made sure he had options if one of those conditions would become true
