So this is the OSL, right? Should have put that instead of "Starleague" or at least mentioned it in the OP. When I read Starleague I had no idea which league is actually meant, I thought it might be Proleague at first, lol.

Starleague always refers to individual leagues and usually to the OSL.

No, starleague always refers to OSL, never to MSL. It's trademarked by OGN.

The SL in MSL stands for (MBCGame) Starcraft League.

Oh lol. I went 3 years without knowing that >_<.

OGN - Ongamenet StarLeague - OSL
MBCGame - MBCGame StarLeague - MSL

MSL - MBCGame Starcraft League.

It is? I was always thinking its StarLeague. Thanks for correction :p

Technically, osl is the only starleague. Msl is starcraft league. People often refer to both as starleagues though for simplicity's sake. If someone says a player has never won a star league, they likely mean the player has never won an osl OR msl.

That's weird because I've seen people refer to the leagues as "Individual leagues"

It's both, Tenhou. People are not drones that follow 1 supreme hive mind. When most people say "Starleague" or "SL" they usually are referring to the OSL and MSL combined. But there are also a lot of people who realize that this is technically incorrect, and only say "Individual Leagues".

That being said. the MSL is more prestigious than the OSL now-a-days. In my opinion of course. Unless you think random = better.

It's more so the Koreans that refer to it as individual leagues, whilst foreigners refer to them as starleagues.

I dont think so man.. I mean look at MSL: It has the best commentators, best show factor, rank based play offs to guarantee good semis & finals: and legendary Kim Chul Min also hosting finals gives it a real aura that OSL lacks. Because its a big deal, even at proleague matches when you see that MBC channel is showing game, you know you gonna get good rollercoaster and the casters are gonna go apeshit at stuff going on.
Aah thats the stuff..

A fair number of fans in Korea are annoyed with OGN at the moment.

@xarthasz MBC's caster are just more noisy than OGN caster when I listen to OGN casters I think they talk more deeply about the game rather than shouting over a zergling killing a drone. If only I understand korean...

Why did OGN delay the OSL anyways?

OSL was delayed for the MyStarleague thing (the open tournament). Was a waste having it take 3 months though seeing as how all the rookies that qualified went 0-2 anyway (it was useful as a scouting tool, but still shouldn't have delayed the OSL by so much imo).
I'm going to sleep, let me get some of that carpet.

exactly what the other guy above me said, we koreans prefer the osl commentators ( deeper, more entertaining, and not just AHHHHH KANG MINNNNNNN over and over), the finals stage is always grander, and has that certain aura the msl lacks when the winner wins that gold.

No I think MSL has better commentators than OSL, especially w/ Lee Seung "Wonjwa" (who was voted best commentator by the Korean community). However, if we add in OGN's ex-progamer commentators to the mix, then i think OGN has the better commentators, but those 3 don't ever cast for OSL anyways. I like watching MBCGame/MSL a lot more than OGN/OSL, but I do think OSL is more prestigious for a variety of reasons, like always having the better sponsors, overall more difficult to win, smaller group stages, etc etc.

Huh, for some reason I was always under the impression that only 1st and 2nd place got any money in the individual leagues. Always thought that was weird, and it wasn't even true, lol

In Korean culture? Pretty much. We westerners may not respect our elders but countries like Korea certainly do. Hyung, noona, oppa, bowing to your elders etc. etc.
