A thread I always wanted to make. In the ~2 days until Vods are up somewhere, many hidden and not so hidden traps are lurking. Feel free to add.
Youtube - read comments accidently - no Anti spoiler vod: only three vods added for a best of 5 - bad Anti spoiler vod, the "no way": 6 minute TvT - bad Anti spoiler vod. the "can't be unseen": PvT BO5 shows a Hatchery in the preview Pic for set 4 - bad Anti spoiler vod, the "I've seen you before": set 4 has the same preview Pic as set 3 - bad Anti spoiler vod, the "bad rating": set 5 has only a 3 star rating instead of 5 Stars (back when YT was a good site)
Teamliquid - Liquibet = death - Elo Peeks thread pops up - fanboy threads pop up - Random Pics thread contains loser's facepalm
ICQ - lol you see how JD roflstomped Kal lol
RL - Yo dude have you seen that? Flash lost to Hyuk, he's out man!!!
|
thread with a title revealing who won and asking for discussion ex: "[D] What could Flash have done to win?"
|
now a days, i feel like its actually quite hard to spoil yourself unless you actually try. TL's pretty good at closing any thread titles with blatant spoilers.
And a lot of people overlook the VOD tracker which usually has torrents up soon after the games. wfbrood also has vods posted shortly after the game.

small vod thread
all problems avoided
|
That's why you have to watch it live. Would never a VOD of a football match. Following an obscure sport (outside of Korea and TL) takes some dedication.
When I miss a game, I personally read the LR thread to try and grasp some of the emotions that went through the match. Then if it sounds any good, I'll watch it, not caring that I know who won.
For SC2: Fanclub thread visible on the sidebar.
Also, the allkill thread.
|
Yeah, don't use youtube to follow starcraft. Small VOD thread is a must for anti-spoiling

Accidentally figuring out how many sets there were in a match, and being able to deduce who wins a game based off that. (For example if you know there were 6 games, and its 3-2...)
You have to watch out for this on PLU especially.

all problems avoided At least the VOD/YT problems. Bad names for threads are generally close/renamed pretty quick, so as long as nobody IRL (chances are probably pretty low) and LQbet doesn't get you I don't find it too hard.

alffla's fantasy's gg timing thread anti-spoiled lolol
|
Lol whenever I open a live report thread of kt and theres like 60 pages of discussion it means flash has lost. I remember a year ago when KT played hite and Flash lost to effort and then the ace match to snow. There were literally over 80 pages in a LR thread for an ordinary proleague match. Hmmmm, I wonder what happened
|
Bad Anti spoiler vod: The map in the preview pic doesn't match with the map order of a set. Happened to me too many times.

I didn't mean to get Anti spoiler tipps but the small Vod can't be mentioned often enough, especially for our newer members. Yeah, it is not really hard but it still happens to me on a regular basis that I get spoilered from a yet unknown angle.
On February 23 2011 10:56 ]343[ wrote: alffla's fantasy's gg timing thread anti-spoiled lolol
lol :D My best Anti Spoiler was from my Youtube viewer days when Flash bunker rushed Fantasy (or 2 other big names) in game 5 and the TvT video was only like 4:30 minutes long.
|
A few more:
Youtube: -video icon shows burning terran structures (how flash losing to hyuk was spoiled for me) -for TBLS, the number of likes. More likes means TBLS raped, multiple dislikes means TBLS lost.
TL: -speed at which winner's interview was translated. If it's posted within 4 hours that means SKT/KT/Oz/Khan or TBLS won
|
I always end up spoiling it for myself. I'm like "i forget who even played two days ago!" and then go lurk the tourneys, end up in the thread themselves, and inevitably: "Well i'll just check the recommended games!" "but who's playing" "oh god"
T.T i suck so much at not spoiling myself!
|
I want to add -All Kill List thread pops up
+ Show Spoiler +]didn't really want to watch the SKT1 game but it was the last remaining from the last 2 days for me and no all kills till then... (still congrats fantasy!)
and with that guy uploading to own3d.tv it also spoiled for Oz vs hite + Show Spoiler +the first game being linked at that site is set7 -.-

lol, you have real life friends who talk about SC? lucky...

But I usually don't check for interviews immediately after matches, so that lets people get caught up with results a little.
|
when the "recomended games" section says something like "winner uses exelent harass, really entertaining" and then when you watch the game toss storm drop early.
|
haha. I think many of have experienced these spoiling moments when you least expect them.
Once, was a YT preview pic of the dude taking of his headphones in disgust, and the other looking nonchalantly forward.
And last round's Oz vs KT game, where I had to sleep early and missed the game. And after running back home the next day, my brother had an IM that said, "lol, they didn't even need Flash lolol"
....That made me so angry haha
|
The recommended games area in general is one giant spoiler(the ones with thread starter posting recommendations instead of a poll at least), it basically tells the plot of the game beforehand, thus cancelling the entire point of having recommendations
|
Watching live is really the only way to avoid all spoilers. Even with the Small VOD thread you have issues like seeing how long the match is, which is somewhat hard to avoid (although possible). Also, recommended games should just stick to polls IMO to avoid spoilers.

]343[ spoilers me -__-
But then again I've long stopped caring about results. It's all about the flow, man...
|
the number of times I have checked a players race stats to see how good they are against the current match up, (thats O.K, not spoilled yet) then look at thier most recent 10 matches and think oh O.K so now I know thier form and then go back to watching the game and realise that that last result was almost certainly the game I am watching. So stupid, but I don't know how many times I have done it now.
|
Actually, the biggest spoiler is when Flash is playing:
99% - he wins 1% - he loses and people start making threads, blogs and argue +100 pages of LR thread, especially since he often loses after stupid games, because his econ-oriented & perfect defense style is so risky.
|

I'm really really sorry. TT.TT I nned to work but going to fixing anti spoil vods this weekand. If I'm not working >.<

One time, I woke up too late to watch the Korea vs Argentina WC match. I was waiting for the replay to come up on espn360. Decided to play some BW while I was waiting. Then someone goes, "damn, can't believe Korea lost 4-1" I was lie FFFFFUUUU!!

The clear solution is just to watch the game live. ESPORTS takes priority over all.

I don't think I've ever had a single pro match (that I was interested in) spoiled. Maybe I'm just lucky. Or maybe I'm just smart and use the small VOD thread.

And don't forget sleep. "Sleep is for the weak" ! The only way you can be COMPLETELY sure NOT to be spoiled is to wake up at 5AM like me to watch games live, so that makes it 4AM in the UK.
But really, you've got to make the choice. One one hand, you have a nice cozy sleep-in until 12-13 Saturday morning, where you can wake up and feel a bit annoyed about not having watched the games. Then you usually end up getting on with your life.
OR YOU CAN WAKE UP AT 5 FUCKING A.M.! And have the most awesome feeling ever, seeing it get light outside staring at your computer scree, re-heated food on lap, watching 2 streams at once, and getting so carried away you end up playing on iCCup afterwards until like 14-15.
Whenever I think of anti-spoilers I think of GomTV Avratech Intell Classic Season 2, first proper league I really followed (like all the group stages and what-not), where throughout the season they were so awesome that they actually listened to all of us whining about getting spoileREd (no, not spoiled, spoilered) and they implemented extra VOD's for BO5 matches, among other things.
The problem was that if the first two VOD's had 20,000 views, and the third 453, you could tell. Also one of my favorite was a game supposed to be played on a jungle map (iirc Katrina 2.0) with the preview picture being in the wrong tileset (Medusa)/

Yeah, one more thing. From now on I'm going to put the Set number in the "description" and not in ze title.
Shinhan Bank Winners League 2011-02-14 STX SouL vs Air Force ACE Set # Map #### ####
Somthing like that =)

There are so many ways to spoil yourself that it's not even funny.
I download vods with Bitorrent and I had to set uTorrent not to display file sizes, "# of pieces#", "downloaded", "completed", "remaining" and "selected size", otherwise I start to get paranoid and try to figure out the number of sets through file sizes.
Oh, and I use VLC minimalist mode to hide the progress bar and if I am going to skip forward or backwards I put my hand over the screen so I can't see how long the match is.

Well the length of the game is sufficient enough to spoil me. Like for example if Shine or Kwanro is playing, if the length of the game is like 20+, then they lost.
|
Being a Flash fan and knowing that he's going to win anyways...:[[[[
But a Shine/Hyuk/Kwanro/Canata(nontvt) game lasting less than 25 minutes=lol ok i know.
|
Before Flash became so dominant he would always lose in some stupid way before 10 min so it was pretty much a spoiler back then to see a short game with Flash...
But yeah, there are many ways to get spoiled.
One has to avoid TL especially after an unexpected loss of some big player in bo5 or bo3 as then there are always blogs discussing a "winner of Jaedong/Flash./Bisu/Stork vs random chump" series...

I spoil my post in the hope that this thread doesn't turn into one of the many ways to spoil oneself...
+ Show Spoiler [MSL Finals] +Waiting for the vods of the MSL Finals to show up on the small vod thread, I'm on guard for days avoiding any threads where someone might carelessly make mention of the outcome. I come across a random post that says Hite Entus has a facebook page. Intrigued, I thoughtlessly click the link to see "congratulations Hydra, MSL Champ" as like the second status in the news feed T_T
|
Nevake RSS feed in proleague always spoils me because the vods have the names of the players in them T.T
|
The god damn ban list. So many times I look there for some laughs and get spoiled. My own fault totally but still frustrating heh
|
The liquibet always gets me. I will never learn -.-
|
Thats why i never browse TL before watching any missed games.Bookmark small vod thread and you should be safe.
|
TL is the best anti-spoiler site out there IMO, the majority of sites pretty much purposely spoil in the headline just to get more hits and then rss owns everyone from other sites.
|
- bookmark small vod thread - do not browse TL.net until you watch said game
this is what i usually do, especially during starleague finals which have a billion threads pop up after results are in
|
Maybe r1ch could hack the left panel so it doesn't show treads concerning recent games in the preview? Like, when creating a thread the user has to check a checkbox named "Spoiler" to prevent it from showing there. And all fanclub topics would have it, so they wouldn't show up there at all. It would still be shown normally when you open that subforum.
That would solve one of the problems, but it's not really elegant.
|
obvious: clicking on the "lineup" spoiler-tag in winners league already spoils the result...
|
Theoretical example:
There are 2 proleague matches on the same day at the same time. One is SKT vs KT. The other is Stars vs STX. If the thread for Stars vs STX has >50% of pages as SKT vs KT, it's very likely SKT vs KT ended in 4 or 5 games while Stars vs STX went to ace match.
|
At least BW seems to be spared from some of the social media integration, if you watch the GOM vods that have Jinro playing you can tell if he won by the number of Facebook likes the vod got.

are you telling me the entire country is filtered through GEMA before you can view content? This is an eye opener if it is, I was not aware of any first world country which screens their citizen's internet content.

Yeah, I'm really confused. This software can automatically detect when there's a celebration at the end a video and doesn't let you watch it for some reason? Or is there some dude who carefully watches every video and bans it in Germany? Or...what the fuck?

I think how it works is that Kespa plays music during these celebrations and their software automatically detects this music and assumes it is a copyright violation. But I don't know for sure. We can't watch any music in Germany on Youtube. It will just show a message that this is copyrighted and can't be watched in my country.

that doesn't answer my question though, does every citizen have gema installed on their computer or something? or is the entire web filtered through a gema headquarters first before you get access to content?

Really obvious:
When Protoss users/SKT or Khan fans get mass banned when Shine just played Stork or Bisu. You know Shine won. =.=
|
Wrong map tileset in set 5. For example, if set 5 was to be Destination, a map with a different tileset is shown.

Gema is the German performance rights organization. No one has their software on the PC. Unlike in every other country they can't agree with Youtube and other Video platforms on terms (with some sites they do though) so they filter these sites with their software and block copyright infringements.
They do it this in cooperation with Youtube/ the other video platforms. No one has their software on the PC.
Thus if I wanted to see set 6 of KTZ vs. Stars I would have to use a Proxy Server.

I find the Small Vod thread by writing small v in my browser, it will find the small vod thread on its own then. But I do that face too. When I dont want to know how long a game goes but still want to watch it full screen. then i micro around the youtube site with 90% closed eyes, forwarding the first bit of the length bar and then setting it to full screen without being able to decipher the game length.
