Hi guys.

I just thought it might be a good idea to put the information about the teams' performance in the Proleague into graphs and show you.

Here's some data: number of games won and lost, win and loss ratio by race in each team.

Teams are sorted by the current standings.

Last update: 17 November 2010. Click to see the large picture:

Bit hard to read, but great style and details. Jaedong Oz continues what it does best! While Jangbi still fails to deliver with 0-7.

I know, even doing this it was a bit straining. It could be that the names are sideways

I never realized MBC had such a limited lineup of players to send out.

Really interesting. I always love to see some nice statistics. My only minor gripe would be that the pie charts don't have any anti-aliasing, making them kinda ugly, though I suspect the fault lies with whatever package you are using to output the graphs (most don't support simple things like AA, probably because math nerds don't typically care about pretty pictures). If you can output at a higher resolution you could scale them down with a bilinear filter to get the AA anyway though. Just a tip.

Great work though, and I hope we get to see some updates in the future.

Cool chart, bigest surprises for me:

1. The "Depth" of STX zerg is seriously underpreforming

2. Turn + Brave are performing the biggest 2 man carry in the league (excluding Jaedong + perfectman because they have carried their team into 10th place.)

3. Jangbi

Thanks for putting it together. Khan tosses responsible for 56% of the team losses :o

Jangbi and hiya both slumping hard. Perfectman as Oz's #2 is lol.
I'm going to sleep, let me get some of that carpet.

whats the team balance mean?

It's the the number of wins by each race for each team.

ie. SKT1 wins are 50% Protoss, 36% Zerg, 14% Terran from their players.

No, it's not that. I think I put the team balance too close to wins by race chart. It's not about the races, it's about the players. Please see this thread for the team balance calculation.

Bisu 8-0
Turn 6-0
Princess 2-0
Trap 1-0

These 4 are undefeated thus far though only Bisu and Turn are notable.

You can see from the shallow slope of Woongjin's wins how deep a team they are!
You can see from the steep slope of Jaedong Oz how undeep a team they are!

I like the way you presented the information, especially the individual player win-loss record. Good stuff.

I still think the "team balance" statistic is kind of dubious though.

Hmm, it also makes it easy to see the breadth of players that are being sent out.

STX is sending out largest variety of players (10)...too bad 3 of them are winless, so it's not really helping. MBC with the least, sending out only 6 different players...only 2 of them with winning records, what a tragedy.

There are effectively only 6 players on the team. But yet they're level with KT and Wemade. Not a bad position.

Unfortunately a team with no wins whatsoever would qualify as a "deep" team this way, although it is just in deep trouble.

Is this the real balance of starcraft? That it lies in the maps? I mean last season Bisu was slumping pretty hard and here he goes 8-0?

Im pretty sure he hasnt been to thailand in a while lol. But it's a good graph mate, thanks.

Ok, so
From top-4 teams there are 3 toss oriented + Stars with strong zerg lineup (with Free and Really they are all races around actually).
P-teams followed by terran-oriented teams which are on 5, 6 and 7 places

Khan is full of slumping tosses so they on 8.
JaedongOZ and Ace are too specific and should be excluded from analyze.

Conclusion: Tosses are imba. Zergs doing fine. Flash and Turn - last terrans standing.

interesting stuff.

odd to note that fox looks the most balanced in terms of wins by race, when you'd tend to think that they'd be somewhat terran favoured, simply because they have so many of them. pure and shine/roro stepping up i guess.

no prizes for guessing which team has the highest percentage of wins by a given race. lol jaedongoz

poor jangbi

Nice visual, helped me catch up a bit in PL results and also see how exactly teams are doing.

Thanks!

Updated the graphs with the results of the whole round, removed dubious team balance ratings.

To mods: please change the title of my topic to "Team Graphs after the First Round [Updated]". Thank you.

On the plus side, he should be really cheap for FPL, so if you truly have faith, you have a chance to make out like a bandit.

Also: JD is 9-3 for round 1, not 9-2.

I came up with another sexy feature to analyze the strength of different races inside the teams. I hope to implement it soon.

There's some other issues, your numbers don't add up. Oz is 22-33 (for a -11 overall). You somehow have 27-28. You do have the correct W-L per player now (after the JD fix), your totals are just off.

You can always double check here: http://www.e-sports.or.kr/static/proleague.kea?m_code=static_11

Thanks so much for this! Its awesome

You can really see why woojing stars is doing so well, with a pretty deep lineup of solid players, even when one or two of them looses, the other ones can bring it them back in the game and win the match. Recipe for success.

I guess this is also true for MBCHero and WeMade Fox... But i don't like them as much hahah.

KT not doing so well!! :O :O :O

Oz.... dammit.

I usually get Bisu and SKT blind in FPL and that didn't work out well for me last season.

Pity FPL didn't start on R1....

Cool charts! Although I know SKT's streak won't continue forever, it still warms my heart to see those nice bars. Soo's rise was certainly a surprise. Same goes for KT's performance.

lol, skt tosses went for a stunning combined 19-4 this round. oO

one thing to note though is how thin the balance in bo7 often times is.... every 2-4 loss of kt or oz could have been a win for them if only one game went otherwise, so they reach the ace where they can send their monster player.

but i love how the oh-so-praised depth of kt is crumbling .... i still remember around the time of the pl finals that all the kt fans were telling us skt fans things along the lines of "our non-star players are much better and more solid than yours, our protoss lineup is stronger than urs."

ya, sure.... 19-4 vs 7-11.
i also like how flash went for a fantastic 9-1 record this round and still his team is in 8th place.... basically in 5 out of 9 games, he won his game but his teammates couldnt win 2 out of 5 games...

Excellent graphs/charts. Amazing how Turn is doing for Khan. Hope you do something like this for round two too!
Look how far Jangbi and Hiya have fallen.

Now that we have a good solid grasp of the players and where they are currently TL is going to start FPL for Round 2 right? ^^ I mean Liquibet is making me stay awake and watch all these games to see how I do but FPL makes everything even more crazier

Too bad Bisu is going to cost a crap load of points though ...

KTFlash and JaedongOZ

I have no doubt that KT will turn it around, but OZ will likely have a horrible record until winner's league where they can snatch a few wins.

There isn't. Everyone else outside of these 6 players are either recent draft picks or long-time practice partners. Saint is a good teacher and he's well-liked in the team so it's not bad. He's capable of much better I think but most players don't perform well once they become captain.

Edit:
Thanks for the new graph, really cool

To sum up the obvious? For FPL?

(Previous year's stats include Proleague + playoffs, Winner's League + playoffs. No Dream League.)

Hot: The top of the pack.
(P)Bisu: 10-0 (1-0 Ace). (09-10: 30-23.)
(T)Flash: 9-1 (0-1 Ace). (09-10: 61-16.)
(Z)Jaedong: 9-3 (1-2 Ace). (09-10: 52-21.)
(Z)ZerO: 8-3 (2-0 Ace). (09-10: 40-28.)
Honorable Mention: (T)Sea 7-3 (2-0 Ace). (09-10: 34-21.)

Should be better: Good players with underwhelming numbers.
(P)Stork: 4-5 (1-0 Ace). (09-10: 36-21.)
(T)Leta: 4-4 (09-10: 44-27.)
(T)Light: 3-7 (0-1 Ace). (09-10: 49-32.)
(Z)Calm: 2-4 (09-10: 33-27.)
Dis-honorable Mention: (P)Stats: 5-5 (09-10: 20-11.)

Up-and-coming: Guys who've become reasonably scary within a year or so of their A-team debut.
(T)TurN: 7-0 (09-10: 1-5.)
(P)Brave: 5-1 (09-10: 4-4.)
(Z)n.Die_soO: 6-2 (09-10: 10-15.)
(Z)Neo.G_Soulkey: 7-3 (0-1 Ace.) (09-10: 15-11.)
(P)Snow: 6-3 (09-10: 22-15.)
Honorable Mention: (P)Tyson: 5-5 (1-0 Ace.) (09-10: 13-10.)

Stopped sucking: No longer big losers! Plus: new ACE player syndrome?
(T)Really: 6-3 (09-10: 37-32. R4, 5: 9-15.)
(P)Jaehoon: 6-3 (09-10: 10-17.)
(Z)ggaemo: 5-4 (09-10: 2-6.)
(P)PerfectMan: 4-4 (09-10: 3-15.)
Honorable Mention: (T)firebathero: 3-3 (09-10: 14-22.)

Why?: Why do you keep getting sent out? And then losing? Team out of players, or slumping.
(P)JangBi: 0-7 (09-10: 25-23.)
(Z)Saint: 2-6 (09-10: 6-6.)
(T)HiyA: 2-7 (09-10: 37-26.)
(P)Violet: 1-5 (09-10: 22-19.)
(T)RuBy: 1-5 (09-10: 21-36.)
(Z)Modesty: 0-4 (09-10: 11-11.)
(P)Tempest: 0-4 (09-10: 7-4.)
(T)Lomo: 0-4 (09-10: 8-17.)
(P)Sky[kaL]: 0-4 (09-10: 0-1.)
Dis-honorable Mention: (P)Rock 0-3 (09-10: 0-2.)

Edit: M18M was originally going to be on "stopped sucking," but he had a better record last year than this year (4-2)!

Ace Matches:
(P)BeSt > (T)Flash
(T)Sea > (P)JangBi

Ideally both, but otherwise just the current round. It's generally more useful to see current stats to see how players are trending.
