They will also get a Starcraft van, with 11 seats.

damn, kinda kewl if you think about it, each time there is a #1 player and he stays #1 for awhile and wins certain events like grrrr, boxer, nada did, they get bigger salarys each time.
like 550,000 is a lot ;o
gives people drive to keep playing, hi Rek

About this contract..
is this $550 000 for nada alone and more money for SG? Or is it like T1's 1.7 million contract for the whole team?
is it for 1 year or over 3 like T1 again.
|
Thats alot of money are u sure u got that right? if so damn!

NO FUCKING WAY. Korea can go to hell if they're paying someone that much to play a computer game. Seriously, thats insane. How much profit could they really gain from Nada wearing a frickin space suit with their logo on it? Not enough to justify spending such money.

Wtf, where do you live? That's right, in a country where you can get paid 100 times more than that for playing basketball. I'd freaking play basketball for 50,000 a year, much less 20 million
|
How bout 90 million dollars for wearing a nike basketball shoe while you play on the court? What was that kids name? He had just graduated high school too.
Nada is actually getting ripped here. As someone already noted, the free advertising is abominous. Or should i say, 500,000 dollar advertising, for 3 years. Small companies spend that much money per month in advertising their stupid products. Nada should stand up and demand millions, what company is gonna dare cancel him and throw him off the playcharts? The koreans are more lustful of their stars than we are, theyll immediately hate whomever strikes against him.
Anyhow, what exactly do progamers do for a future? If they play 8 hours a day, do they even have an education? I mean, 500k aint gonna last you the rest of your life. Once its all over, or you just get tired of it, then what? Youre fuckin 28 years old with no use for the modern world.

demand millions? Koreans dont act and think like americans do NoobSaibot. In korea they are much more humble than that.
This is the best advertising Korean companies can ever dream of. 500 000$ is lunch money compared to the amount of money they actually spend on advertising. Its all about advertising. Sooner or later I wouldnt be surprised if the amount in the future goes up to 1 million bucks.

Good for Nada, but I think he should make more considering what American sports stars make

south koreans without an education? never heard of it -_-;; besides, there are plenty of people with 8 hour work days that still attend school

Very cool. I for one hope to see games continue their rise as a real sport. Unfortunately in our day and age that's best gauged by how seriously sponsors take gaming, and this is a good sign.

nada doesnt seem like the type of person to demand high salaries (millions). too humble, and passive in my opinion. i think sg is taking advantage of the situation, and ripping him off. but then again, you have to understand that pro gamers are never #1 for long. slumps happen, you can break a finger, etc. everything taken in perspective, its a good sign for the e-gaming world, and a good move for sg, although its probably not the most "fair" contract for a player such as nada

hes humble? Wtf, hes getting paid half a mil for playing a video game, that aint humble, as evident by everyones overreaction at the payout. Its just a damn act. My only guess is korea just isnt as financially rich as america, so 500k there is like 10 million here. And no you cant really live off 500k. I believe its estimated even a minimum wage worker has earned 1 million dollars by the time theyre 70 or something. These advertisers are manipulating the gamers lives, masquerading them around in this artificial life of glamour that cant last forever. In hollywood its fine, one movie can land you several million dollars and then you really ARE set for life. These guys are fucked in korea though. Like a prisoner getting a taste of the real world after 40 years, they have no skills or job assets to offer to the city in which they live. And while sure its their choice, theyre too young to think about it objectively. Look at BW history, nobody has really been all that faithful to the stars, everyone just loves to bash them when they start to slip by 10apm "hes all washed up now, good for nothin, turn your attention to the new guy"/.

Yeah, 500k definitely couldn't last forever =/. Especially with interest so fucking low. Of course 500k is a hefty sum... so if he was a smart investor and invested it in a growing company or something he could easily be set for life, than again he could also be pretty screwed if he messed it up . 500k is not by any means a large sum if you're trying to live off it.

Hmm.
You might be partially right but I believe that, when Nadas career or the popularity of BW starts to fade, he can always use the earned money to enroll to a private school or pursuade other gaming related careers like Garimto did. Though, with his wimpy voice and outstanding charisma I highly doubt it would come out as a success. Hmm... playing 8h per day doesn't get you far in real life or does it?
I've always had problems with the ethical side of progaming. Is it a ethical way of earning your money? Although the games and fanbase products are built in highly developed countries with educated and paid people, the product itself isn't a necessity in this world... maybe I should stop here.

Think of ANY job that pays more than pro-gaming, and think to yourself, are THEY ethical? In much the same way, we don't need movies, music, sports etc.
|
the ethics lay not in what the employee is doing, but in the employer. Advertisers have a future, progamers do not. They know damn good and well that the funfactor of playing a video game day in day out, on tv, with cameras and psuedo-luxery (500K != mansion), and use that to their advantage to keep these young guys hooked. I wouldnt complain at all if they payed them MORE money, cuz then when BW dies, and it eventually will, theyll have a shot at something else they can enjoy to do in life. The way it is now, and what i consider unethical, is this string-along with tantalizing sums of money to keep players at their beconning, milk them for all theyre worth, then dump em as soon as they are no longer profitable. Considering the age group that this is affecting, i dont think guys like nada or boxer have the smarts to make it in life when they waste this crucial time of learning playing video games all day. Aside from their fame status, nobody is gonna hire a 25 year old with no work experience or education.

In the US, you need around a million to earn enough off of investments to live modestly. Low-risk investments (bonds, mutual funds, etc.) have historically earned around 6% for their owners.
6% of a million is 60,000 a year. More than enough to live modestly for most people, in most areas.
It's very possible to live off of 550k in South Korea. I don't know enough to say it's a fact, but through good investing and the lower cost of living in SK, Nada should be fine if he never earned another penny. He will earn more though. Take a look at Boxer and Yellow, both have started businesses with their wealth and are set for life. It's silly to think Nada would just sit on his money instead of using it and his fame to make more.

Now maybe I'm just a rich white boy, but I can't see myself raising a family and living on just 60k a year. Living by myself, sure, 60k a year is more than enough. However, once a wife and kids come into the picture that money starts disappearing fast.
With the way inflation is these days, you can no longer retire after winning a million dollars in the lottery. Instead, invest it like that and make your 60,000 a year and then continue to work your job so that you get a combined salary (between you and your wife) of about 180-200k. That would allow you to have much more fun with your money.

south korea not america yes in america it is not enough due to our sucky economy right now blah blah lets not go into it but we do have more money then SK thats why korea is cheaper to live and is highly possible to live on 60k a year

$500.000 can last you all your life in Korea, considering that you live the way most Koreans do. A small house (apartment that is, cheap food, cheep liquor, etc.
but that's not very realistic for him. though definitely possible.
