As a lifeguard, I've "saved" drowning people with a reaching pole before and each time it only took 5-10 seconds to simply grab the pole and pull someone in. It's 100 times less epic than jumping in and carrying someone, but it's a lot more effective and safe. Flash and Kal both could have been in trouble if Kal had panicked a bit more. edit: my point is: don't try to jump in and save your friends if you can just throw/reach with something. It seems like common sense, but people tend to panic in these situations. But Flash saving Kal like that did make for a better story ![]()

its not that the ref couldn't swim, it was just kal freakin' out and i think that this was in a hotel? in america not korea afaik as for all the comments about korean children not knowing how to swim, many of the middle -> upper class children do know (as their parents can easily afford sending them to YMCAs and public swimming things etc.) just as less poor kids know how to, just like how it is in the states really. this isn't the end-all determiner but it seems to be true to some extent.

So I just walked along the surface and got to lower waters in no time. The life guards didn't even notice. I guess Kal must have panicked instead of using common sense. It's a little hard to use common sense and not panic when you're drowning. Also I feel like the fear of water increases over time if you never learn how to swim, so while 7 year old you might have walked out like a boss, Kal was probably extremely scared.

Is that what you are trying to say? Ok, move on.

At this time, Flash, who was swimming near by, swam towards Kal. Flash, who had learned to swim since a young age, told Kal to hold on to him, and then swam both of them back to the shore, and successfully rescued Kal But no one mentions Flash being able to talk to Kal when he is underwater...was that assumed?
