With Flash and Jaedong set to go in the MSL final for the third time in a row I've put together a pretty long preview for the series which reviews and recaps the entire history of their rivalry.
Contains:
-Relevant statistics/records -Recaps of every bracket play series the two have played in individual competition -Why the LeeSsang Rok is a better rivalry than the Lim-Jin Rok ( BoxeR vs. YellOw) -How the Flash vs. Jaedong rivalry has evolved over the years as the 'Little Monster' vs. the 'Legend killer' became the 'Ultimate Weapon' vs. the 'Tyrant'. -VOD links for every map in their playoff bracket matches
Soak in the history of the best rivalry in competitive South Korean StarCraft history and get yourself ready for the next chapter tomorrow morning (if you're not South Korean)
Read the full preview here: The call of the LeeSsang Rok!.
Thanks a lot to all of the resources I used to put this together, it may only last a day in terms of ultimate relevance but it was a work of passion.

Nicely done. Pretty long article. That's a good read. Thank you.

Nice article so far. I think that usurping the LimJinRok is a bit much, but making a new era of rivalry is more appropriate. For sure this is the greatest modern rivalry, but saying that it is more epic than LimJin is somewhat ignorant of the state of things back when they were both huge. There is a reason why Yellow and Boxer play each other in all-stars matches and they draw so much attention, in a time when neither can live up to the skills of Flash and Jaedong. It's a new era, and thus a new rivalry, not a better one.

HYPE HYPE I am so happy they are going to rematch after their last little Finals encounter was disrupted. GO FLASH!
|
Thanks for writing this, it got me pumped for tonight's MSL final!

Urgh, I can't wait for these games. I don't know how I'll cope though....during Flash's match against Leta today my teeth were clacking from nerves the whole way through, and that was just the R08 >___<

In their last 17 meetings Flash has likewise won 10 maps for an identical 58.82%. [...] Take the WCG finals out of the picture for a moment as a thought experiment, for the reasons listed before, and Flash has won 10 of the last 15 for 66.66%.
WCG finals was three sets, so if you take them out Flash has won 9 out of the last 14 for 64%
He has twice as many golds as Jaedong in 2010 and two silvers to Jaedong's zero.
Jaedong has a silver from losing to Flash D:
I'm just nitpicking though hehe. Nice article

This is an amazing article. I'm pretty hyped for this final! Gotta love the LeeSsang Rok

whoa, that's fucking comprehensive :D

Nice writeup, but BoxeR/YellOw will always top it for me.
|
heh boxer vs yellow is still the best rivalry i think they've played twice as many games as flash and jaedong
|
I thought jd had more gold. And that he's been around longer.
|
great read! GO LEE JAEDONG.
|
|
This turned into a Jaedong positive though as he won the fourth, displaying classic Jaedong anger face demolition and truly wreaking Tyrant-esque terror as he infested two of Light's command centers to really show what happens when you fuck with Jaedong and piss him off.
I watched these games yesterday... LOLed so hard when I saw that XD

Nice write-up!
Fianlly the hype started

Great and timely write-up!
Nicely done ^_^

Thanks for the feedback, this is the first proper SC1 article I've written but I would hope not the last as I continue to learn more about this incredible game.
When there's a big MMA match the next day I'm the kind of guy who spends the day before it lounging and watching/rewatching all the fights of each guy, reading everything I can and thinking about how they'll match up. It's my aim people could take a similar route thanks to this piece and get their head in the perfect spot by soaking up all the great matches these two have played and building up a bank of cool storylines to sustain them in the final. For anyone who knew everything in the piece perhaps they got a gentle reminder of a few points which were fading
It can take a lot of work, as I learned here ^^, but hype doesn't always have to have a fake overenthusiastic element to it. If the matchup is genuinely interesting enough you can find the storylines to pump yourself up even further for a legendary matchup
There is really no matchup in the entire world of Esports which electrifies me like this one, I literally have no idea what will happen regardless of form or map when these two fight. They're the two players who it feels like could do anything against anyone and overcome any odds. I've watched a lot of other Esports matches but this is the only one for which I'll wake up at any time any day to watch live if there are streams :D

amazing read, great work! thanks

great article, very indepth and well written

Another read to have before the LeeSsang Rok and great title to have visible in the BW General section if you ask me.
(edit: This is an old post, the article is about a final that underwent August, 2010, but still has some content there to get a feel of the LeeSSang Rok)

Other then Flash's medal count being wrong by a lot (he has six golds 3 OSLs, 3 MSLs) this was a nice read. Thanks for the continued love Thorin.

The write-up was made before the Bigfile MSL (before Flash's 2nd MSL gold and 3rd OSL gold). At that time Flash had only 2 OSL wins (2007 Bacchus, 2009 EVER) and his most recent MSL win at Hana Daetoo.

Boxer vs Yellow was never this competitive. Boxer always won, at least with Flash vs Jaedong there's some back and forth
