Ongamenet's Commentator Kangmin (Nal_ra) is entering the military.
Commentator Kangmin announced on the episode of Oldboy that aired on the 28th that he willl be entering the military on June 17th. After receiving his notice for military duty, his physical grading was considered grade 4. He was set to serve public interest duty and he will be entering ChoongNam NongSan Training Facility and upon finishing the basic military training, he will be serving his public interest duty.
Following this, this upcoming June 11th Starleague preliminaries will be his last contest before military service, but he will commentate for proleagues right up to his entrance date.
Facing military service, Kangmin said "The notice came as a surprise and he has to enter the military immediately", and "I wanted to finish commentating the Proleague 09-10 season and wanted to show an amazing set of matches on Starleague Preliminaries but it turned out disappointing like this", and showed strong resolve, saying "I will do my best so that I can play in the Starleague preliminaries without regrets"

Every male in Korea serves in the military unless they are physically incapable (and sometimes they just get desk positions otherwise)

My guess is that the Korean military are calling in lots of people right now with the threat of a new korean war. This could also lead to them not putting him in ACE, the officers won't bother with the paperwork since they have more important shit to care about.

This army thing really messes up with your career plans. Real productivity issue here imo. By the way, when we had mandatory conscription in Romania, we had shorter terms for university graduates. What about Korea? How's Kang Min's status in this regard? I heard progamers "attend" some kind of uni to dodge early conscription.
ACE could use him, the team is just a team of progamers in the military, they are not really airforce personnel iirc. They are just random grunts. So it does not matter what glasses he wears. Also, since ACE also has ggaemo now, they would be a top 3 team in proleague with Kang Min as well.

Nal_Ra is 28 (29) years old, isn't that kinda late to go into military? If you're older than 24 years, you are no longer obligated to serve in the military in Sweden.

20/70 is pretty low, I've been wearing glasses fulltime since I was 4 and I've got better vision than that. Barely, but still.

The Air Force isn't just a group of pilots, but it is mixed with other positions like officer, and like mentioned, a desk job. They'll go through basic training no doubt, but no where as much as say being in infantry division. Just because you enlist in the military, it doesn't mean you'll be a grunt since they'll put you where it is needed and fits your ability.

That's pretty tight, but doesn't disqualify everyone. I wear savagely strong glasses (20/500 uncorrected), but 20/200 is pretty poor, even. It means that something someone with 20/20 can read at a hundred feet you can read at only ten. It corresponds to a dioptre of about -2.00. Still, the Air Force in any country has more people than just pilots and CSOs - from logistics to mechanics, scrubs, whatever. Think of the entire operation and there's a lot more than just guys who fly and guys who read radars. I can't imagine Nal_rA not joining ACE. Someone has to make Yellow's life miserable, lol.
As an aside - think about it, if bad eyesight is no good for pilots, wtf are you going to give a blind man a gun for? By that logic he wouldn't be able to serve in any branch of the military, really.

I always thought Nal_rA was exempt from service, what a shame to lose a rising commentator.
To think if he doesn't join ACE, the upcoming OSL preliminaries will be our last chance to see the him in action, Nal_rA's final breath of life as a progamer. And should he succeed in passing it is still a bittersweet victory in that he won't be able to play in the group stages.

Extra Info: The reason why Nal_Ra has a poor vision and nose problems is because prior to being a progamer, he used to work at a glass manufacture factory. That's why his eyes are messed up and he has sinus problems. Also, he can't join Ace because he had lasik eye surgery. He still has to wear glasses even after having lasik surgery, that is how bad his eye sight is.

I really like Nal_rA's commentating and recently his return to practicing. Old Boy has been a wonderful show that communicates growth in the eSports community.

I really do wonder what he'll do with that Grade 4 though...the searches say that they are usually just in "public services (for example, at underground train stations, city halls, etc."...

I'm sure most of ACE aren't pilots. An air force lives on more than pilots alone.

When we are at it Boxer also had glasses guess hes using those tiny eye like things you put onto eyeball now. Also after watching OldBoy ep12 wasnt he saying something like his military service is only for 4 weeks i.e he will end at 15 June? (Which is today btw  )

Basic training is like 4 weeks long so his is over soon, after that he'll still be in service for like a year

Nal_Ra is NOT going to the army...
There are two types in Korea.
1. Basic training -> go to the army
2. Basic training -> work as 'gong ik' officer.
gong ik officer does not go to the army because when they get their physical tested, it was decided as low level (as in, can't perform properly in the army)
this includes if the person had an accident and totally ruined their calf muscle, has terrible eye sight, some serious other issues and etc.
As a gong ik officer, you get to work from home.. but you can't do any public works.
Thats why so many korean male celebs try to go as Gong ik officer with puny reasons.

Well I remember him saying in the episode that after basic training he was gonna go live with his mom again..so I guess so.. But he is still working for the military.
