[MSL] Jaedong, "I look forward to the rest of the matches"
"Midas is definitely on point"

The Tyrant Jaedong (Hwaseung Oz) leads the set with 1 win after a not-so-easy game. On April 29th, Jaedong won his first match against Midas (Wemade Fox) in the 2010 Hana Daetoo MSL Ro8 to move one step closer to the semifinals. The following is a brief Q&A with Jaedong.

- How does it feel after winning?
▲ I feel good after playing that game. I am really happy. I had alot of fun preparing for a ZvT Bo5. I prepared so hard that I couldn't wait until the match started. Since there is some time until the next game, I also want to do well in PL while preparing for our confrontation. I think it will be less stressful now that I have a 1:0 lead.

- Midas' gameplay was impressive.
▲ Honestly if the game dragged on the way it was, I think I would have won. But his game was definitely on point. He has alot of experience, and his tech switches are flexible and strong at the same time. Even when I was attacking him, I kept thinking that if I let my guard down a bit I would lose the momentum. I tried my best to prevent him from acquiring a metal ball by fighting him all across the map. Eventually my style wore away at his army and won the game.

- Was there a point when you just wanted to finish off the game?
▲ I practiced alot but Terrans these days just don't die. I thought to myself before the game to go on the offensive early on and if it didn't work I would go to a long management game. He definitely took his expos at the right times, and was flexible with his tech switches, which made the game alot harder.

- Where was the climax of the game?
▲ Breaking through his defenses at 6 was crucial. With the expo at 6 gone, my attack route expanded alot. If you leave [terran] to take 6, you can't move out easily. Because 6 is easy to defend for terran, he only had to defend 1. But I was able to take 6 from him, and the game went alot easier from then.

- The next games are highly anticipated.
▲ I am also excited for those games. Midas is not an easy opponent. I keep telling that to myself as I practice. I kept telling myself when preparing for this game, and prepared for everything he could possibly throw at me. As a result, I was able to react accordingly. If I continue to practice with this mindset, I think I can move on.

- It's a little bit early, but I think you can expect a Zerg opponent in the semis, and possibly hope for another victory in the finals.
▲ I am aiming to get to the finals right now. I am also looking to win it once I get to the finals. No matter who moves up, I will meet a zerg opponent in the semis. As a result I am confident. However it's a little too early to say those things after just one victory in the Ro8. As of now I think I need to show less talk and more walk in my remaining matches.

- Any last words you want to say.
▲ I didn't have a good idea of Midas' play style, so I had a hard time preparing. I thank the terrans on our team. Special thanks to Dolphin. Also thanks to Lomo who helped me a little bit. He played some crucial games with me during practice. I was also not expecting Hiya to win today(Laughs). It's because free's PvT is so good. But after watching today's game, I thought we might meet in the finals. He played so well. If we move up to the semis together, it's very good news to the team. I hope we prepare hard and get good results from not only this MSL but also in the PL. If Hiya could rid of Flash in the semis, that would be awesome, but I'm not expecting it(Laughts).

[MSL]Calm, "I could even give him psychological damage"
"In a ZvZ Bo5, winning the first match puts you in a very good position"

'Cerebral' Calm (STX) won with a strategy utilizing a hidden expansion. On April 29th, Calm won his first match against Great (Samsung Khan) in the 2010 Hana Daetoo MSL Ro8 to move one step closer to the semifinals. The following is a brief Q&A with Calm.

- How do you feel after your first victory in the Ro8?
▲ The first set is very important. I am very happy as a result.

- Your strategy was excellent today.
▲ I wanted to throw in something new for the first game. I had always wanted to use it.

- It was very surprising.
▲ I wanted to find a strategy that would throw off my opponent. If I win with these kinds of strategies I could even give him psychological damage.

- Did you think it was going to work.
▲ I predicted his build. His build stayed relatively close to what I had expected.

- You are good at BoX ZvZ's.
▲ I am also optimistic. However I won't think too much ahead and try to focus on the Ro8 for now.

- Does winning the first give you that much of an advantage?
▲ The mental stress put on the players cannot be expressed in words. ZvZ ends with one decisive move, so after taking the first set, the rest of the matches start looking more favorable. About 60~70% of the momentum follows the winner of the first set.

- Today's main concept seems to be mindgames?
▲ To be exact mindgames with potential psychological damage. The rest of the matches now depend on how I prepare for them. I think I need to carefully prepare my builds. With today's victory, I can now direct how the games will go. The rest of the matches I will do what I want.

- Any last words.
▲ Cheer for me in the next match too. I thank my teammates who helped me.

Hiya!

How do you feel about winning the first set?
Luckily I had a lot of practice time. I experienced something when I played Violet hyung last week in the proleague.

What did you feel?
I think I could have won that last game too if I had gone for a management game while splitting the map in half. Unfortunately, I lost while playing my old style. I definitely learned a lot that game.

You concentrated hard on defense.
The concept was to defend. I made lots of vessels and focused on defence. As a result, I relied on scans to detect his carrier timing.

Is your play style changing because of your desire to win in the individual leagues?
It's actually more because I had a lot of time. With lots of opportunity to practice, I was able to invest lots of time and master this kind of play. I want to become more unpredictable and to do that I need to have a variety of play styles. For sure it's a lot harder than focusing on one strategy, but I'll work hard from now on to improve that.

How are you going to prepare for the remaining sets?
This is my first time in a bo5 like this. It's still a bit weird to me, and I have two games to prepare for in the Proleague. I really don't prepare builds when practicing. I think if I practice like how I have before, I may be able to win.

Are you confident about the remaining sets?
I'm kinda close with Free hyung. Normally I'm pretty busy that I can't practice with him and plus I usually don't practice with other teams. Even just before the first set, we talked.in the waiting room. But a match is a match. I hope to have fun games in the next sets.

Anything you want to add?
Our team's proleague standings aren't so good. I hope we can pull it up. Because my ro16 and ro8 opponents were all protosses, my protoss teammates helped me a lot. I want to show with my TvP that Oz protosses aren't weak.

How do you feel about beating FLASH?
I'm glad that I won the first set, but I feel like I still have a long way to go. Because he's the best player, playing against him is very exciting.

What kind of strategy did you prepare today?
I wanted to do a FE, then use wraiths and transition into a management game. But Flash scouted my proxy rax very fast so I didn't feel like I started very well.

You beat Baby in a long management game too in the Ro16
I positioned really bad and my situation kinda sucked. Somehow it turned to a BC fight and I had experience of playing with Baby before so I thought I could win.

Your late-game is very good. Do you prefer playing longer games?
I don't prefer it, but my hands don't warm up very well. I think they become more and more warmed up as the game goes on.

Your 7 expo was destroyed. Wasn't it dangerous?
I intentionally threw 7 away. While throwing 7, I planned to attack his production facilities with BCs. If I had tried to defend 7, I probably would have lost. I thought it was the only chance to win for me.

How do you feel about the split Bo5s?
Splitting Bo5s lets me understand the map better and practice more so I think it's good. Since Flash is so busy, I think I had more time to practice.

How are you going to prepare for the remaining sets?
My goal is to go 2:2 to play a 5-match Bo5. I want to play Flash a lot. Honestly I came today expecting to have more of a learning game. I'm glad that I won.

Did your team help you?
They let me practice for the Individual leagues and cheered me to do well today.

Anything else?
I want to thank my teammates so much. We lost to CJ yesterday. I played in the last set, and I want to apologize to my coach for the disappointment.

Jaedong:
If Hiya could rid of Flash in the semis, that would be awesome, but I'm not expecting it(Laughts).

What about MVP? Jaedong is too BM.

Jaedong vs Midas was an incredible game. I didn't know who was going to win up until the very end. I still feel that flash would've won that game if he was playing instead of midas.

Hiya's TvZ is not nearly as good as ForGG's. ForGG just randomly rolls out with like twice the number of units you'd expect him to have at that time and just rolls you.

Op, if you don't mind, I did the last two

Hiya
+ Show Spoiler +

I love how MVP after beating Flash in a game is just like “Oh, yeah. I feel good about it.” Which is like a total under-reaction when taken at face value.

But I understand why he isn’t that excited about it. He still has to win a few games against the best player in the world. So it’ll be no easy feat.

Thanks for the interviews.

Probably because it's one game in a Bo5.

It's like waking a sleeping giant I think.

MVP had to claw with all his might to get that one win out of Flash...something I don't think he can keep up for 2 games in a row...much less if Flash wins one and it goes to more games.

Actually Flash will be even less prepared next week since then bo5s in OSL start and KT also plays two games next week, against strong P users so they'll need Flash.

Flash really needed yesterday's win. (Not saying he won't win the bo5, but everything is against Flash right now)

HiyA fighting for his Protoss friends? (Say what you want about how bad they play and their results 'n all that. But once I read that, I got curious if there is more we could se from Hwaseungs protoss players (and really, take my word for the fanboy~esque crap it is. I'm just hoping for a brighter future for Hwaseung.) (parenthesis in parenthesis ftw!))

Splitting Bo5s lets me understand the map better and practice more so I think it's good. Since Flash is so busy, I think I had more time to practice.

That's right MVP, next time Flash will be better prepared and you will get knocked out of the MSL. I have to give credit to MVP though, he played great.

Actually Flash will be even less prepared next week since then bo5s in OSL start and KT also plays two games next week, against strong P users.
Plus, there's a good chance that Flash wants a 3rd OSL title (Golden Mouse!) more than a 2nd MSL title.

But Flash, I believe! Maintain your dominance!
