2010 MSL Season 1 Group Selection Ceremony will go ahead without a definite sponsor.
The 2010 MST has ended on the 11th, with the Group Ceremony happening on the 25th, but MSL has not been able to secure a sponsor as of yet, therefore the Group Ceremony will go ahead without one.
MBC Game announced:"We have not finalized a sponsor, and are still in conference with the potential sponsor. We believe that we will be able to announce it soon."
2010 MSL will begin its three-month long campaign after the Group Ceremony

STX SouL's  Hwasin has been out of line-up due to family emergency.
Hwasin has been granted leave from the team to take care of his sick grandmother. He will likely not appear in STX's line-up in the near future.
There is no official news though, but the news is confirmed by some e-sports journalist.

Apparently, on the 21st, STX went to a 2-day-1-night vacation trip in Gangwon-do. Hwasin was unable to participate though, due to the family emergency mentioned above. Players will have some free time until the 28th.

Or will they end up in a downward spiral? Sponsors see that the product sucks, spend less. MSL has less budget, so product sucks. Etc.
Well, MBC should draw some extra funding elsewhere to slowly make their show respectable again, then they can get bigger sponsorships. Or, perhaps it's the twilight of Broodwar.

The sponsors care only about the Korean audience numbers, but once thing to note is that the viewer counts on TL restreams have declined dramatically since the SC2 beta comes out. Although the tastes of our community don't necessarily reflect the tastes of the Korean audience (especially the fangirls), I do think it's a sign of things to come.

Does the MSL want a fanbase at all? Fans before sponsors. Without fans, you will have no sponsors in the future anyways , as you'll lose your audience.

I wonder if the lack of sponsor is because of the power outage incident. Hopefully it won't harm them too badly, while the MSL has problem it's still a second star league.
Also does the incident with Hwasin's grandmother explain why he wasn't sent in the playoffs? I forget if he was even seen at the playoffs, but even if he was he might not have been available for practice because of this. That or STX just threw the game to go on a early vacation

Well after the MSL fuck up last season, I doubt anyone would wanna sponsor them. If I were a sponsor I sure wouldn't sponsor them either but I hope they can find a sponsor as I wanna watch the games. As for Hwasin, its sad that he could not make it but I respect his decision nonetheless.

well i dont think they lack of sponsors, after all it's MSL even though with the power outage disaster I'm quite sure many companies would still want to sponsor the tournament ... i think they're just trying to work out the best deal possible (like in an auction)

You take that back! Gom was an amazing league, with a much better format, and English casters on top of that. The two instances it was run produced some great games. The only problem with it was the power struggle with the established esports industry and kespa, which led to its demise.

Flash's group is a walk in the park, I hope he doesn't become overconfident. Overall there isn't really a big bad group of death so hopefully most of the favorites make it through to RO16 so we get some good BO3s.
A fair number of these groups are tough to call.

Group C is ridiculously stacked... Will be fun to watch.
Also group G looks pretty interesting.
Both Flash and Jaedong have relatively easy groups but anything can happen. There are always huge upsets in the group stage but I would rather have both advancing.

Movie's PvP is his best matchup according to him, and if it's better than his PvZ the others had better run for cover lol...

I say that this is the best group Bisu can ever ask for. But in his current form, I won't be surprised to see him drop at most a game. Still, Bisu for 3-0. If he doesn't make it out of that group, he should just go to ACE. LOL BISU FIGHTING!!
EDIT: Bisu is 2-0 against both Movie and Shuttle. Just saying.

Bisu has 75% winrate after his semifinal against Stork in the EVER OSL 2007. Thats almost 80 games of pvp. If something kept him going during his months of slumping in late 2007 early 2008, was his stable performance in pvp. I for one will be confident even if he is against Kal, Stork and BeSt in the same group. Bisu will eat these youngsters alive

I got so much video footage of him last night. He was constantly dorking about and having a laugh with Hyun. I also got some funny footage of July making Bisu laugh for about 15 minutes straight and Jaedong grooving to his i-pod.

Yeah, the interview segments were basically JD/Flash + Sea/Hyun talking.
Sea has the sharpest tongue ever, everything he says is just airtime-worthy. And I dunno what they're doing at MBCGame house but it seems like a lot of fun and since Hyungjun did his show, it's gotten even crazier.
