Hello everyone! From the good amount of interest, support and acceptance we received from the previous thread regarding my idea that I put out to the public yesterday regarding a first ever low ranking TL-community based Starleague, I am safe to say that this once crazy dream have become a reality!!! So for all those who are interested of joining and participating in this individual fun and competitive Starleague, please sign right up! (Remember to sign up only if you are interested and have the willingness of spending time and effort to play this through.)
Now regarding the initial rules and format of how this "Starleague" can work out will be listed below that are either already set in place based on ideas (in which can always be compromised) or are decided by YOU! The members of the TL community by voting in the polls!!!! So without further adieu..
What is NSL (Novice Starleague)?
Alright, let's start off with this. I'm sure many of you are puzzled by the fact that some random dude decided to pop out of his cave to the TL community one day to create an exciting individual league for a lot of you. So what is it? It's a TL-community fan based Starleague consisting of low ranking players from the newly formed CPU rank to D+ rank. (Sorry C- and above rankers, this league is strictly for us novice players so make your own "immediate" Starleague! :D) It's where we go by the rules of OSL, MSL, and any other type of individual tourneys out there and duke it out among us low ranking players! (I'm a low ranking player too! I mean )
Eligibility
The very first thing we need to go over and discuss is what it takes to be a future Novice Starleague winner! And by that as in what sort of standards you got to be in order to take part of this individual league regardless what happens at the end. Which means, if you started out as a D ranking player and ended at C ranking player, that's all perfectly fine since you started as D rank player but.... there are always the possible case that smurfers and abusers who are C and above pop out to scare and ruin everyone else fun away.... yes.. I am looking at YOU! (well maybe not you exactly...)
So basically players who are from CPU to rank D+ on iCCup are automatically eligible to take part of this league! But how can one determine they are right, fit and worthy enough to join? Well let's find out with this possible poll:
Poll: Minimum Game Requirements? (Vote): None! I trust you and you trust me we're D+ or below! (Vote): At least 10 games! (Vote): At least 30 games! (Vote): At least 50 games! (Vote): 100 games or more?!?!??!
Poll: How to discriminate skill gaps? (Vote): iCCup profiles and history of games (Vote): Screening of games (reps + judges on qualifier rounds) (Vote): Moral honor code and swearing! (Meaning if you lie, a ban on TL may awaits you...) (Vote): Other: Suggestions and ideas posted or PM me.
Format
The first ever NSL will be conducted by the full similar copied method of how an OSL works! Which means we will have an all or nothing qualifiers round based on the OSL Offline Preliminaries, then a Ro36 for the survivors of those qualifying rounds, into a 16 remaining players of the "Group Selections".
From there, we'll select the 4 different groups of 4 players where the first four 4 seeds of the group selection will be determined and decided by the organizers of this tourney (mainly I will automatically be Seed 1, my co-host who shall not be named yet will be Seed 2, etc). This will only be in effect for this first ever NSL when starting from the next NSL and forward, the Seeds will be determined by the previous NSL until further notified....
Then we start the round robin of the Ro16 to Bo3 in Ro8 to Bo5 in Semi-finals and Finals, all the way to the grand winner of the first ever NSL!!! Note that players may become a C rank after this NSL in which they would not be eligible to compete with the future NSL until further notice.... But they can start out as D and finish with whatever rank you are at!
FAQ: What about the Ro36 Seeds?!?!?! Answer: That will be decided later on after the Qualifiers round, possibility with an optional round to determine those Seeds and the remaining seeds available...
The matches would most likely take place on Thursdays and/or Fridays night Eastern Standard Time. I believe this may be convenient for most people and the actual time will be determined very shortly. An event will take place every week where week 1 would be Qualifier round, week 2 being Group Selections and Ro16, week 3 being Ro8, etc...
All in all, each NSL should start and finish all in ONE FULL MONTH. So keep that in mind folks!

Sponsors/Prizes
To get everyone hyped up and have a motivation and willing to finish till the end, I was originally planning to have a sponsor for the NSL to create a prize pool (mainly first prize winner only...) that can be something extremely small such as a "10 dollars iTunes gift card!" Although this sounds good and nice to hear, along with the sponsor having their name of their company, organization, or anything before the "NSL" (eg. Ever NSL... one can only dream..?), because this is the first ever Novice Starleague, I will keep this on hold. Which means the very first NSL might not have a prize but rather just to play for fun, honor, joy, and competition among fellow TL players. In the future, I am planning to look to this and perhaps I might even change my idea for this first one before it begins regarding this matter... but for now, it is known as the first ever Novice Starleague!
Now that I have explained the basic idea and the whole concept of this league to come, I will now ask any and all interested TL players to sign up and join the fun!!

And viola! Simple isn't it?? You don't only have to be a player to take part of this. We need streamers, casters, judges/refs, helpers and so much on! Why, we might even need a real journalist to interview the winners and makes thread of. So how about it, will you take that role and the challenge?
Signing up Deadline: I am looking at the deadline of signing up this tourney to be on Sunday, December 27 @ 00:00 EST!!! After the deadline passes, I am hoping to start this on the beginning week of January and last throughout the entire month of January! So stay tune!
FAQ: I'm not a D+ rank player or lower, so I can't play it seems... then is there a way to help out or do something else regarding this? Answer: Why of course!!! We desperately need streamers, commentators, judges/refs, banner maker, interviews, and so on! There are so multiple ways to get active and join the fun! So come ahead and don't be shy!
FAQ: If I'm a player, can I also stream, help out, sponsor, commentator, etc? Answer: Of course!!!! You can definitely do more than one role than just being a player of this league! The only thing you might not be able to do is judge/ref but we'll see about that... ^_^

FAQ: No, seriously, I really do suck... Answer: That's alright, this will be a great learning experience for you! You will be able to practice, watch other people play in your level, and so forth. Just because you really do suck shouldn't stop you from playing! ^_^
FAQ: How many players? Answer: As many as possible!! To be honest, all we need is 16 but I sure definitely wish to see more and more, hopefully reach in the numbers of 100! This should be a fun league to play, watch and learn!
FAQ: What if I can't make it during the times it's listed? Answer: Hmm... then it is a bit unfortunate but you might be unable to play. But that's ok, there should be plenty of other things to do besides being a player! Like every major Starleague player has their own practice partner or buddy! :D
FAQ: Can I be in the top 4 seeds? Answer: No, sorry but the first four seeds in NSL #1 is reserved for the ones who made this possible, the hosts, creators and sponsors of this league. But if you try really hard, I bet you can be a top seed on the next NSL!
FAQ: What if I was a C- rank player in the previous seasons but I'm a D rank player now. Can I still play? Answer: Hmm.. sorry but you might most likely won't be eligible to play as this tourney is designed and created precisely for the lower ranking players, hence the name "Novice Starleague." However in the future, someone might come in and create a league just for you guys!
FAQ: On the "available time" slot of the signup info, the two choices, Thursday and Friday, what timezone is that based on? Answer: Eastern Standard Timezone as I see that the most convenient timezone to set it on. So if you live somewhere on Europe, you might have to consider the times into consideration.

Lastly I want to say a few words to end my long waited hard created OP of successfully creating the first ever Novice Starleague!
I thank all parties of helping this come process, from the previous thread, from the ideas of clazz's once exciting Liquid Tourney to the current process of CPL that created the whole coming of this event!

For the people who are confused about the spreadsheet O_ops have created on the first page, that list like a bit outdated and 5-6 days OLDDDD. That means anyone who signed up after that was listed isn't updated yet in which he is doing at the moment and I'm planning to create a new thread soon with all the people who qualify and etc. So stay tune with that and be patience...
Lastly, there are still many of you who did not complete 40 games requirement in order to be eligible for the league. We gave you a whole week but now is considering a special one-time exception of postponing the deadline to this Wednesday 30th to meet that 40 games. The rules are simple, sign up or not, you don't have anywhere CLOSE to 40ish games, you are automatically out. Might as well weed out those who do not wish to really commit themselves to this league as I smell possible smurfs and abusers from them. That is my update!

Alright guys, I suppose I'll start with this first statement regarding the first 4 top seeds. I only suggested the whole idea for the 4 people who made this NSL possible to rightfully get the first top seed 4 ONLY FOR this first NSL. That doesn't mean they start with ro4 or anything, they start with group selections.
Secondly, there are still Ro36 seeds undecided which will be determined after the Qualifier Rounds in which an optional small round will be held to determined the Ro36 seeds plus the remaining gap of the 4 seeds if there is any. Is that really that unfair for me (a lowly D rank zerg player) and my co-hosts who also are D to not have the right to start up on the seeds that is meant to be ONLY FOR this first round? I already told you guys, next round, this advanced calls for Seeds won't happen since it will be determined from previous NSL mostly.
Tell me then, what the hell I should do with the first 4 seeds that remains a gap then? As well as 12 other gaps in Ro36? So does that mean the people who started up this (and no, I'm not the only one who's making this possible possible) don't even have a shot to play? Or my co-hosts or I can't play in a tourney that's organized for you guys and also us too?

you didn't described your problem. how did the points "vanished"? did u transfered them or did u cleared them? and what do u mean "after the season" when the season was over you stats just disapper or smt? please describe your problem .
Also, saying that you can't prove it any way, means all your replays "vanished" aswell?

I don't believe so, I've looked into a bit and I couldn't find any way to run the chaos launcher either...unless somebody else knows. I'd greatly appreciate any help if somebody has advice.
I made a poll in that to determine to the TL community what would be the best method to qualify a person to play in this individual league. The poll will heavily influence our decision to allow you to play in the league, and as it seems, 50 games minimum has a huge popularity. This can or can not be how it might work out. However, for safety, you should at least play 40 games I suppose before we determine you into this event.
And yes, past records are ok if it does add up to that amount of games.
The only reason and one possible solution to avoid such smurfers is by this method where we don't want someone who's a C or B to come in with a D account to ruin the entire fun and contest for us...

Uhh wow... thanks for pointing out for me. As I mentioned on the OP and throughout the thread, the whole idea of this NSL is for people who are low ranking players and wish to practice, compete in a mock professional background, and have fun. But by having a C rank players in the past trying to play in this "novice-only" league, that defeats the entire purpose as people honestly won't be able to have fun and everything become ruined by the abusers and smurfs. I've seen other people pointing this out as well, so thanks for all of you.
And kore, sorry but you are not eligible to play in the NSL as many others have pointed your C rank in the past. Plus, it's good that you got caught now because if you got caught later, a more serious offense will occur. Sorry but I wish you luck anyway with anything else!

I don't get whats so bad about it...they are copying the osl tourny system, which has seeds. Who else they gonna give it to? Doesn't really matter either way...if they aren't the best players they wont win, regardless of where they are seeded.

That can be arranged and be possible if we have enough large number of people in Europe or Asia into the league.... otherwise it might be only based on American timezones...
Also, I am sort of planning to split the preliminaries into two different days and cutting up the number of people into half if we get a large pool of participants as well.

Well, I suppose just play enough that the total is somewhere around 40-50~ games.... I think the requirements might be lower to 40 possibility but we're still determining how we are going to judge. So just play like 10 more games or so and I think you should be alright.

1. We won't be able to play ourselves because we are busy mod-ing and overseeing the Qualifier rounds where we have to see, judge, stream, and ref you guys. So then I might as well not play then but the whole part of the point is also for me to play with you guys too and join in the fun.
2. Trying to find the 4 seeds by having another tourney within a tourney to determine the seeds is pain in the ass. As well as taking people's time and having to extend another week to a possible 5-6 week NSL. Do you want this to be 2 months long for a single NSL or a month long with a new NSL each?

I played over 50 games last season, that's like 1 week ago. I haven't got time to play 50 games until January, that ought to be good enough I hope.
For the Student pupil league, they used google spreadsheets, that could be something for this, to organize it easier. Also, timezones added to the signup would sounds like a good idea. Since my thursday night isn't what "Shurgen" above from canada means by it.

It's obvious that nothing is final, that's why im trying to help you out. 1. Say there are 4 admins, say you split the qualifiers into 4 separate groups. Each qualifier will be played over a day or two, now you put 1 admin in each qualifier. So for every admin playing, there will be 3 overseeing, that should do the trick. 2. Drop the OSL format in the first tournament, employ one that doesn't force seeding, and then use the OSL format next time around if you really want to. 3. This is your project not mine, i have no interest in making a league.
Also, if you lose early in the tournament and dont get seeded into the next one, how do you intend to play? You already stated that your motivation to create this tournament is to play in it, but apparently only for one season if necessary.

How long will we have before the match to prepare? I have numLoCKzzz and [vIU]Inspired that played last season. numLoCKzzz was D+ with ~20 games (and cleverly dodging most pvp) and vIU[Inpsired] was D with ~30 games.

On behalf of anyone who seems likely to miss out on what should be a fun tournament because of the game cap, I'd like to request a couple more days (perhaps all the way until the 31st) to reach the 40 game threshold.
I think it's reasonable to expect 40 games for people to prove themselves as a true D player, but due to the new iCCup season beginning only recently and the holidays on top of that, I and probably many others will have trouble reaching 40 games in the next day or so.
I understand that it will take some time to organize the tournament after registration closes, and that the NSL can't simply begin right after the eligibility window closes, but I personally would rather have a slight delay on the tournament if it means that everyone who wants to participate can. Thanks for your consideration.

I think what Striker means by signup deadline is the deadline that you can submit a form, not having your iccup games requirement filled.
Just so you know, it will take about 2 weeks at least to get tourney started. You guys have some time.

How hard do we have to try if it's clear we're going to lose? What I mean is, let's say I go 12-nex, and it turns out my opponent bbs'd. Should I try to defend valiantly, or just gg and play another game to get my 40 as quickly as possible?

Notice: For the people who are confused about the spreadsheet O_ops have created on the first page, that list like a bit outdated and 5-6 days OLDDDD. That means anyone who signed up after that was listed isn't updated yet in which he is doing at the moment and I'm planning to create a new thread soon with all the people who qualify and etc. So stay tune with that and be patience...
Lastly, there are still many of you who did not complete 40 games requirement in order to be eligible for the league. We gave you a whole week but now is considering a special one-time exception of postponing the deadline to this Wednesday 30th to meet that 40 games. The rules are simple, sign up or not, you don't have anywhere CLOSE to 40ish games, you are automatically out. Might as well weed out those who do not wish to really commit themselves to this league as I smell possible smurfs and abusers from them. That is my update!

With Christmas and whatnot during the past week, it was a bit hard for me to hit the 40 game mark, I'm only at about 20 right now on my Art.ShallOw account. I'll keep playing until Wednesday, I know I can hit 40 by then. I'm still not even sure if I'll be allowed to play, considering I have hit C once before (a year and a half ago), but the fact that I'm barely over 50% at D right now doesn't hurt my cause <.<

I came down with a case of headache this past few days, so i wasn't able to work on anythin sorry. But now I'm back.
First order of business, the manager of CPL has been kind enough to let me have the list of old accounts of CPL players. That means some of you CPL players will be cleared of the requirements of games.
Second, I am working on the helper's list and will have them completed (and posted somewhere) late tomorrow. If possible, I will ask Striker to set up a staff thread for this as well.
Third, I will try my best to have a meeting with a volunteer sometimes in the next 2 weeks. BTW, Quickstriker has forwarded me the pm's of volunteers who pm'ed him. I will include you guys in the helper list as well.

Many of you guys are not even CLOSE to fulfilling your game requirement. There are about 3 of you that are closed to getting the games (you should know who you are, gratz). Striker pm'ed me today (or really late yesterday lol) saying the game deadline will be extended to + Show Spoiler +
no later than the 30th of Decemeber when it strikes then at EST.
I'll suppose my job will be made hella easier with like, 40 players removed from the list by then, but please, get the games. 40's the magic number.
One last thing: to those who would get the games by the deadline, know that i will be on your matchlist like stink on sh!t, so if you're quitting halfway or whatever at least put some effort into it instead of quitting at every 2 minutes mark.

On one hand, my job would be make a wee bit easier and one more person will be happy. On the other hand, i don't know if i should break the rule or not. At least 2 people pm'ed me about late signups, and there are a bunch of people on here as well. I want to be on the fair side as much as possible.

The Qualifier Round for NSL which is the first step will take place in January 14th and 15th.... so if you can't make it, I'm very sorry...

To be fair, the original post says nothing about the sign-up being over (that I found, I apologize if I overlooked it, but if I did, I could understand how others did too). If its a big deal to you, you should probably put it in big letters at the top of the OP as seems to be the standard.
So is there another thread where you can read about the brackets, when the games are taking place, who you are playing e.g. ? Cant seem to find anything, and this thread really gives no guidance
