GENERAL INFO

In this post I will mention general information regarding streaming the Coach-Pupil League matches, also the requirements, rules and the minimum setup that we will be using in the settings for Camtasia, Flash Media Live Encoder and Procaster.

Software used:

  • Camtasia 5.0.2
    ftp.techsmith.com/Pub/products/camtasiastudio/enu/502
pm me to send you my key

  • Flash Media Live Encoder 3.0
    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?e=fmle3
If you have downloaded an adobe product before just use your email adress and password, if not just set up a quick account for download.

  • x264 Codec rev. 1360*
    http://www.free-codecs.com/x264_Video_Codec_download.htm

  • Prio
    http://www.prnwatch.com/download.html
This program allows you to save the priority settings and affinity settings so you dont have to be changing this over and over again every time you open the programs. It is the last one on the list.

  • Procaster**
    http://livestream.com/procaster

    *
I remember somebody mentioning that it was not necessary to download this codec, because FMLE has the h264 codec installed. You can download it if you want. I have it installed and configured so its your call.

    **
As far as I know the only way you can Stream with ProCaster is playing Starcraft in window mode. If you have it in full screen then you will have the problems with the colors

I created a calendar in which I will add the matches that can be streamed. If you have gmail you can access the calendar yourself through google calendar. In any case you can access the calendar via your browser using this link:

http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=qv0atsr1a464r7162cfdsvsqh8@group.calendar.google.com&ctz=America/New_York

I will add all your emails to my calendar so you will get a notification in your mail about an upcoming match.

You are going to choose if you are able to stream it or not by selecting that you are going to attend to that event or not and then I will add you to that particular stream.

I expect it to be several matches in one day so if several streamers are available that day I will set them up for each match.

If there is still more streamers than matches then we will decide who will stream that particular game.

If you said that you are going to stream a match and you were selected to do it then you MUST be on the channel at least 30 minutes before the match. I will ask the players to be there as well at that time so you can make a test match to make sure the game is not going to lag, this is very important, so when you say you are able to go at a specific time you must be sure you can do it 30 minutes before the due time.

After we decide who will stream a specific game I will tell that person to which Channel he is going to Stream to. Those are the links that you will copy/paste in Flash Media Live Encoder FMS link option, depending on which channel are you going to stream.

The FMS links to stream are:

REQUIREMENTS

To be part of the stream members you need to have the following:

  • An upload speed of more than 0.5Mb/s, you can check your speed at www.speedtest.net.

  • At least 2GB ram if you are using FMLE because enconding live takes a lot of resources.

  • You need to create an Iccup account with the [Stream] or [S] Tag on it.

This is 100% necessary because we need to differentiate you from the players of the game that you are streaming so that there is no problem in letting you enter as an observer in to the game.

The rules of the CPL laid down by l10f say that only Admins - Coaches - Streamers can enter a game to observe, so if you dont have the [Stream] or [S] tag we will not know you are a streamer and thus we will not allow you to enter a game.

You can create several accounts on iccup with the same email if you have a gmail account. Just add a dot on it, ie.: graptorx@gmail.com --> g.raptorx@gmail.com --> gr.aptorx@gmail.com... with this I can setup 3 accounts in Iccup, because gmail removes the dots and send the mails to your main account.

  • I need you to make a post here confirming that you are willing/able to stream in general, so I can make notes of who can and who cant. Note that later on you will have to confirm for each event individually.

SETTINGS

I will post the settings that I found worked best for me. This is just for you to have an idea of what is the minimum quality settings for each program, but of course if you have already experience with the programs and have better settings then just use the ones you have. Also experimenting is very good, you can use my settings and try to make them better.

My Specs

XP
Core2Duo 2.50 Ghz
4Gb Ram
Sound Blaster Audigy with the "What you hear" option on to pick up mic + starcraft sound... note that you have to unmute the mic on the playback panel so you can actually pick up the sound of the mic in your stream.

ADSL

Total Bitrate 356kbps.

You can put higher settings if course but the limit is a total of 500kbps, since you have to have a premium account in livestream to get more than that.

I found out that putting the channel in mono fixes the issue that you can only hear the sound of certain units and not others during streaming. I think that issue is due to Stereo sending 2 channels but livestream only getting 1.

Gotta go Techsmith with VP6. H264 is simply too taxing on the system, especially if you run Main 3.1.

Procaster absolutely sucks, so I absolutely do not recommend using it.

And you're correct. Camtasia does not encode when in Live Output mode, so installing x264 codec won't do anything.

I tried going VP6... the whole thing was lagging like crazy and I was dropping like 20 frames out of 30, so the whole thing looked like a picture by picture thing.

About procaster I also think the same but I think one of the guys said that he was using procasting to stream and I am not here to tell you which is the best but which where the settings that worked with me with each program.

are you able to stream without lagging?

specially when there is 3 people in the game.

I put it as a requirement but it is for not lagging the games. If you are sure you can stream without problems then there is no issue.

No your right it really depends on the day whether I lag or not and have never tried 3 or more people I was just originally suggesting myself as a possible backup but I will check to see if it is possible I haven't used it too much.

I'm able to stream with procaster without lagging. I'll be testing this soon.

What are some tricks to get Livestream to approve me?

as I said I also believe in him... there is nothing worse than Procaster to cast, specially starcraft... I dont know if you guys havent seen Day[9] having to restart his cast because the program "froze" :D

But if somebody wants to use it, then go ahead and use it. There is no problem for me.

Can we have a Justin.tv stream as well? I REALLY prefer Justin over Livestream, it seems to cause me less issues.

But I am 100% set up with what I have. Been doing this for a year and a half.

Also, can you PM me the user names (If different from stream name) and password to those channels so I can moderate chat?

Edit: Why do all 3 of the streams have the EXACT same http? Shouldn't 2 be 2 and 3 be 3? They all say 1.
So wait? I'm bad? =(

Should you really be revealing the PW to the streams on a public post?

And I will try to configure my stream later, but for those who don't have the option to choose the "what you hear", you can use a program called audiorepeater (google it, you'll get a page to VAC (virtual audio cable), and it'll be one of the programs in that file. honestly you don't need the rest, only audiorepeater.exe, but if you wanna play around with it, sure.

Then you open audiorepeater.exe and wave in you choose your mic, wave out you choose your speakers/stereo mix (make the mic noise in, outputs it to your speakers, so you get both sc and voice in speakers so FMLE can record that)

Well the thing is that I didnt know justin.tv and I set up everything for livestream. If you use Flash Media Live Encoder the only thing that you have to change is the FMS link.

I just fixed the links, they are correct now.

I am coordinating the streamers.
Right now I have around 16-17 people who want to stream.

As far as I know there will be several matches in one day, so I will be able to assign several people to stream. I only have 3 channels setup though, if I need more channels I will set them up.

But basically I need to know who are going to stream for sure and who wont in a specific day, I will determine that by sending a notification of the date and time of the event and the streamers will have the option to say if they can that day or not.

After that If there is too many streamers we will see how we can do it. At least the Official ones have to be set up, the other ones can stream to their private channels if they want.

I am not thinking about streaming FPVODs in the main channels, just obs in the main matches.

@dhe95

Those usernames and passwords have no permission whatsoever to change anything on those accounts except for adding a camera and streaming because I have them pointing at the real channels in my account which you cant see. So there is no problem with that, I set them up thinking about that.

Perfect, you should go ahead and play on network and stream at the same time, you must be certain that it wont affect your network connection.

I expect you guys to stream full BW sounds and/or commentaries if you want. if you put music on the background it should be in low volume. I would prefer that you guys put music without lyrics like electronic or trance, this site has lots of great internet radio channels that I think are OK for background music in main matches:

http://www.di.fm/

If you stream to your personal channel there is NO limitation on what you want to put and how is your volume.

I will not cast FPVOD's to the main CPL-Game# channels but you can stream it to your personal channels if you want.

I will assign official matches which you will enter as an observer, but you can stream side matches in your personal channel as well.

Alright, I set up my stream account despite the fact that I already have an account for being a player SINCE YOU INSIST OF ME MAKING A SEPARATE NEW ACCOUNT... so my streaming account which I won't even consider possibly doing as a full time streamer but rather part-time is...

[Stream]QS

btw, I have my own channel to stream and all, which is all verified and all, so should I ever stream, I'm sticking with my own channel most likely...

It is not that I "insist" its that if you guys want to be able to enter a match which is not your own to stream it you must be either admins, coaches or streamers. And to make sure you are a streamer I am asking you to add the tag to your nick.

if you dont do it you simply wont be able to stream the main games unless you are the player...

you can stream the non official matches if you want to your own channel, but the official ones are to be streamed to the channels I created for that.

Im sorry if that is too much of an inconvenience for you guys but you know that nobody is forcing you to do this things.

Don't worry about it, it doesn't work anyway (for live streaming that is)

they say that in live output the codec is not going to be used anyways... so make sure in FMLE you have the h.264 codec selected and configure.

Also about affinities, if I read right you put FMLE on one core high prio, starcraft same on the other, doesnt that mean camtasia will struggle?

Lol... wtf, crybaby?? Wow, such destructive criticism already even before this started? Shows how much people look down upon people who are WILLING to stream and play these days. People like you are exactly why I stopped making PL LR OPs, stream OSLs and PLs, and etc. Because such people don't know how or when to thank someone or be a little respectful or appreciated. =/

Although crybaby is a strong word, your liberal use of capslock makes your appear quite "loud", and with the streaming initiative being entirely voluntary, the act of complaining about the signup method (atleast mentioning it in an obviously condescending way) seems rather ungrounded, especially when it's such a trivial thing like making an iCCup account, thus Ziphs depiction of you - while being rather visual, is not entirely wrong, in my opinion.
In regards to the whole effort of streaming and other TL voluntary efforts, I think Plexa once mentioned that the intention of doing any kind of work for the site, had to be the pure unadulterated wish to help the community - expecting nothing in return. And lastly, even though TL is TL, TL is still the internet. Do not take it seriously, even the most hardened contributors like NeverGG and konadora have been on the receiving end of random profanity, be it through livestream chat or irc. And even they, as far as I remember, were told to calm the f*ck down.

And i think no one here was unappreciative of your help to the cause, we're merely bringing it to your attention that you come off as "whiny", through your use of caps lock etc.

Thanks for your feedback and input. Now this is a rather respectable constructive response rather than the destructive criticism from Ziph. I understand I do tend to go off ways in terms of "overreacting" through my responses and speech, but understand that like you mentioned, this is the internet and obviously I wouldn't be actually acting like I'm yelling to one's face. (Though you do make the point where you mention "appear" so yea, I see what you mean.)

I suppose I'll try to limit and control my uncanny typing im posting skills of my usual overuse of "capslock" in the future. But yea, I wasn't expecting anything in return when I was helping out TL voluntary efforts and streaming and all that. However, I wasn't expecting insults as well when I do these things. I mean gosh, if they are bitching at these people, I like to see them do the things I would take an extra effort and time to do. I know how konadora and NeverGG have to go through but they have their own ways to deal with these problems (ie. konadora with his 600ish ban names/list in his livestream when I checked on it, etc). My methods are simply a bit more extremist where I simply quit and let them try for themselves. But in any case, I will apologize my strong uses of caps where it's just my bad habit and to change one's habit, well, can you really have that much influence of changing me?

I suppose not, but you'll be a one-bad-habbit less man for the sake of it. When i look at livestream chats (which remember, are made up of people that don't know how to use IRC), i come up with a rough estimate of people whining in the channel, let's say that number is 20. Then i look at the amount of people watchng the stream, let's say that number is 40. Then i conclude, that someone sane is actually entertained by stream, stopping the stream would then mean the victory for the bad guys would it not? Either way i think muting the chat (like Day[9]) is a balanced compromisation.
Or atleast think of it as public service, when you're isolating the dimwitted retards in your stream, making the admins less busy with cleaning up LR threads.

This is not to make you do all the things you stated that you were doing earlier, but just an afterthought incase you run into unruly waters during CPL streaming.

Streamers That I have for sure:

[S]Silence
[S]JonsaBoy
[Stream]Psy
[Stream]Ziph
[Stream]DHe95
[Stream]QS
[Stream]rei

The other I have them marked as yellow in my list, which means maybe.

I do not have a time preassure as l10f in the team page because here is not required. We will start streaming the official matches when they start but feel free to stream any [CPL] players on your own channel whenever you want. I have been streaming some games and I have to say there has been several good games, so dont be afraid and start streaming guys!

The rules in the OP apply mostly to the official matches.

That is great!

I just need to keep this organized so I would ask you to make your [stream] tag for CPL and post it in the thread.

and this is the format in which i have some of the info from the streamers:

TL Nick: Red_Storm
Time Zone: GMT +1
Email: s-------n@gmail.com
Microphone: No
Will stream: yes

If you can PM me those details would be great. The email is for sending you the available events to your mail and then you can decide if you are going to stream or not in that particular day.

I personally like the quality of your stream, I have been watching it for a little while. :D

+ Show Spoiler +
rtmp://publish.livestream.com/mogulus/cpl_game1/username=CPLgames/password=livegames/isAutoLive=true/autoVOD=true/autoAutopilot=true/autoRecord=true

into my FMLE FMS URL and rename the Stream name to
CPL-Game1

and also Is Teamliquid going to support the official stream of CPL by making these stream channels feature streams below the calender? so that ppl can have easier excess?

you copy the link, but DONT rename the Stream, leave it as "livestream" because I noticed that if you rename the stream you dont get image for some reason.

everything else is fine.

I think they will be supporting it, but i have to contact SonuvBob again and send him the calendar info.

As one may easily find the conflicting issues in regards to the other thread, for the time being until further reconsideration of exactly what I may get out of this since I know I won't be appreciated at all from anyone in TL if history recalls correctly, I am stepping down as a streamer not only because I am taking off from the list as a player from CPL, but also the lack of people who are willingly to see such potential of the streamers that are capable of as well as the neglect I felt from people in CPL in general. So thus, if the solution is not solved soon regarding my position in CPL, then you lost yourself a potential streamer that can produce such results you may wanted. Good luck to my other fellow streamers and I hope I'm not being you down for this, but don't get mad for this either and try to understand my position and where I am coming at this. Goodbye until further notice!

I'm curious as to what you would stream seeing as how you are not available when all the matches are taking place.

Thanks for the support.

Sorry that i have being little late replaying but i was little busy in these days.

I am not sure how "needed" is going to be in a few days when the event kicks off, since I have some streamers and 1 official channel + 2 back up channels.

If this goes well I think I WILL be needing some other people streaming to the back up channels but I want to reiterate that anyone is free to stream to their personal channels once the official channel is filled. So dont feel intimidated by the "professionalism" of this thing. :D

Great!

I just invited all of you to a meeting. This is how you are going to receive the matches and I need you to select on the bottom of it if you are going to attend or not. If you are not going (or if you choose maybe) please make a little note on why.

I hope I covered all of you. If you did not get the invitation in your mail then PM me with your email address and your TL nick so I can update my contacts.

Lastest Information

Out of ~20 streamers just 3 have responded yes to my email inviting them to the match today.

I will assume that you guys are out because of holidays and stuff.

Rei will be trying to contact Zozma< and >Frozenkatkiller and will be streaming to Game1

Mekhami will try tocontact NR < and> Etopen and will be streaming to Game2

Red_Storm will try to contact Kurai < and > Holgerius and will be streaming to Game3

It would be better if you can host the game, but if you cant just join as an observer. If you host remember to not allow anybody else than coaches streamers and the actual players. The less people is in the game the better the chances are of no lagging so keep it clean.

If any of the other Streamers want to stream you are free to do so in you own channel, but remember that you have to enter the game with the [Stream] or [S] tag.

-------------
INFO
-------------

I think those who assisted to the live event figured out that is a little bit more difficult than what we thought. I was talking to l10f and we will try to schedule the games so we can stream them.

I will designate few of us who will transmit to the official channels. The others can stream to your personal channels.

After the event we will make commentaries for the replays. This is easier to organize and the way we will be doing it is that I will send you guys an email and for those who answer me I will give you 1 replay which you will make the commentary. You will then send me the Video and I will upload it to the main CPL channel. After you finish with the video I will send you another replay if you want and so on.

This will be done the whole week so we will be releasing commentaries almost daily.
If you have any question please PM me or send me an email. I am always online in the channel even though sometimes I am afk but feel free to contact me.

Just wanted to drop in and show my support for the stream team. I've liked what I've seen so far and hopefully once we have more set schedules we'll be able to have almost all of the games streamed
Thanks!
