The StarGirl Un-ae is the longest serving StarGirl. She has been around since the Daum OSL 2007.
One reason she got popular was her resemblance to STX's Hwasin. Starcraft communities responded by Photoshopping the pictures of the two. There even was a rumor that they are siblings. But they had never even been properly introduced to each other.
Many would think that they would know each other, given the resemblance. But the meeting was slightly awkward.
"I see him during matches, but we never have chance to get close. It might be funny if I say hi when we were never been introduced (laugh). Also since I'm a girl it's hard to approach. And that I'm older makes me even more careful," Un-ae said.
But it's hard not just for Un-ae but for a lot of people in eSports to get close to Hwasin. He doesn't talk a lot and has a slightly blunt personality where he doesn't say things if they aren't necessary to be said.
Un-ae is pretty shy too, saying she doesn't have close progamer friends. He might be familiar because the two look alike, but she said that it's hard even to say hi lightly.
"To be honest, I don't know how to interact with the progamers younger than I am. They are usually younger, so it's hard to start talking. And eSports is filled with rumors, so it's even harder," Un-ae said.
* Similarities between Hwasin and Un-ae
So they never got to be close. But during the interviewed it was revealed that the two shares some common grounds.
"I don't usually talk a lot, except with people I know well. Hwasin is the same," Un ae said.
"Indeed. I talk a lot with people I see often and am close with. But I rarely talk around people I see for the first time, so some say it's unusual," Hwasin said.
It doesn't even have to be stressed how the 20 minute went with two taciturn persons. But they started conversations after finding out some common grounds.
"I was sad when I first heard that I resemble Hwasin. Even before that I heard that I resemble Hyunjoong Kim from the boy band SS501. What kind of girl would like to hear that she resembles a guy (laugh)? But should I be happy that I resemble the cute boys of eSports and music (laugh?" Un-ae said.
Hwasin said he didn't think the two look alike when he first saw her, but he said that he was surprised to see the pictures from communities.
"I had heard a lot that I look like a girl (laugh). People ask if it feels bad, but I really don't think about it much. It's just strange. It's said that when a couple marries or falls in love they begin to resemble each other. I see no problem in a guy and a girl looking alike. No, I'm not saying Un-ae and I are in love (laugh). Crap, I said something to be misinterpreted again (laugh)," Hwasin said.
Another similarity is that the two don't laugh a lot. Un-ae is even known as the "Icy Princess."
"I try, but the producer and the audience don't think I do (laugh). I don't know why. But I've been trying really hard lately," Un-ae said.
"Fans tell me not to laugh (laugh), saying it's weird (laugh). So I don't," Hwasin said.
* On the way to the interview
It must not have been easy for the two to come to the interview, since they don't really talk with people they don't know well.
"In fact, my nickname in the team residence is Youngsook (a girl name typically used in Korean textbooks) (laugh). The coach and the director have called me that since they heard that I look like Un-ae. So I was worried that I would do an interview with her," Hwasin said.
What worried him the most was the photo op. A photo op featuring a guy and a girl needs to present them being friendly, but Hwasin was very concerned about doing that with someone he never even got to talk to, saying that he worried all day since he never did a photo op with a girl besides the one with TossGirl.
"I was worried about the photo op the most as well (laugh). I don't talk a lot, but it seemed that Hwasin talks even less. I was cringed at the though of doing a photo op when it's like that (laugh)," Un-ae said.
So they refused to do a photo op before the interview, saying "let's do it afterward." They were told that since the interview is 5:30 p.m., doing the photo op after the interview might be too late since a night shop needs to be taken then. But they insisted in "never."
"When we actually met, he talked more than I thought he would. Bit fortunate (laugh)?" Un-ae said.
"I am trying really hard (laugh). After all a guy should talk a lot (laugh)," Hwasin said.
* A subtle friendliness
Un-ae got interested in Hwasin because of Hayoon Park who was a StarGirl during the Daum OSL. Park picked Hwasin as her ideal man, and since Un-ae has watched Hwasin's play.
But they really got interested in each other when they heard that they look alike.
"When I heard that, I wished that when StarGirls are changed I thought she won't be changed (laugh). And remember how the progamers voted for a StarGirl at the last Bacchus OSL. I naturally supported Un-ae. She better be more popular than Yeonji since she resembles me (laugh)," Hwasin said.
Hwasin said that he feels empowered when Un-ae is in the booth. But lately Un-ae said she doesn't like Hwasin being in her booth.
"Ever since I heard that we look alike I have hoped that he would reach higher places. But the win rate of the progamers in my booth wasn't good. People called it 'the curse of Un-ae.' Since then I didn't like Hwasin being in my booth (laugh)," Un-ae said.
Though they never even got to talk, they have supported each other in the distance. How do they feel about each other?
"I do get interested. I don't watch many matches, but I watch Hwasin's. And I feel bad when he loses. I feel like he has a high standard and has the personality of the type-B blood," Un-ae said.
"How did you know (laugh)? My blood type is B. Guys with that blood type don't have good images (laugh). She is the one I'm interested in the most out of all the females in eSports. I was surprised that she doesn't talk much, but I feel close since it seems like we have a similar personality. But I don't think that she is a nice girl (laugh)," Hwasin said.
* Ideal person
At the flowery ages of 22 year-old and 24 year-old, what are the ideal persons of the two? They both picked "someone I can talk with."
"Maybe because I don't talk much, I like funny people. Even better if we feel like connected. A nice guy similar to me who can understand me would be ideal," Un-ae said.
On the ideal appearance, Un-ae gave a shocking comment that she prefers a slightly chubby belly to a muscular type.
"I have a little belly too (laugh). I thought girls would like muscular guys, but that's surprising. I don't have to exercise to reduce my belly then (laugh)," Hwasin.
Hwasin said that his ideal is "someone who shines when you look at her." He said that he doesn't have much detail about personality or appearance. Not that she has to be pretty, but someone that when you look at her you go "this is the one" would shine to him.
"Hwasin is still young (laugh). When a girl gets older her ideal becomes more detailed, but that's not the case for a guy (laugh)," Un-ae said.
They talked for sometimes and got close a little. They promised that they would do the second interview after this OSL. Their last words.
"I expected a lot at the last season because he said he had a good feeling (laugh). I wanna see him going to the round of 4 at least and winning the OSL. If he wins, I would feel as if my brother wins. Go, Hwasin!" Un-ae concluded.
"I will do my best to make that happen. I wish she continues to support me and would like to see her at OSL. When we see next time I hope we are more friendly. Go, the StarGirl Un-ae!" Hwasin concluded.
[interview ends]
Talking about a progamer and StarGirl hanging out...
Progamers flirt with a StarGirl!
Xellos hangs out with hotties! (they aren't StarGirls but we wish)
"Ever since I heard that we look alike I have hoped that he would reach higher places. But the win rate of the progamers in my booth wasn't good. People called it 'the curse of Un-ae.' Since then I didn't like Hwasin being in my booth (laugh)," Un-ae said.
The curse of Crazy Eyes. She doesn't open her eyes like before though, so it's not that bad now.

When I first look at this picture,
I thought Hwasin was grabbing Un-ae's boobs...her shirt looks like it's coming off from his sleeve...

BTW, slightly OT, but I visited your site in the past and I really loved the 7224 translations! That show seems so fun lol.
Oh, thanks for visiting my site! I usually update the site first and if some stuffs haven't been posted here already I post them. 7224 is such a good show...the person I was getting videos from kinda stopped providing the videos!!!

I do recognize the interview could possibly have more contents...but the meeting was cute~! Two shy ppl...
LOL @ Stork+FBH video, good one the interview was yeah, kind of "bland" in terms of content (I mean, after FBH's 20Q20A, everything else kinda doesn't equal the epicness) but thanks for translation anyhow! hope hwasin and the stargirl can become good friends!

If you're talking about the other StarGirl, it's Yeonji.

Aww that's too bad; I'll miss all the bad karaoke from the players XD! The other translations you have on your site are awesome too! I can't believe you translated all of the group selection for the past OSL season :o! And the Star Girls interviews were really interesting tidbits as well ^^
This is the hottest, strangest, and most awkward SC interview ever. I didn't even really know what to think about the situation when I finished reading. It reminds me of some of my friendships actually - scary.
Would you do the heart thing by your hand with someone and hope that people wouldn't misunderstand it? I don't think so lol At least that's what couples I know usually pose when they take pictures ...
Well, ok interview, I guess. Thanks for posting. I have always wondered what a star girl does. What's her purpose in the booth? Technical support or something?
It's weird I'm wondering sometimes what the culture does to these people? She can't talk to him because he's younger than she is? He looks so fucking stiff and is terrified of saying anything that could sound wrong or be misinterpreted.. Is this how koreans are normally, like really shy and stuff? or is it just the sc nerds?

I just think Hwasin in general is a little shy/awkward. If you watch the MSL group selection stuff, Hwasin really doesn't talk much, and when he does talk he keeps it really short and dry.
"I had heard a lot that I look like a girl (laugh). People ask if it feels bad, but I really don't think about it much. It's just strange.
