Well I am relatively new to the site, and even more new to be posting here, but in the time that I've been here I have noticed that alot of people have been mentioning some curses which held true for one reason or the other, but as I said, in the title, "or what"?
Curses that held merit for one reason or the other were broken this year, even if the curses were there in the first place by accident in the first place, this is interesting to take a sneak-a-peak inside of it.

(and sorry in advance if the info is incorrect. Note, I also list unbroken curses)

Spoilers ahead!

What curses has been broken recently?

The OGN curse, broken by Jaedong, he is the ONLY after Boxer to win 2 consectuive OSL's (and get Golden mouse at the same time), and I dare say that the real finals of this OSL was the Semifinals of Jaedong vs Fantasy, since the finals vs Yarnc and Jaedong was so onesided and a total rape by the infamous JvZ (and the other semifinals was just as much rape, yeah Type-b vs Yarnc sucked).
Jaedong broke it and claimed the Golden mouse at once and set his name into history (yup, that has been mentioned before maaany times).

Other curse? Hwasin MSL curse, I really dont know much about it but I heard that everyone who knocks Hwasin out of the MSL, is bound to win it? Iris bounced Hwasin out, but well-o-well, Iris then lost in the same manner as vs the finals vs GGplay, 2-0 to 3-2.

Hell, even Konadoras predicting curse was broken in the SPL Finals after it "carried" Oz further on against CJ Entus.

Another curse?
Why the hell cant the world's best PvZ'er (aka Bisu, ranked 1st ELO and 2nd in KeSPA), not beat an above average zerg, (ranked 24th KeSPA and 25th ELO)? Bisu haven't beat by.hero since the first time they met, Hero's latest encounter vs Bisu.
According to the TL.net netizen Ideas, by.Hero is "cursed" to be a pain in the ass against all SK T1 players:
he is like 4-1 or 5-1 vs Bisu
1st televised win is vs boxer
defeated boxer in GSL season 2
defeated oov in the finals of his OSL prelim group in the batoo osl

Quoting this because I don't have much to add about it.

It was either a totally failed Sair reaver or some really awesome Hydra control... or just Bisu's version of Savior vs FBH? (Maybe it is safe to say that if FBH is Savior's nemesis by.Hero is Bisu's nemesis if you compare).
I am gonna say sorry in advance again if any facts are incorrect.

And how could I possibly forget this one? The infamous curse from GomTV which our beloved commentator Nick "Tasteless" Plott invented. The Panda-bear-guy curse!

The curse consisted in GomTV season 1-2 (mainly season 2), where everyone who killed a Pandabearguy (it's a ursadon for people who haven't watched GomTV). I'm sure that there are many examples of the curse, but the only one I can think off is Skyhigh vs Bisu on Destination

(remember that this was around the time where Skyhigh was a darkhorse and was about to have his breakthrough after outplaying Best 2-1 (and Skyhigh even won on the heavily PvT favored map; Medusa)):

Skyhigh was ahead of Bisu (Bisu went for carrier tech). Skyhigh had killed one of the 4 first carriers and was in a good position. But as Skyhigh pushed the pandabear guy walked into his tanks and virtually delayed the push (or atleast causing an annoyance for Skyhigh). Skyhigh pushed out and suddenly, Bisu OWNED Skyhigh, coming back from a relatively large deficit after losing an early carrier on a crucial time. And Skyhigh didn't do any obvious mistakes, either Bisu used some juicy devil scauce or the CJ Entus terran just lost out of nowhere.

This curse was broken in a humilliating way; Falcon vs Nada on Destination (Ro64 I believe) where Nada was losing, Falcon killed the Pandabear-guy on intent for no reason at all, and then Nada also lost the next game.

Even though Falcon lost the next series, the curse is considered to be broken.

Now when I have gone through the GomTV curse, we should also talk about it's blessing, I dare call it: FlaSh vs ShuttleShuttle aka Yoonjoong, he is a Protoss from STX Soul who does descently as a normal Protoss in the Proleague or Starleagues. But, in the GomTV classics, he has made it very far undtil he bumped into FlaSh or Jaedong. FlaSh vs Shuttle game 1 of HBR is one of the best TvP's this year featuring high level TvP from both sides. Even though Shuttle never took a game off FlaSh in the GomTV classics, that game on HBR was the closest there is, and it's the best game I've ever seen from our STX toss.

I guess I should hyberlink the game on HBR which I talked so much about (for those poor souls who haven't watched it) www.gomtv.net/videos/929

More curses? I'll keep it coming, some players, for whatever reason. Seem to get a fuckton of silvermedals. They will miracolously bounce into the league from a slump, 3-0 the preliminaries and go near undefeated too the finals... where they will phail.

If they fail because of the added pressure and suffer nerve problems and such that could be an answer. However, some good (above descent) progamers, who suffer with nerves (Skyhigh fx) will come over it when it matters (the proleague / GomTV mostly if we are to take Skyhigh as an example again).
Maybe they fail because they succumb to a better player?
Fantasy vs Stork was an example of this. (and relatively broke Stork's silver curse)

Maybe they fail and falls before a cheesy rush?
I am certain that this will ring a bell at the most hyped rivalry of all time, YellOw vs Boxer. The Terran emperor vs the Storm Zerg. Everyone had looked forward to an epic finals which would be remembered as unique. They got what they wanted... Just not in the fashion they wanted, Boxer bunker rushed YellOw 3 times in a row. Even though YellOw held of the initial bunker rush in the first game Boxer still won 3-0.

Or a mind game which their opponent has setup.
Fx Flash vs Stork, in the GSI Flash went for macro oriented builds and went 2-3 against stork, later in the Bacchus OSL finals soon after, Stork went for greedy builds to counter Flash's fast upgrade playstyle, but Flash had adapted his strategy to cheesy and aggressive plays which killed Stork in one of the shortest OSL finals of all time.

These 3 players; Stork, YellOw and to an extent, Fantasy. Seem to get silver in the individual leagues, really much. While we cannot say if Stork or Fantasy gets the nr. 1 trophy and the sweet taste of victory sometime, it's safe to say (sorry fanboys) that YellOw wont.

Another curse I will call a blessing. The Legend of the Fall.
Thanks to Dukethegold for this quote which I just happend to quote into the OP.
According to Dukethegold:
What about the Legend of the Fall?

While it is not absolute, if you take a look at the OSL record, you would notice that for a long period of time, since Garimto's OSL victory, almost all OSL during the fall season have a Protoss as the winner, as long as there is a Protoss finalist.

I believe Nada was the one who broke it, when he defeated Anytime during the ShinHan2006-2 OSL and secured his place in history as the first Golden Mouse holder

Cheers.

What exactly is the Konadora curse? Someone please enlighten me. Interesting thread by the way, although you could make that large chunk of text a bit more visually appealing by separating some sentences. ;p

For nearly a solid month, Kona would predict proleague matches and whatnot and his predictions would almost always be horribly wrong for no discernible reason. For a long time his best was going like 1 out of 4.

It became very annoying over the time, but still there is another curse which has been broken:
Pandabearguy's curse. If you kill him, you lose.
Dunno who it was that first broke the curse.
If you have a good reason to disagree with the above, please tell me. Thank you.

ohwwwww! Wow, how could I forget that one? (sorry Tasteless :<)

It was broken @ Falcon vs Nada on Destination where Falcon was about to win and then killed poor ol' PBG
(I will edit with some more juice on soon enough).

The only time I can remember where it didn't go bad was when he sent a letter to Stork saying "Congratulations on your victory" before the finals against Fantasy.

I can imagine Stork freaking the fuck out when he read that letter.

What about the Legend of the Fall?

While it is not absolute, if you take a look at the OSL record, you would notice that for a long period of time, since Garimto's OSL victory, almost all OSL during the fall season have a Protoss as the winner, as long as there is a Protoss finalist.

I believe Nada was the one who broke it, when he defeated Anytime during the ShinHan2006-2 OSL and secured his place in history as the first Golden Mouse holder.

Check this link: http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft/OSL

And yeah, Stork's OSL victory over Fantasy was hilarious since 1. he won during the fall and therefore rode the power of the Legend of the Fall. 2. He broke the Kim Carrier Curse. He was pretty freaked out about that one if his interview was any indication. 3. He broke out of the Kong-Line curse (if it's a curse) after 9(?!) silver medals. I remember reading his interview. He was thinking "oh no, the curses are working, I am the 2nd Yellow" during his final match against Fantasy.

Face it, Stork is cursed. I am still waiting to see what kind of (curse) effects will WoW have on him.

Stork obviously passed the flag of the Kong-Line to Fantasy. Fantasy isn't Boxer's heir, he is Stork's just as Stork was Yellow's.

Uh... Hahaha I guess thats not a curse but a logical reason behind that: Fantasy only checks up on oov when he havent all that much confidence (which is gonna make him lose anyways..)

Please suggest more curses, I like writing about it as an odd selfsatisfaction.

Dukethegold, I am gonna steal some of your post since i am too lazy to find out about it and the post kinda speaks for itself. (and edit it to the OP <'3)
