I just returned from MLG Anaheim, and it was amazing! I watched the most awesome Starcraft 2 players and casters do what they do best. A protoss even made it into the grand finals, something I was really hoping for (I never expected ‘toss to beat DRG). But despite all the epic win… I am a sad panda.
Why? Because I was stood up by Husky. And he probably doesn’t even know it.
See, I’ve been watching Husky since the early beta. He is Starcraft for me. I love his casual humor, memetasticness, and most of all his overlord noises. His monomono-battles are craziness. And props to pulling off a proxy-mothership! (I’m certain all the pros will be doing that soon.)
Anyway…. My friends know how much I love Husky. My good friend neoghaleon55 went to MLG Anaheim 2011 and stood in line for hours to get me this signature .
I couldn’t believe my eyes! HuskyStarcraft wrote that he loves me! I know he’s never met me, but he loves carriers and I don’t think he’s met one of those either. More than that, he asked “Why aren’t you here???” Why not indeed! This was a life-line for a distant fan, a sign that he cares. It was a promise that he’d be there for me if I came to see him. It was a date.
I needed to go, I needed to see Husky myself. I wanted a picture, a high-five, and maybe even a hug. (I’m tiny, but my wife cautioned me not to tackle him like a football player.) Camera in hand, I set off for MLG 2012. I had a quest.
And boy did I have fun at MLG; I got pictures with Sase and MKP, watched Alicia face the mighty double-headed monster (MKP/DRG), and drank Dr. Pepper till I was sick.
And I kept my eyes open for the man himself-HuskyStarcraft. But he wasn’t anywhere I looked. Not on the schedule, not on the floor. I kept asking the info-desk people if they saw him, but to no avail. Sure, he was at MLG, having fun with the other casters and players. But I had a date! Where was my high-five? Day-9 was out on the floor, and he’s cool-and-all, but I had a quest.
Sigh… He never came. Maybe I missed him, I said to myself. I checked his Twitter and Facebook feeds for signs that he stepped on the floor. Nope. Still, I could have turned left when he turned right. I could have been watching a match while he high-fived hundreds of fans at the front. Or maybe… just maybe… he didn’t come out afterall. Maybe Husky was just having too much fun to come out and say hello to his fans...
Only he and the omniscient internets knows. Maybe the internets will help me find out what happened.
A Husky-shaped hole in my heart.
I can't stay mad at you Husky! Tell me you still love me too!
Thanks for listening.
