The game begins normally, with the protoss sending one of his six original probes towards my base, for seemingly benign reasons.

OR SO IT SEEMED. While I was busy reading my 10rax reaper rush, Proberto had a more sinister plan in mind.

So I pick up everything, leaving his in-base forge, two pylons, and a cannon to sit unused and unwanted, while his probe gets an SCV-induced beatdown.

Remember the reaper rush? Yeah, that's still happening.

Ah yes, the old no-gateway reaper defense.

This is what I get for trying to macro and reaper harass with only 175 APM.


The protoss decides to take advantage of the preplanned failed-cannon-rush-into-no-gateway-reaper-defense 3 zealot timing push.

Clearly this was premeditated.


Unfortunately for him, Mr. Ghost has something to say about this.

A push and a counterpush later, protoss decides to go for a more standard transition, getting an expansion and preparing to macro up.

I get ready to crush his ground army, unaware of the impending void ray push.

And so we begin... the most dangerous game.


He shows up at my base with void rays, and manages two supply depots and a couple of scvs before the army arrives.

After warding off the initial push, I finally get around to our old friends, the "in-base" forge, pylons, and cannon.

He finds my "natural" expansion after a long period of ignorance, and decides to push onto it with his void rays.

Admiral, we have enemy ships in sector 47! IT'S A TRAP


After mercilessly slaughtering his void rays, I decide to take most of the accumulated army and attack his gold base, leaving behind a force to defend from any void ray harass.

This makes the Eagles defense look good.


He attempts to take the void rays he has been carefully constructing in his main and attack...

Cheater.


Finally, after so long, the battle had to be decided. Protoss had his army of zealot/immortal/void ray, while I had an army of marine/ghost. This is it. The final battle.

And so the Dominion is victorious over the protoss, despite their tricky tactics.

Also, Gretorp, thanks for coming up with a good counter to void ray harass which still packs a punch against the ground (especially zealots!).

Bahaha good writeup.
I remember somebody raging about cannon rushing and then having the Terran just lift and relocate in SCBW, this reminded me of it.
Void Rays are still overpowered, but good job with the build. Your captions are pretty funny.

Pretty cool game - I think if he had cancelled his cannon after you lifted and built one in his main then massed up ground units normally, he would've been able to win. After all, proxy pylon + forge is not as bad as floating a command center from main to nat + needing to rebuild gas... IMO...

I got hit by mass void rays today, but I got an expo up, made a billion turrets, and sniped all the pylons in his main with my marauders before getting together a movable anti-air force.

Yeah, as I semi-alluded to in the captions, if he had taken the gold, built a couple of cannons, then massed a ground army, he would have at least been at an army count advantage, though I've seen marine/ghost take on larger supply armies and not lose much. He went void rays though, which was a pretty poor choice (albeit a predictable one).

so you're meant to mass marines against void rays? VR's seem to kill them in 0.5 seconds each when i do that O_O

Well, you have more marines than you would marauders (less cost in terms of minerals and supply), and I had ghosts to support, who EMP and do a good amount of damage as well.
