So I know almost nothing about games for Wii, but my sister got a Wii for Christmas. I really don't want her playing mindless games like WiiSports.

Do you have any recommendation's for mind stimulating games?
Examples like wordshooter for PC where you shoot the asteroid when you spell the word correctly.

Edit: When I mean stimulating, I mean something that can test logic/math/anagram/academic skills.

I've played WII Tennis. it is stimulating. So is becoming a pro at starcraft. But it is stimulating in a different way.

you're an idiot if you think wii sports is mindless. Seriously, tennis is one of the most skill intensive games I've every played. Go master every game on wii sports, then you can complain about the games not being stimulating enough.

fuck new games
edit:
some suggestions: the Streets of Rage series, ToeJam and Earl series, and Earthworm Jim series were among the games that shaped my young mind.

it takes like a week to get pro in every game on wii sports.

You should pick up mario galaxy. it's pretty easy compared to the rest of the franchise, but the level design is sick and some of the puzzles are pretty mind warping

Though not well known, Zack and Wiki is probably one of the better (puzzle) games out for the Wii.

Comeon, she is only 9.

Get her Animal Crossing and Rayman Raving Rabbids: TV Party. Maybe a DS is more suitable for her (I used to do cosmetic DS game tests with a bunch of 9~12 girls and they loved it).
No more SKT1, it's SKP2.

* Depending on the firmware it is running *

BannerBomb the Homebrew Channel onto that mofo! Also read up on how to install a cIOS & format an external hard drive to WBFS... not that I condone piracy but that I haven't had this much fun with a console since I could burn music videos to disc and play them back on the Sega Dreamcast; Which, on an unrelated note, reminds me that I miss Phantasy Star Online & Quake III Arena... but not downloading music videos on 56k dial-up ("WHO PICKED UP THE PHONE!? IT WAS AT 99% GODDAMNIT!").

Seriously though if you're pretty tech savvy & comfortable attempting it you can easily [brick your system or] end up being able copy to & play games directly from the external hard-drive. All the home brew available is fairly impressive too if you're a geek. Some games, some stuff like running Linux & FTP off the system. You can put emulators on it & play all your favorite old games without having to repurchase them for the Virtual Console (you already bought them once didn't you?).

* Without hacking your Wii there is still plenty to enjoy. Off the top of my head: *

Mario Party & Smash Bros type games are always fun with groups of friends. New Super Mario Bros Wii is an awesome game and I'd recommend it to anyone & everyone. It becomes hard with more people playing but there are plenty of ways to get tons of lives just like in past Mario Bros games. If you've ever done yourself the favor of playing through Super Mario Bros 3 without using the flutes, do the same for yourself again by stomping NSMBW a new mudhole!

EDIT: I forgot the Contra & Exite Bike remakes. I <3 me some Excite Bike!

Metriod trilogy
Legend of zelda: Twilight Princess
Good old fashioned Action, Adventure, Puzzle games always good.
Basically the whole Metriod and Zelda(off virtual console) series are puzzle games and i remember being 8 and having one hard as time from time to time with the puzzles but not being bored in 10 mins with the game.

there's a Brain Academy game for the Wii, isn't there?

I've also heard good things about A Boy and His Blob. Basically it's a 2D platformer where you use your friendly blob to help you solve puzzles and get through the level.
