I blame this episode on Day9.

So I was reading this thread and I watched the first Day9 video listed. In that Daily titled, "Steal this build ZvP," Day9 goes through a Morrow replay where Morrow basically goes Spanishiwa style against a toss. Nothing but Queens and drones (and lings? and spine crawlers?) until ~40 supply? Well,

I might as well say this up front: This was a failed experiment.

In replay #1, was the best example, even though it failed on my part. Kind of boring to begin with, both teams content with macroing up, but it was a little funny with me going mass Queen, one of my opponents going mass Raven, and then getting carried to a victory when an ally went mass Battlecruisers. (Replays #2 & #3 are just complete failures of mine. Not pretty.)

This game was also different from the other two because in this, I was going mass Queen, mass Zergling, and shipping my excess gas to my teammates. And it's hard to tell how much this would have actually failed if me and Vassili were coordinated in our defense. First my lings go in to defend an expansion, then his bio ball goes in for the flank, and then my queens and excess lings fail a third time.

(I'm also curious to see how it would have turned out if I didn't lose all my queens by the time the fleet of Ravens came in to kill everything.)

The moral of this story: To be continued. I don't think I'm done experimenting with this just yet. But shipping my gas just isn't going to cut it (when I'm playing with random partners). I might try a mass queen, mass roach combo instead. Also, judging from Replay #2, this style only has a chance of working on specific maps. (Outpost = good. Extinction = bad.)

1. In 4v4s, has anyone ever successfully used a mass queen strategy?
2. What was your unit composition?
3. How did you use your hatch?
4. How many macro hatches (for more queens) did you create by the end?

You should have made way more hatcheries for mass queen.

2. Was mass queens, using gas on upgrades for melee/armour while teching to hive, then making ultras :D
3. I made queens and drones, with overlords from time to time, and any excess minerals with to spine/spores so I don't die
4. Think I had 6 hatches in total, off 3 bases

take note the only real testing I have with my queen fighting taktics are monobattles and reading the lol strategies for mass queen brood lord strats

Erm, mass Queens in 4v4 is not good. You normally rely on Transfuse micro to make your units unkillable in 1v1 scenarios but with 4 players army dps is sooooo high that the queens just melt. In 4v4 there isn't a ton of strategy. If you have an organised team just do a 4man 1base timing and melt everyone. In a pub game just mass Muta.

Do it anyways, just heal marauders/roaches of your team-mates, and lay creep tumours in your opponents' bases so they can't rebuild easily
