I usually camp along the way, but I'm assuming you don't have any camping gear.

Oh and try the beer in the Bay Area (look on Yelp for microbreweries). Another good resource is wikitravel.

Great set of tips! Yeah, we might have to sleep in the car a few times to save that cash..
Is Central Valley something you'd recommend for its scenery or just for "hey it could be fun seeing"? Cause it's kind of far from the original route we've planned out.

On the whole Blizzcon note: Could anyone say yar or nay on chances of acquiring a ticket right there?

Well the Central Valley really is just miles and miles of farmland. Don't know if you get the opportunity to see that in Sweden so if you want to see something thats somewhat unique and vitally important to California, it'd be the Central Valley. If it's really out of your way, just go down the 395--you'll probably get more out of your trip. Oh and you probably don't want to sleep in your car if you're driving down the 395; the weather on that side of the mountains can get pretty hot or cold. Just check the weather a couple days or a week in advance.

If you do sleep in the car, make sure to steal a couple pillows from the Hotel before you leave. They make all the difference in the world. A blanket wouldn't be a bad idea either.

if you were anywhere near this place called Shin Sen Gumi, I would totally recommend it. It's this japanese ramen place that's just heaven. It's not expensive at all, and you basically eat until you're full (unlimited noodle refills for 95 cents per refill- each refill has the original amount of noodles)

universal is worth a go, just because jurassic park is pretty fun.

That's actually great! Experiencing good food can sometimes be just as valueable as anything else.
God knows we don't have interesting enough restaurants back home......

At risk of being annoying; I have to ask again if anyone knows whether or not there's even a slight possibility to grab Blizzcon tickets right there, right then the 21st?
Aiming for the TL meetup, but could get pretty boring pretty quickly if everyone runs off to the convention hall while I'm sitting around drawing circles in the sand.....

I'm actually gonna do a shameless bump. Going away in 36 hours, some more info about blizzcon before getting on the plane would be great!
Don't have a chance to get any ticket via the website before going and the fact is I don't even know if we'll be close to Anaheim around the 21st, so buying tickets at the door is the only real option.

Is that even possible?

edit: Ok, reading thoroughly at the website confirms that there seems to be no way to buy tickets any other way than in advance. So that's that. Too bad.

o shi- i wanna see layzorbrade!! : )

ginntonic, the 5 is kind of boring hahah. i drive it when going from socal to norcal and vice versa and it's just rows and rows of agriculture or empty space, although there is this cattle ranch where there are hundreds and hundredssssss of cows -- it's ridiculous to see and smell haha. just take the scenic route : )

if you're going to go to a theme park, go to disneyland or six flags; forget the other ones >__>! although disneyland is kind of kiddy, you have to go to it at least once in your life

for norcal, use yelp.com and you're basically set! you might want to look into couch surfing if you want to save money!

Someone already said it - but if you've got a car and the weather is nice , drive all the way up Highway 1 along the coast. From LA to San Francisco. There's some really breathtaking coastline and also some interesting old spanish missions.

Coastal Oregon, Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver are also great and just further North.

Alternatively, head East. Utah, Arizona and Nevada are all fantastic states to visit.

edit: nearby LA, also consider driving to Joshua Tree national monument which is maybe 2 hours away. It's a nice day trip.

Spent my days with a woman unkind,
Smoked my stuff and drank all my wine.
Made up my mind to make a new start,
Going To California with an aching in my heart.
Someone told me there's a girl out there with love in her eyes and flowers in her hair.

Took my chances on a big jet plane, never let them tell you that they're all the same.
The sea was red and the sky was grey, wondered how tomorrow could ever follow today.
The mountains and the canyons started to tremble and shake
as the children of the sun began to awake.

Seems that the wrath of the Gods
Got a punch on the nose and it started to flow;
I think I might be sinking.
Throw me a line if I reach it in time
I'll meet you up there where the path
Runs straight and high.

To find a queen without a king,
They say she plays guitar and cries and sings... la la la
Ride a white mare in the footsteps of dawn
Tryin' to find a woman who's never, never, never been born.
Standing on a hill in my mountain of dreams,
Telling myself it's not as hard, hard, hard as it seems.

Disneyland's really worth visiting at this age?
I'm quite childish though, so what the heck! Are the tickets for Disneyland expensive?

lol, ok, I won't
My phone number over there should be +46 73 512 78 58, if it even works (it doesn't always in other countries)

Anywho, if anyone wants to meet up or anything, just call/text me!
Thanks for all the pointers so far - you're all great!
