This movie...
I was hooked by the trailers. The beginning was good as well and so my expectations were being fulfilled. Some men in black were introduced. My 'wtf' response was starting to register, but due to the element of horror / creepy music, I was still a bit intrigued.
Now introduce Rose Byrne into the movie and my enthusiasm shoots back up a little. At this point we are now about halfway through and the movie turns to complete shit. I mean what the fuck. The last ~45 min was almost so random, the only reason I kept watching was to see if there was actually going to be any explanation.
I do realize that the producer was probably trying to insinuate some destruction and rebirth of the innocent etc etc, but the ending was just so disgustingly bad and cheesy that in my franticness to write down how horrible it is, is making this a bit incomprehensible.
If you have seen this movie...please let me know that I'm not the only one who was so disgusted by the 2nd half.

I didn't watch it, but I was curious as to what it was about so I read a plot summary.
I honestly thought the last 1/4th or so of it was a joke that the writer was making on me.

+ Show Spoiler +The determinism really bothered me. If they could predict everything (including the major disaster in the end) what would be the point of putting humans on Earth (if the humans are only going to last a short span of time relative to planet).
EDIT: The angel/alien vagueness was a cop-out.

i really liked the movie for the most part. It gets you hooked. Like holy shit, what does this mean? What's going on? Holy shit there's more! Then it all goes to shitttttttt. ALIENS? ANGELS? SERIOUSLY? WTFFFFFFFFF! FFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

I didn't like this movie at all. Also, I think that Nicholas Cage isn't too great at acting.
|
Yeah, I agree. I thought it was a great movie, and some of the scenes really got some emotions worked up inside of me. But then the end rolls around and this whole religious theme starts kicking in, and it just leaves you feeling like the whole movie was just a troll.
Kinda frustrating, but aside from that, it was really pretty interesting.

The thing that sucked about this movie is that the trailer was misleading, it makes you think it's some huge mystery blockbuster but it really isn't at all, I loved the first half of the movie though, even if it was misleading the movie kind of went down hill from there.
|
I'm assuming people know there is spoilers for the movie in this thread, so here goes.
I think it was okay. They plane crash and subway scenes were fucking intense, they made the first half of the movie good. The second half was pretty lame, I agree. The ending was meh-ish, and I think they could have done a lot better.
Overall, I'd give it like a 7/10.

The woman drove a Mazda 3 so the movie was ok... until they crashed it.
But seriously the first 3/4 was definitely good... can't say anything about the last quarter lol...

I agree with this thread, the movie started off interesting, then turned into the biggest load of shit ive seen for a while.
|
I could swear there was a thread on TL before saying how this movies was semi interesting until the very end of it where you literally choke on popcorn and claim it to be sick and shocking. I havent seen it yet, but considering kdogs reaction i might consider watching it, he mustve misunderstood something( speaking from previous experience).

except the little boy o.O

Nicolas Cage is in it?
FUUUuuuu-
I havn't seen it but i dont get why people are flaming it for its plot. I mean most people in the world actually believe in ridiculous shit... gods with 4 arms, 72 virgins in the afterlife, and a man that comes back to life after 3 days, but not this?
|
okay ... here's my thought + Show Spoiler +the ending blows hard ... I mean, wtf with going through all the shits just to realize that the whole world got it up the ass? I mean, if it's not because Nick Cage was acting, i would give a 1/5 ... okay may be 2/5 because the first half isn't that bad and the plane crash scene was pretty much kicking ass

Was the ending bad because it has everyone die?
Or was it bad because it was so anti-climatic?

i dont wanna be like a boss

It was pretty lame.
I mean, usually I'd expect "guy knows the future. Something bad's going to happen. How is the character going to save the day using this knowledge?"
But instead it was "oh shit we're going to die." and they died.

I agree that the premise and the first part were awesome, but the ending made me want to strangle babies.
Also it reminded me a whole lot of 2012: Doomsday.

i thought the movie was HORRIBLE! i really don't like movies with Nicholas Cage. they usually turn out bad. sure he got an academy award for best award (way back in 1995) but none of his more recent (post 2000) movies have been any good...
|
yeah I wasn't a fan of the movie, only decent thing in it was Beethoven's 7th symphony, but even then it wasn't a good mix with this movie.

airplanes fall and trains flip and cage tries to act epic in those scenes and then he finds out everyone's gonna die and basically goes "meh" and then everyone dies <- my idea of the movie

Em yes, this question is actually the whole point of the movie.

The movie was trash.
BUT. The scene where the plane crashes looked fucking awesome in the theater and was nice and loud. Really cool sequence.

My thoughts exactly.
What a crappy ending lol, makes no sense.

I was expecting the troll end to completely destroy my good impression of the rest of the movie, so I was not that disappointed. If I had expected the movie to stay consistently strong, I would 've felt ripped off for sure.

just because of the epic CGI scenes I would give this movie 2/10. All in all I would prefer having a syphilis than watching this movie again. Its the absolute peak of the inability of the Hollywood writers and directors,in the past 3 years, to come up with interesting and original story.
|
I wasn't a huge fan of the ending, but I liked the movie overall.. Certainly better than most out there imo.
|
Rose Byrne is so cute
|
for some reason i really enjoyed this movie, but the ending was really nostalgic for me so i dunno, definitely one of those weird ones
|
nicholas cage possibly the worst actor of all time.. and the rest of the movie was at most average
|
this is one of the last films i saw in cinema, and i have to say it was distinctly average. tbh, i haven't seen any particularly good films since like The Dark Knight, i don't know why they're so hard to come by.
