So I was thinking today just how angry I would be if at Blizzcon they gave out a beta key for Diablo 3, or even worse, a WoW expansion. Don't get me wrong, I love Diablo 2, but Starcraft 2 is the game I'm most looking forward to.
I did a quick search through the Blizzard/WoW forums and I would say most people are expecting a Diablo 3 beta key simply because Blizzard has given out SC2 keys for so long. This got me worried and kind of thinking.
I recalled that when I purchased my Blizzcon tickets it asked what your favorite 'universe' was. The 3 options were, of course, Diablo, Warcraft, and Starcraft.
The only reason I can even guess as to why they would put this is to decide which beta key you get. Blizzard loves cranking out WoW expansions so I'd expect one to be announced int he next year. People who don't like RTS or mmo's probably like Diablo 3... and then there is the hardcore SC fans like myself.
The best way to make everyone happy would be to give out different beta keys based on which game you like the most.
This is what I'm hoping anyway.
Does anyone have any solid information about this? Someone said that they announced last Blizzcon they weren't giving away SC2 beta keys at this one. I sure hope that isn't true...
TL:DR; Beta keys based off 'favorite universe' option when buying tickets?

I dunno mate. Is there any point in speculating? I'm not trying to tell you to shut up and go away, just genuinely curious, if someone did give you solid information about it, will that make you do something different?

I heard Blizzcon releases the beta keys for the closest beta, which IMO won't be SC2.

It would make me stop worrying about it. The main reason I signed up for Blizzcon (took off work, driving 18 hours each way, bought tickets, motel room, etc etc) is to be guaranteed into the SC2 beta.
Obviously they aren't there to cater to me, but would be happy to know for sure.

I hope the "Favorite Universe" option certainly means something. All my friends put WC and I put SC.
Maybe Blizzard assumed that most of the attendees were WoW players and could give out SC2 beta keys to the few people who are there for Starcraft.

Blizzcon is a few weeks away, it would be funny if they launched the SC2 beta before it ;p

The bolded part is something that leaves me bewildered. I just cannot comprehend by what logic people seem to think this.
1. WotLK keys were available for BlizzCon 07 and WWI 2008. Since SC2 keys have only been available at BlizzCon 2008 so far, there is a high chance the SC2 beta keys will be available for at least one more event.
2. Diablo III still lacks a lot of content and 2 full classes have not been announced. For this reason, having Diablo III beta keys already available this August seems premature.
3. WotLK has not yet undergone all the major patches Blizzard has promised for it. For this reason, it is impossible that there would already be beta keys for the new expansion.
Considering the above and the fact that the SC2 beta has not started yet, I personally would be suprised if the beta keys this year are for anything but SC2.

Diablo 3 is still in early development. I am guessing that Blizzcon 2010 will happen much before Diablo 3 has a working build.

It hasn't meant anything in previous years.
