Computers are outdated even before they hit the shelves. There will always be louder speakers or bigger monitors to replace the old ones. Keyboards come and go. The only thing you will miss when it's gone is your mouse.
The mouse that you play StarCraft with is the mouse you want to use till you die. It feels perfect. Perfect size, perfect weight, perfect everything. You become so accustomed to it, it becomes an extension of yourself. I want to click there. Thoughtless. Effortless.
A few weeks ago my 6 year old ball mouse died. It came with my Dell computer and I've used it since the day I hooked it up, even when I built a new computer I refused to give it up. All the DPI in the world could suck it, my mouse kicked ass. Then one day, a few weeks ago, it just started skipping over to the sides of the screen and getting stuck. I'd move slowly hoping it would track. Nothing. Come on, you can do it. Nothing.
"It won't be so bad", I told myself, "I finally have an excuse to get a new one", but I didn't want a new one, I wanted my old mouse back.
For a couple weeks now I've been using my laptop mouse, which I loath, while weighing my options for a new mouse. I've also been putting together a computer for my sister because her's up and died. Today, we headed over to the local Fry's to pick up a case because shipping for those things are a bitch. While we were there I considered looking at the mouse section but quickly dismissed the idea, I don't know why. During those few seconds, however, I managed to think aloud, "I need a new mouse". God I missed my old mouse.
Wait a second, my sister's old computer was also a Dell and I've never seen her use her Dell mouse before.
"Wait, do you still have your old mouse...?"

I also had a ball mouse, but I didn't like it at all. I love my HP mouse though. It's not fast and it doesn't have great DPI, but it works.

lol I think I have the exact same one, though the logo isn't as worn down as yours. I've been through a lot with it nonetheless though

However, you're absolutely right. It becomes an extension of your body and part of your will. I'm using a Lachesis right now but since I'm visiting my cousin for an extended period of time, I carried my laptop with SC on it (of course) with my old Logitech MX518 which stood by me for my competitive Counter Strike years. It felt great using it. (Someone is going to make a dirty joke for sure, prove me wrong.)

Yeah, I like my MX500 a lot so I'm hoping to get my hands on an MX518 when I eventually upgrade. Been using it since 2002 and still works fine.

Damn those are the mice they have at my school. Doesn't work for Starcraft at all (at least not for me :l)

interestingly, my old-old mouse is labeled logitech on the bottom while my new-old mouse is labeled dell. so i guess at some point dell just bought the rights to the logitech mouse and started producing it themselves. hopefully it is just as reliable.

I've still got my original Intellimouse Explorer. I've had to fix the cable twice now, but it still runs. When I got a Razer (thanks for sponsoring TSL) I got a Deathadder, cause the shape is similar, but the Intellimouse is still my day to day work/surf mouse. Love

That looks exactly the same as my mouse, although it says it's fujitsu siemens it says Logitech on the bottom. I agree, it's an amazing mouse!

I assume you tried to open it an clean it? If it's going to the side, it's usually a hair that's blocking the led (or laser, whatever) light in the mouse. And yes, I know it's a ball mouse, but they also have led lights in it.

That's the mouse you use? It's all right. They had over 9,000 of those back at college.
I remember in high school a friend paid me somewhere around $30 cash to buy him three of those mice on ebay and ship them to my house. It cost about $17 for all of them. I figured all the times he bummed a dollar in wal-mart was now paid for.
But that was all around 2001. What the hell are you using a ball mouse these days for? Laser mice are cool.

i remember that my ball mice would always get dirty. I would have to take out their ball and clean it and then clean the actual inside of it after that. It was so gross.

LOL I think your laptop mouse is the same mouse as mine! LX3 Logitech? I don't really like it because it is pretty choppy movements but I've gotten used to it's feel since I got it last year and don't want to bother getting a new one... Grats on getting a new-old mouse! :D
