You could allow heritages, like some international events do. I don't think the Olympics does, but I think WBC and some others allow non-natives if they've got some blood in them.

It's not unreasonable to think permanent residents might be able to qualify though. I'm pretty sure when I was playing CS full on and participated in WCG quals, permanent residents were allowed to participate (in Australia). I could be wrong, but I remember a lot of teams with non-citizen permanent residents playing.

wcg singapore this year only had 8 participants! I had signed up for it but then i realized I probably could not attend. problem is saturday is a pretty busy day at my skateshop but then I saw the brackets 2 days ago and I lucked out with an easy road to the finals so I got a friend to help out at the shop. Nirvana aka cow recently came back to singapore and he rents a room above the shop so naturally i made him sign up for wcg as well and sacrifice some poker time to play broodwar again. So its a busy day at the shop and before I know it we are running really late. We jump in the car but it would not start cos the battery is dead wtf. so then we had to run up the road and get a cab to funan. We get there kinda late but somehow we are still the first ones there! We wait around a bit and then a bit more and jukebox shows up. So its the 3 of us...... and our opponents all did not show up! What that meant was that I was 2nd, just by turning up! We waited another hour before Nirvana and jukebox were allowed to play each other to determine who would play me in the finals. Juke being the favorite did not disappoint by beating Nirvana 2-1 and then crushing me 2-0. So in summary, out of 8 players, 3 guys showed up and jukebox won.

R3condite: I think konadora is a PR (Permanent Resident), i think he should have been allowed to compete in this case since it is pretty much a citizenship but oh well.
