after 8 years of smoking, i finally decided to quit.
However, it was a lot harder than i thought it would be^^

All of my co-workers thought i was grumpy today when i really didn't feel grumpy~~

Anybody got any tips on how to efficiently deal with withdrawal symphtons ?

I don't have any advice, but I'd like to say good on you for quiting. Definitely a step in the right direction and onto a healthier lifestyle (hopefully)

You quit smoking for one day? Am I reading this right..

Either way, a day not smoking is one less day putting tons of toxins into your lungs.

As far as staying clean, the best way to keep yourself from wanting to do it again will be to simply replace one habit with another (hopefully healthier) one. Such as chewing gum or something. If you normally go home and eat junk food and sit around all day and want to change, switch your habit with jogging, and after a while you'll start feeling guilty when you don't jog. I don't mean to call it a "habit" as much of an addiction, but I hope it helps a little bit at least :3

Well I think I phrased myself wrongly..
It's not so much i want to smoke,I'm really done with it/sick of it.
But my actions towards other people might suggest I'm grumpy i dunno ^^

It's always nice to hear some support^^

Edit. And yes, it may only be for one day so far, but my mindset has changed so that it doesn't tempt me as much to take one last cigarette anymore.
Look forward, but think back..

mad props. start working out, preferrably cardio and you won't be able to start smoking again, because your results will suck

The cardio only helps relieve the tension in your body from not smoking. I jog 3~ miles a day and smoke a pack a day and because I've always done them, there has never been a change in results.

Cardio and pushups (rage ups) will help not feel so hostile , even if you don't notice it.

and avoid starcraft, losing a game will make you want to choke some nerds.

Well.. I don't think I will do cardio since my goal is to gain some weight, since i've always been skinny ~~

I will probably do some, but my entire goal is to get bigger really, with some more work out~

oh, and i was 16 at the time i started and well, i don't really know why i started.. it was cool ?
but after 8 years, lots of money, and a cough that is starting to sound nasty it's enough

cardio is just to keep you from being a giant prick. I'm not talking about a healthy lifestyle.

It is a withdrawl tip. Also eat apples, the feeling against your teeth and the motion will help too. Don't ask me why =).

I've never smoked. But according to my dad who successfully quit after smoking for 20 years, the answer is: EAT!

You'll prolly want to exercise to burn the extra calories you're gonna gain from stopping ^^

see that you occupy your mind constantly. If you don't have free time to think about smoking then it gets alot easier to quit the habit.

I usually snack when I get withdrawal. Not a good idea. You just gotta power through, after the first two or three weeks its usually done (I've quit several times). You just gotta be on your guard for that day when you suddenly get an insane urge to smoke.
Excuse me hun, but what is your name? Vivian? I woke up next to you naked and, uh, did we, um?

Try the nicotine patches. They really help, I've heard. Unfortunately, I can't afford them.

I'm quitting right now too, and chewing gum seems to help, as well. lol.

Good luck to you.

i read that banana helps the withdrawal because it have some kind of chemical..

digged up..
quote: "Smoking &Tobacco Use: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal."

I quit cold Turkey myself after many years smoking.

Find something new to fill the void. After meals is the hardest, or any other time your body is accustomed to. Try to distract your body directly after a meal. Substitute smokes with fruit. At work a stress ball or something for your hands is quite helpful.

Doing 20 pushups whenever the urge comes strong is quite useful. The key is distractions and to be extra careful in the super hard times (after meal).
Chance favors the prepared mind.

PrinceOfControl FIGHTING! Smoking is a really REALLY bad habit. I am glad as a son of a smoker that you quit. Congrats on not feeling grumpy, remember TL is here to back you up.

Suggestion: If you feel a slight urge to smoke again, post it on TL, and we will start e-yelling at you, and then u wont smoke ever

but yeah anyway GJ MAN!

i heard that having something shaped like a cigg to play around with in your hands is a good way to help quit smoking.

examples are

cinnamon sticks
pens
pocky snacks

etc

anyway good luck and keep it up

You're only on the first day, you don't really feel grumpy, and this is already harder than you thought it would be? You've got to expect to go through some hell in the coming days- quitting smoking isn't easy at all (for most people), or the cigarette companies would not be the enormous industries that they are. Whatever you do, don't give up. You've taken the first and most important step, but realize it could be extremely difficult and be prepared. Nicotine patches, gum, inhalers, etc. can be helpful. Of course, a lot of people subsequently get hooked on THOSE, but the substitues certianly aren't as unhealthy as smoking itself.

Good luck. Think of the money you'll save and the average years added to your life as motivation. ^^

What kind of withdrawal symptoms are you having?

Maybe you should try playing WoW, I've seen many of my friends get hopelessly addicted to that. It's debatable whether WoW addiction is healthier than smoking though.

Most times when I see people get off one harmful addiction it's usually because they get addicted to something else, whether that's harmful or beneficial. What kind of hobbies are you interested in? Maybe you could delve into one of your interests?

Coincidentally, I quit the same time as you, although I am not as certain as you about the success yet, because I have tried to quit a few times before, sometimes I managed it for months as still ended up smoking again.
Quitting needs to incorporate a serious change of lifestyle for most people imho: it will help you keep your mind off of it, to see the positive changes in your life sooner, to make sure you don't get as often into the same situations where you used to enjoy smoking all the time (like when drinking beer or having a stressful day, or going out etc.)
Well, gl to both of us anyway
