I just got a new logitech mx518 mouse to replace my broken razer diamond back (rather disappointed with that mouse but that's besides the point). I bought it because of its ability to change dpi on the fly, I have two monitors and I like a nice high DPI when viewing my desktop because its so much space to navigate, but obviously want it a lot lower for a game with 640x480 rez(starcraft) I was wondering if the majority of pro korean players play at 400 or 800 dpi. I know logitech optical minis are their mice of choice but I've heard mixed things about their speed.

2000 here! ROFLROFL

seriously progamers play with generally low sensitivity. Go with what you're most comfortable with.
yes.

I didn't know the 518 could change dpi on the fly, and I thought it was a 1600 dpi mouse

and the obvious answer is whatever setting you feel comfortable with. 90% of progamers use the mini optical that doesn't even have dpi settings

Haha ok I guess I'll just stick with 800. I was trying out 400dpi (because I heard that's what a lot of Koreans play at) and it felt pretty weird. In order to move at the same speed I'm usually at I had to move my whole forearm rather than just my wrist which would probably get tiring pretty quickly. I guess DPI really is just a personal preference.

lol I'm used to playing with 1600 I tried 2000 but didn't feel comfortable XD

Edit: my mouse's default settings keep it at 800dpi which makes me feel like I'm moving in slow motion XD

?

If you pick 400 dpi then make the mouse speed higher?

I use 8/11 in windows no acceleration obviously. I think logitech mx510 is 400 dpi without drivers and 800 dpi with drivers, and I don't install the drivers. I also have the mini optical and it's basically the same speed as mx510.

Doesn't adjusting windows mouse speed make the mouse move an amount different from its native dpi and thus skip pixels and make it a lot more inaccurate? And yeah of course mouse acceleration is off.

Well yes I found that the minimum I can move is by 2 pixels which is bad for ms paint. However I don't find it a problem in starcraft.

mine is at 800 and I like it... not too fast, my mouse actually moves pretty slow.

I have same mouse and I'm using 500... I just don't see how high dpi helps in a game like starcraft. Wouldn't you miss your units a lot when you try to click them?

Sorry to jack your thread but I have a quick question and I don't wanna make a separate blog for it...

Is there a way to set ALT + TAB to your macro button? Whenever I try it just tabs me out of my Razer customizer program.

someone correct me if im wrong but i think the pros almost all play at 800 dpi since thats what the mini optical is defaulted to.
http://www.scan.co.uk/product.aspx?ProductId=14236

I used to play at 2000 dpi, but i went down to 800, and my micro improved a lot. Still, I do wonder if 400 would help, but It just seems too slow -_-;

just use the speed at which youre comfortable with. i dont see the difference in 400 800 1200 1600 or 2000 dpi but only that its faster or slower. i put my mx518 to the max cuz its much easier to remember and change when im playing with someone else's comp and if someone changes my settings, and so i can move the cursor much faster and easier than having to move my whole arm. ive gotten used to fast sensitivities and wouldnt go any slower.

Don't just use the highest you can. Although tbh 800 would be fine. I use the logitech mini optical on highest settings....work it out if you want lol, I have less dull things to do :p
