The other day I discovered Free Download Manager and it's easy to use flv downloading engine.
You drag&drop an URL directly from your browser to it's dropbox and if it's an URL from a site like youtube, the program starts downloading the video and automatically names the file with the video's title.
I've been using it the last few days for downloading masses of VODs and then watching them in peace from my gom player.
However, a cute follow-up idea of downloading HQ videos crossed my mind. I've spent the last few minutes trying to figure out how to directly link to HQ videos, but I didn't succeed.
I'm wondering if ppl around here know more about this.
Is there a way to make the download manager link directly to HQ videos? Coz so far, I always end up downloading the low quality version.
I love you if you can help. fuck you if you cant.
EDIT: I found a pretty good solution.

Did you try google? It returns many results (which I haven't gone through).

Google DownloadHelper Firefox addon. after that whenever you're on a youtube page, go to tools -> downloadhelper -> media -> there should be something like [HQ35] (video name) if that particular video is available in HQ. click on that and it downloads the HQ version. Dont know if theres any easier way of doing this.

you should get this: https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/3006
with this you can choose which version you want. It also has many other features and you can DL videos from almost every site and not just YT. It's just a very small button in ur top bar @ firefox.
Best plugin ever after adblock plus
LOL i just noticed that the screenshot of the addon ARE SO OUTDATED AND BAD. hahaha

‘&fmt=18′ or ‘&fmt=22′ at the end of the url

I know about Video Downloader, but it's not as good for massive downloads.
I'm specifically trying to find links I can enter into a download manager.

I managed to find an acceptable solution.
This site: http://keepvid.com/
You enter any youtube(or other site) link and it offers you a direct link for download, both low quality and high quality version.
Then I simply drag that link to the free download manager and the download starts.
thx for help

how is that easier than download helper?

Therefore, you cant: - browse while downloading (or limit your download speed in general) - resume broken downloads - make full use of your download speed (necessary on occasions)

There are many solutions to this.
If you want to make sure, get Firebug for Firefox. Works 100% for all sites. Hit F12 to bring it up and enable Net monitoring for Youtube. Then just watch the HQ video and on the Net tab you will see your browser downloading a huge video file. Right click -> Copy Link Location and download with the tool of your choice.

You can just directly download them like mp4 which is what you'd get if you downloaded the fmt=22

this is what i use - the site is pretty clunky in terms of navigating around.
i also suggest this tool
splicd.com
it let's you pick from 0:30 to 0:40 seconds in the video for example which you can share with other people. it generates the link for you as well.
