And yeah, the last second race picking is BS. Would it be remotely possible for Blizz to release a patch that'll lock races during the countdown? I know it's not likely, but one can always dream. Hopefully this last second race picking won't be possible in SC2.
Doesn't WC3 tell you which races were picked during the loading screen? That's one of the... like... two things WC3 has over SC

The solution to this is early scout. With all this cheese in ICCUP its a good idea to scout early anyway.
Same here, always staring opponents race incase switching. Annoying thing is that race can be different because bug. Especially ZvT and opponent picks Z. Hello 4 pool etc, when I 12 hatch.

LOL this happened to me too. The same guy too..Jerusalem!

lol i actually like racing picking. i play protoss and zerg is my strongest mu

Can't this problem be solved with maps that print the two players' races at the start of the game?

Who cares if they do whatever they don't know what you're getting either. Have fun getting banned every game by babies who don't want to play against random. I had to start trying to main a race it's so bad, but the problem is the game completely changes even in the same matchups... Most people don't know what builds to do vs random, so I was able to get away with not knowing any real builds either... Now I just get owned by anyone who knows a build

this happened to me occasianally in team-games, but sucked the other way around:
host just happened to think 'k lets go without informing anyone' i was afk came back as i saw countdown going down (was random still), tried to pick zerg, it showed zerg, i am like 'whew, close one', but instead i ened up being protoss or terran (cant tell about the incidents when i got zerg cause that obviously wouldnt have upset me since i CHOSE zerg in the first place) WTF
guess its a bug in the bnet client/scbw engine that these kids are abusing with some 3rd-party software, that lets you determine what you appear to be and what you get in fact
on a sidenote: in metal's 2on2 reppack there is a conversation with metal's ally where his ally says there is some chinese program out there that utilizes exactly this function, dont know whether he was joking or not though...

I'm pretty sure this is physically impossible to pull off if the other person is closely watching your race during the countdown. Sometimes during the countdown they will switch races at the almost last second, so I'll try and switch too, so I see my race as Zerg in the last second or so of the pregame lobby but when the game starts I'll be terran, I assume they can't see this change because it's happened a lot and no one has ever said anything.
|
Jello, it's a bug. You literally won't see the change, even if you're careful like me and stare at your opponent's race every game.

soju did this to me. Thought i was playing zvz. I oppened 12 gas 11 pool against terran. Was not fun.

Before christmas? No way in hell. They just released the 3000 a while ago, the economy is bad, and PSP sales aren't amazing. The price will also be around $250+, because that's where the PSP started and it had a lot less features.

That's strange, people try this on me all the time so I always look at their races till the last possible second and never once has the person been anything other than the race they had at the very end of the pregame lobby, I thought that bug only worked in that if you change your race at the last possible second, you see a change but the other player doesn't and that change in race doesn't take effect when the game starts.

WarCraft 3 also has a matchmaking system.
Does anyone know if StarCraft 2 will have matchmaking for FFA?

Tested it a few times vs comp and I can pick T or P (and possibly random) and it looks like I'm Z on the countdown. Did the ToT)OjKa( thingy.

Yep this is a pretty old bug. Like people have said before, just have the racepick window open when the game starts and I BELIEVE you wind up being random regardless of the race you had selected. It doesn't need anything like 3rd party software however.

Is this so? I remember playing a guy who I was SURE picked Zerg but ended up being Terran.
I 2 Gated him anyway and kicked his ass rofl

i always say "race?" in lobby, wait for them to pick, and if they change during the countdown i leave.
