1th of april the new law "Ipred" started in Sweden. It gives the music / movie companies law support to track down downloaders IP-adress and such to ultimately sue them. This is a huge threat against the integrity and it has been debated for months in Sweden between everyone, on TV, EVERYWHERE.

The sad thing is that the politicians think of the Internet as a toy and as the downloads as "bad kids". If the kids are bad you can just take the toy away as a punishment. But today Internet is not a toy, everyone today do their bills and pretty much everything on the Internet. This is something that the extremely old politicians doesn't realize. By doing this, they ATTACK our whole generation!

It's time to fight back:

Translation on subtitles:
+ Show Spoiler +

"Log in! Check the forums!"

"Pirates, bloggers, dear peers!"

"I see in your eyes, the same panic you get when your broadband fails you"

"One day may come, when we don't dare to download any more"

"When no one is seeding and Piratebay is shut down"

"But it is not this day!"

"In a time where greedy music companies are allowed to hunt us"

"When the free Internet that we has grown up with is overthrown, in debrises of ones and zeros."

"But it is not this day, this day we will fight back!"

"For all that you has downloaded with your Internet"

"I tell you, stand up for our community. Open your networks!"

More and more people has started removing all their "router defenses" (if you know what I mean) and naming it "Ipredia" so that soon everyone will soon be able to log into anyones wireless network anywhere! Then the companies cannot sue anyone because they don't know that it was you that downloaded! (could be anyone that connected to your wireless network)

FIGHT! For the Internet!!!!

Arghhh Pirates Fighting!

Really though thats actually a scary thought although there are ways to mask your IP the Danger of being sued could outway the risk nonetheless.

EDIT: is this just in Sweden or is this something thats being debated worldwide? and how far would The Music / Movies jurisdiction go for sueing people? but I can see how if this goes through in one area of the world the idea can spread worldwide.

If you mask your IP you cannot be sued in any way. Sweden has the strongest hackers in the world We have every possible information there is about this (even more than the politicians)

Government passing laws to catch criminals? The nerve of some people!

Next thing you know it will be illegal to walk into a store and take things without paying.

They are allowed to check your email, your letters, everything. They don't need to have any evidence that you have been downloaded. Just do what they want to.

They are allowed to check your email, your letters, everything. They can even hack your harddrive without permission. They don't need to have any evidence that you have been downloaded. Just do what they want to.

It's like you walked down the street and suddenly two police officers runs over to you and searches you for crack, or one day when you come home the police has searched your house.

This is information that would have been nice to include in the O.P.

Or at least a link.

well im assuming even with a masked IP there will be a way to gather the information as you connext to a seeder or something of that sort but im just speaking in theory i guess im by no means a pro at this sort of thing i just pirate with pride

You can also use a special proxy that masks your IP. Many people are using these today because of the law.

The information I wrote about is enough that anyone would think "discusting". How about I put it this way. Police would be able to search your house before they even believe a crime has been committed.

The info you provided says they could just track down the IP addresses of known downloaders to sue them, which I don't see as a problem.

But I will stop in hopes of not derailing your thread.

Sorry if I did at all.

This is becoming a more common policy debate worldwide. Obama said he is in favour of keeping the internet the same as it has been but Canada has been leaning in the opposite direction. Not to this extent where people will be sued for copyright infringments (although that bill is already made and just waiting to be implemented by the Harper government) but just with the CRTC allowing ISPs to "traffic shape" or "internet throttle". This basically allows them to slow people down who use certain services (bittorrent) and in the future can lead to them slowing peoples access to websites not affiliated with them. IE: if TL isn't in link with rogers and your a Canadian with cogeco, TL loads slower for you than google.

Best way to fight is to voice your opinions (in mass) to the proper government authorities. For Canada it's the CRTC, Iunno what in Sweden though.

It's pretty long but I'll translate it soon hehe.

It's about the Swedish government talking about the Ipred law and about integrity. The Pirate party member comes and starts talking for integrity and democracy. The "normal" party members is like "But the American movie/music industriy is too strong!" The pirate party leader is like "You were chosen by the society! Then why are you here?" and most of them answers "Well, not to lose our carreer!" The pirate tells everyone to stand up against the big music companies and In the end everyone is shouting "integrity/freedom/democracy" etc ^^

?! really ..wtf.. do you think that could happen? Canada has always been really chill with downloaders...i hope it'll stay this way. im a huge downloader. i've probably downloaded for more than $1million worth of stuff over 10 years.

like everyone who's with Bell, i get ISP throttled for about 9 hours per day (max 30k/s) otherwise its prettyfast. but i dont really care because its all about hard drive space...how much can you have..
i dont really care about being throttled but i think the internet has to stay the same as it is right now, i.e. as free as possible. some stuff you just can't buy...for instance, im addicted to BBC documentaries, theoretically i could actually pay for those, but i mean...common. it'd be hard as hell to shop around and physically get your hands on all the titles that you want...

Being throttled sucks and enable to throttle they do DPI (Deep packet inspection) to see what kind of data it is. It's more invasive than you think. Harper tried to bring the bill I mentioned in in 06 and there was a huge uproar about it and it got pushed back. He's now trying to sneak it in under the shadows of all the other shit that's been going on. Our media sucks and doesn't really cover it that well but look at CBC for net neutrality issues. It's lame ;P and the CRTC sucks

Dude, being throttled?....again...who cares.. like many many canadians ....or at least quebecers, i get throttled at max 30k/s for most of the day. its not really an issue when you know you can launch your torrents just before you go to bed, and wake up the next morning with 10+ new GB's.

as far as DPI goes, again...who cares. i dont give a fuck if they know exactly what im DLing, everyone DL's the same stuff. Music, porn , and movies/videos. as long as they let me do it.

I just hope Harper wont be able to pass that bill that would let companies sue people for copyrights infringements. That's really the only issue.
