Problem
*I can't access my router homepage to change any settings. When I enter the password/username in, It won't accept anything

*If I reset my router, will I need to reset the entire network? Or will it just reset enough so I can access my router homepage again

*My router homepage is 70.101.96.195/ and not the default 196.168.1.1 for some reason and I don't know why.

*I don't have a static IP address or anything. I can't forward any ports until I can fix this problem so help!

When/if I reset my router, will I have to "create" the network and network password and put it on all the computers via memory stick again? Or will I still have the network saved

no... and if the 30 sec thing doesn't work try unplugging it for 30 sec and then try again.. post again if more help in needed

I've had some router problems lately, can you tell us what kind of router do you own ?

Also, try accessing http://192.168.0.1. , a lot of routers have this homepage. If you do reset your router, you usually need to setup the external adress, gateway and DNS servers, but that's in case you have a static Ip adress.

I unplugged it for 30 seconds. Restarted it and held the reset button for 30 seconds and nothing happened. The first step in fixing my problem methinks is to get my homepage back to 196.168.1.1 instead of this new homepage.

Btw how do I know if the reset successfully worked or not?

* I Don't have a static IP address
* I tried shit with OpenDNS if that has anything to do with it

whatever. My point is that that's not the router setup page anymore. 70.101.96.195, a compeltely random differnet thing is my router setup page and it won't let me login using anything

70.101.96.195 is just your public IP, same way as logging in as your private IP, except you either forgot your password or ran open wireless and someone else changed your password. In which case read the guide for how to do a factory reset.

start run cmd type ipconfig, in your browser type whatever ip is listed as Default Gateway

depending on your ISP, for verizon its strictly 192.168.1.1 so your router cant have the same IP so instead its 2.1 or 1.2, whichever works. but for your issue, you should try to reset your router.

1 reset router
2 check manual or manufactor website for default ip
or
press windows+r, type cmd, typ ipconfig, gateway is your router ip adress (if you dont have a static ip adress atleast)
3 then you should be able to enter

Also in the guide with the factor reset if your router had a default password it should be on the router somewhere. You should always change default passwords becuase anyone with just a half a mind and a list can try a couple common passwords and hit yours.

well yes but I've already held it down for 30 seconds and it hasn't done shit. I have tried doing it while being unplugged. The wierd thing about the router that might be not making the reset effective is that my Linksys router is connected to another router that is connected to the DSL line.....that router doesn't have a reset button though

You have to do it while it's powered on, or how is it going to know the reset is pressed?
