I personally never touched a cigarette again after I found out my grandfather had emphysema. Maybe it's because I had almost drowned as a kid, but the thought of dieing by literally slowly suffocating to death made me think smoking kind of wasn't worth it.

So most of the time there wouldn't even be any jitteriness to really get rid of if you didn't smoke in the first place. They only "relax" you when you already have a dependence. This tax will be good in stopping people to consume these cancer-sticks. Smoke weed everyday! EDIT: I don't want people to get me wrong. I am 100% for self-sovereignty and hate the idea of having a body-babysitter. However, the death statistics for cigarettes are absolutely ridiculous.

But trust me, if i could go back to the 80'-90' i would do the same again. Smoking everywhere you want, smoking in trains, airplanes, restaurants, office, smoking frogs and babys, smoking heros on tv, Those were the days of smoking. Now the magic is gone. No wars, no racial riots, no "do or die" attitude. One might think we want to live forever. in reality no one else notices how cool smokers are besides smokers themselves also i used to smoke 2 packs of reds a day quit one day 3 years ago and havent smoked since

I'll admit it was alluring when I was younger, but now it just looks gross and stupid. I wonder if people just starting high school feel the same way, or if the allure is 100% the 14 year old "I want to look like I don't give a fuck" attitude. I guess it's probably more of a social crutch than anything else.

In general though, I think it prevents people who haven't smoked before, but are potential smokers, to reconsider given the fact of high prices which will prevent them from getting addicted. For the current addicts though, well, the tax will help the economy... =/
