Nope. Half of TL obviously don't listen to music. Dumb, dumb, dumb. On March 16 2009 06:42 boesthius wrote: especially considering death metal takes talent to create compared to what's in this blog That depends...there's as much bad death metal as there is good. Even then, most of it is only good within itself...there aren't very many standouts that can cross genre boundaries...meaning, if you're not a fan of death metal in the first place, you wouldn't like it. Exceptions are the likes of Meshuggah (which you can only immediately call DM imo), and...well...that's about it...lol. Death metal isn't an accessible genre of music, as it goes out of its way to not be all feel-good or relatable...which is the type of music the OP seems to tend towards. You'll find just as much, if not more, technical music in any genre...and in fact a lot of death metal isn't particularly technical at all...just fast (the dumb bonehead bands).

Punk: Iggy Pop/The Stooges, good cd to listen to would be Fun House. Dead Kennedy's, Bad Brains, Buzzcocks if you want a deeper look in that genre. I'm not a huge punk fan so I know there are some that I should listen to but it's just not my style ![]() Grunge: Pixies, start with the cd "Doolittle" Indie: Neutral Milk Hotel, In the Aeroplane over the Sea is a beautiful album. Arcade Fire, Funeral is their only "great" album. Neon Bible i found to be pretty average Indie has grown too large to be really useful anymore as a name you can call it Lo-Fi if you rather ![]() Fusion: Frank Zappa (start with Hot Rats), Return to Forever, Miles Davis (Listen to Bitches Brew now, I mean it) New-Wave: Talking Heads (Too many great cds so uhh start with More songs about buildings and food), Devo Pop: Beatles (Listen to Revolver and Rubber Soul DO IT NOW), David Bowie (also has 3 great relatively unknown new-wave cds that are amazing, Low as the best of the 3 IMO), Prince, too many but I like both of them alot lol Ambient: Brian Eno, "Another Green World" is easily one of my most listened to albums, very well thought out and arranged cd. Jazz: Too large of a genre but Charles Mingus (, John Coltrane, Miles Davis (again, Kind of Blue is a great cd), Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker are a few to list ![]() Modern Classical Composers: I'm big into Philip Glass ("Glasswerks" is a great cd to start with), Edgar Varese if your into very percussion based dissonant music. Too many great classical composers to really go into detail I have barely put enough effort to appreciate even a portion of it. Well good luck with your listening. You didn't really specify a certain genre or style your into so I just listed shit I like ![]() EDIT: sorry didn't know you were looking for songs, well i fail ![]()

+ Show Spoiler + -Warren Zevon -Damien Rice -Alizée (French pop) -Jérémy Chatelain (French pop) He has a very ...um..."distinct" voice. Many people hate it. -Natasha St. Pier (French pop) -Tool -A Perfect Circle -Incubus -Stone Temple Pilots -Soundgarden -Smokey Robinson -Stevie Wonder -The Animals -The Who -Pearl Jam -Iron Maiden -The Temptations -Maroon 5 -Live -Notorious B.I.G -Sponge -Neil Diamond Warren Zevon - Lawyers, Guns and Money (BBC performance) Warren Zevon - Gorilla, You're a Desperado Damien Rice - Childish That list just includes artists/groups I enjoy basically anything from, so no individual songs/album pointed out. Most of them are pretty widely known, but Warren Zevon and Damien Rice are each wildly under valued, in my opinion. Bleh, I felt compelled to link some Zevon, so I added 2 Youtube vids to the spoiler. His stuff is sort of tough to find on there, though. Also embedded one of my favorite Damien Rice songs.
