It's so easy and quick to light up a joint. I've seen so many people smoke whenever school's tough or when there's a problem. Even though it's not "addictive", people who smoke often do it consistently. people always start off by saying it's harmless, but then they end up doing it 5 times a week. a lot of addictions are bad, but some are justified by their return. If you play starcraft everyday, you'll get better. if you smoke you're still only going to get that one hour of high. Often times, addictions are also legitimized by the culture they represent. Fans/addicts of football or starcraft are admirers the beauty of the sport and its athletes, but smokers of pot are just a bunch of malcontents sitting around doing nothing but ruining their lungs. edit: xeo, why should i tell you about myself and give you fuel to make ad hominem attacks on me? if that's not your motive, there's still no incentive for me to disclose my drinking/smoking habits. anyway, nothing against you or other smokers, i just think smoking (weed and cigs) is bad to do on a regular basis | ||

Saying addictions are justified by their return is just a bullshit excuse to give some value to whatever addiction you might have. Any addiction is bad. I'm actually trying to say this about pot too. But you're too stubborn to realize that there are people in this world who smoke weed, are productive while doing it and actually know moderation. Besides, who the hell are you to say that smoking weed gives you no positive value in return? Its widely seen as a creative stimulant and like I have said there's countless of people and artists who used it while working on their things. I can account for this. I have the highest grade for design class in my school and I smoke weed about 5 times a week. No positive outcome? Stop thinking that. The reason I'm asking those questions is because I'm trying to understand where your opinion comes from. If you've never actually smoked weed then this conversation is pretty pointless. Its like having a conversation with a guy that has only played age of empires and tries to tell you starcraft sucks, while he never tried it. Thats why I'd like to know. | ||

here are some clarifications. when you smoke, you do not simply lose hours of your life. it is very possible and normal to carry out your everyday routine high with very little noticeable deficit. of course, this doesn't apply to things like studying or homework. next, weed is not physically addictive, though there is a risk of psychological addiction. the people you see that waste away perpetually stoned are not representative of most of the weed-smoking population. it is not a consequence of the drug, rather their own inherent inability to regulate themselves. finally, most smokers do not 'look down' or scorn the straight-edge people. unfortunately the reaction to unfair persecution is to think the other party ignorant. seriously, if you have no experience with drugs, can you please stop commenting on them? do you really think you are magically more moral/lucky/intelligent to have avoided drugs? it is very tiring and offensive having to read all this nonstop drivel. | ||

But eventually i realized that many Americans and others in the world grow up with puritan values, they grow up with this general belief that excess or intoxication of any form is a bad thing, whether that be food, sex, drugs or time in front of your computer. I'm sorry but i really just don't buy this philosophy any more. I'm not going to sit around living life with a seatbelt, helmet, protective eye-wear, a life vest and water wings on. i'm a sentient being that will die in under a 100 years and i'm going to taste the fruits of life while i'm here--not hate on things i'm too scared or uncomfortable to try. there will surely be some good and some bad experiences with anything, but i guess that's what comes with the territory | ||
