Well I was born in Toronto and moved to Atlanta when I was one and a half. Even though I've lived here for practically my entire life, I rarely go into the city.
Sure I go to Hawks games or Braves games. Or I'll occasionally go to the CNN center, aquarium, or World of Coca Cola. But beyond that, I have little experience with all the things to do in Atlanta.
I am planning on taking my girlfriend into Atlanta sometime soon. She has rarely done much in the city too.
What I need is recommendations on things to do. We've done major things like the sites I mentioned above. What else is there to do? What are some good places to eat?
We'll be walking and using MARTA most of the time because driving seems like it would be hell downtown. And I don't know about how easy it is to find parking spots and how safe it is. My easter eggs got stolen from my dad's car when I was four years old. I was quite sad.
I know about places like Atlantic Station, shopping in buckhead, underground atlanta and stuff, but not the details. Share experiences or what you have heard?
Thanks!

Best place to eat? Fogo de Chao. Its a Brazilian Steakhouse. Expensive as hell, but (!) their servers just walk around the restaurant, and shovel high-quality meat onto your plate till you have enough. Then when you are done with that, you let them know that you want more high-quality meat shoveled onto your plate, and they do it again. Most amazing restaurant ever.

I live in Athens, GA. Only been here for 2 years, haven't really been to Atlanta too much either.
There's a restaurant called Home, and the chef there is Richard Blaise from Top Chef. I took a look at the menu once and it looked good, pricing is very good too. You could try that.

Atlanta's a shithole with literally nothing to do. Go downtown and you'll see absolutely nothing. Coca Cola whatever. CNN Center, whoopdeedoo. Aquarium overhyped 45 minute walk of nothing really spectacular. Park in a parking garage, but beware of getting mugged and shit.
Take your girlfriend elsewhere to explore. Atlanta sucks.

Going to the Varsity is asking for a heart attack.
Anyways, as for real things you might want to explore in Atlanta, you could check out the shops in Underground Atlanta (beware of beggars though), check out Lenox Square Mall and the plaza around it. Lots of variety in terms of shops.
As for entertainment, you could check out the Fox Theatre for some great shows, Zoo Atlanta (go see the pandas), the High Museum of Art, the Atlanta Botanical Garden, and of course Centennial Olympic Park (home of the 96 Olympics). And if you really want to shop, I suggest going north to the outlets on 400. I know it's not in town, but there's just so many stores there.
Enjoy your time in Atlanta. Although I still think it's a shithole and an awful place to be, there are worse places to be.

you were afraid of Plexa suing you for eating his waffles!

it is quite delicious (for fast food). yet the people I know always seem to associate it with being very unhealthy, and I guess thats where the heart attack thing comes in
I like this fogo de chao place, does anyone know the pricing? I did some googling and saw something like 30 for lunch and 50 for dinner.

Haha, when I was in Atlanta over the holidays, I ate at Waffle House like 5 times. I love how they have a sign on the door saying "Thank you for coming. See you tomorrow." It's so true.
When I went to GT, it seemed that everyone from the area loved the Varsity and all the out of state students hated it. I was in Smith my freshman year so I ate there a little too often.
Fogo de Chao is definitely awesome. I've only been to the one in Minneapolis and wasn't paying, but if you want really good meat, it's worth whatever they charge.

It think drinks are extra, and those faggots don't give free refills. But its a really nice place, and had it has those people who park your car for you.

I'm not from Atlanta (been there once), but I know my cousin books shows at Smithe's Olde Bar, and it's had some pretty good talent before (when I went down, I got to see Train). Aside from that, I know nothing. I just chilled in his studio the entire time.

Why would you go to the Varsity when you could go to Steak and Shake woot!
