You probably have a friend like me. You probably think to yourself "Fuck that Kid. I work hard and think about the metaphysics of the games. He may be faster but he is still just a scrub." You are the kind of person that is proactive (no, not the acne medication.) You run the game by various build orders, macro skills timing, or whatever non RTS equivalents would fit into this list. And you worked hard on this, pouring over strat forums, massing games, feeling like crap because you had an off day.
I do none of this. What I do is Pwn No0bs. This is not better in any way, in fact its probably worse. But the No0bs are pwned none the less.
I in fact play a pivotal role in the gaming community. Your friend's little brother and his crew? The ones that think they are the shit at video games? I'm the one that shuts them up. This is not a brag, I don't think I have ever had bragging rights among the real communities, this is simply what I do. In two days there is a Smash Bros Tourny at my school, a school that has no pros, no players important in the community. I'm going to go there and beat them. I can't wave dash, or any of the SSBB equivlients, those "tech skills." But I'm still going to win probably, not because I am more skilled, simply because I am faster, quicker to react.
In reality I see myself as a trained No0b. I am stuck in this Limbo between being adept at playing video games and actually being Good. I have flaunted many I time that I am going to take the leap of faith: begin the quest to be a big name, to try and actually be an "influence" on a game. But saddly I've never done it. Getting beat so many times on ICCup just makes it too demoralizing to keep pushing. I just spent the last hour on Smashboards (Ick!) trying to figure out what I could do to improve my chances. I'm not going to be able to do it. I have peaked at 18, how depressing.
Maybe when SC II comes out...

:O Another smash fan! Which game are you guys playing, since you mentioned Super Smash Bros (which implies the n64 one), Brawl, and Wavedashing for the same tournament. Maybe I can help you out, since I enjoy playing Melee.

That's often how I felt about SSB64; it's just a shame almost no one plays it anymore. Still, congrats I guess on making the nooblets respect.

Ah, hopefully you won't get an upset.

cool man have fun
looking forward to your blog about girls

cgrinker, you now are half way to being pro. The other half is to be able to look at every other opponent as a n00b. I am currently working on this myself.

When you lose in the 1st round be sure to tell them that smash isn't a real game like SC is

iccup is definitely demoralizing...not to mention for some reason it's harder to find D-/D games...T_T
All of us D-ish players are in the same boat as you...we're good enough to completely destroy anyone who doesn't frequent TL or isn't Korean, but we get our asses beaten to hamburger and then force-fed unwillingly into our bloodied mouths when we play anyone who does or is.

Why Smashboards (Ick!)? What's wrong with Smashboards?
And you really don't sound like you know much about Smash at all. It doesn't necessarily take a "pro" or someone even near the top to beat someone who doesn't have much Smash experience.
Unless they really are all god-awful, i.e. only play with their friends, never heard of Smashboards or competitive play, etc.
