Until it's considered too much?

Since music is a common medium for most people to relate to, I'll primarily be posting music videos of certain singers

Exhibit A: Crown J's MV "So Fly"

I personally don't care how many times you have "Ayyyyy" or "Ballin!" in your song. I don't even give a rats ass if you have black people in your music video as a representation of trying to validate a song as a true "hip-hop" song. So really what's the point of this song? I personally feel like he's trying to validate his status as a true hip-hop artist in Korea, trying real hard with his image especially in his videos.

Even this song did received success, this single was released after he was well known in that show above... not that "black" in that show huh?

Exhibit B: Accepting what you are usually gains more respect from other people

Jin - Learn Chinese

Quick info on Jin:
Well known freestylist, especially on BET where his freestyling was displayed against other freestylists

Part of Ruff Ryders from 2002-2005/2006ish

The difference here? Granted the opportunities he's had being in America but being part of Ruff Ryders that includes names like DMX, Swizz Beatz, The Lox, speaks volumes for his hip-hop accomplishments. If you noticed in his freestyle and actual music video he doesn't deny that he's asian, if anything he's proud of what he is.

So, one "rapper" is mostly known for appearances in a television show vs. another being mostly known for his music. While one accepts who he is vs. one who tries to show off his bling bling like what typical "black people" might do, which one are you going to critisize less?
Couple of my best friends are black and I know sure as hell that trying to act black in front of them would've turned them off real quickly. I mean seriously what do you guys think?

I like hip hop and rap but the first two songs are sooo bad
they are just pathetic
the rap battle imo the chinese did better thatn the afro american, but tatke into account that I don't get all the things they rapped about coz english isn't my first language

generally I don't give a fuck about skin color as long as the music they produce is good

Jin's freestyling is pretty good. I guess some Asians act "black" to fit in more and be cool, but it's not that bothersome. It's their choice, so if they want to act like a tough guy let them be.

isn't there a difference between acting black and being a part of hip hop culture? i'm not really sure what acting black consists of... i figured the whole baggy clothes, big jewelry, style of talking/walking, music, etc, was just "hip hop culture" and there are people doing that around the world now, not just black people in america.

I completely agree with you man. Jin is such a joke. Look at those baggy clothes, the crooked braves cap, the gold chain. That guy tries to act so black it's not even funny.

This is false.

First off, the baggy clothes, etc do no consitute "acting black". If a black kid decides to play SC and study math in his free time is he "acting asian". No, he's just doing what he likes/wants to do.

Second, I've seen/been around Jin more than once, and he's not trying to act anything, just a very talented freestyler who isn't afraid or trying to conceal what he is.
PM me if you go to Stonybrook and are interested in playing CSL+3!

He's being hip hop not black. I don't know where you grew up, but over here it's quite normal for everyone of all races to be hip hop or what you see as being "black"

this is truth.

if you think they're "acting black" you need to re-think your train of thought.

when will black people stop acting so white?

How far can Asians go trying to be "white"? How far can geeky North Americans go trying to be "Asian"? How far can blacks go trying to be "white"? How far can whites go trying to be "black"?

Are contemporary Asian composers trying to be white because they compose with Western instruments in mind?

regardless of color, if that was the culture somebody grew up in what gives you the right to call it a "pretending" and "trying to be"?????? Your post just shows very irrational side of you. It is a time of global era where different people of different races are brought up in different cultures. We see white people brought up in a ghetto who act ghetto and asians brought up in US acting totally white. They are not faking but its just the culture they live with. Face it.

Crown J is acceptable to his black friends. And he had even been invited to BET Award by people in hiphop music industry when he was making that m/v in Atlanta, GA. Professionals in hiphop industry don't think he is a black-wanna-be but you do.

Now it is more about where and how you grew up then color of your skin. And when judging about someone, you need more than 3 youtube vids.

IMHO
Boxer is the truth.

They are trying to act "cool", not "black". It just so happens in this day and age that being cool to them means acting like one of those gangster rappers.

Apparently some gangsta rappers aren't even gangsta at all.
Some of them don't have the rap sheet that they claim to have, such as Akon (Convict Music? Not really.)

Also, black people weren't even the original gangsters. Real gangsters like those found in the Italian Mafia and the Chinese Triads have existed for centuries.

Remember that thread a while back about the vietnamese rap music video where the main singer's little brother is playing at some playground and like two big black guys start picking on him.....then the kid calls his gangsta vietnamese bro who then assembles his entire gang to beat down on the thugs lol
The beatings will continue until the morale improves.

Yeah, I've been listening to this song every day since. I don't think I've ever liked a Korean song as much as this song before. Fucking great, every single one of them. Seven minutes long with no chorus; just pure poetry.

First of all your assumptions about about Crown J.... Apparently if you didnt watch that reality show, he does talk and do things that he is accustomed to in his life. When he speaks Korean he has different tone of voice rather his rough "gangsta" English. Also the show has a concept so he has his limits, seriously now...

Your lack exposure of the Korean or foreign scene, even though its an opinion really screws it up.

I doesn't matter if your Asian/White/Black/Brown or from the grey area. if you're rapping sucks then you don't have credit for being a hip hop artist, but you can still be a wannabe; Some of our rappers here in my country sucks big time at rapping to the point that you can actually sing their compositions at karaoke.
I don't think I've ever wished my opponent good luck prior to a game. When I play, I play to win. I hope every opponent I ever have is cursed with fucking terrible luck. I hope they're stuck playing underneath a stepladder with a black cat in attendance a
