At that, I stumbled onto the official site of the galge another day when searching for something else and found character popularity polls, the results were surprising enough to make me wonder how bloody different the anime was from some of the offered routes. Spice and Wolf is an interesting one, I have difficulty classifying it as romance even though it should fall under that ultimately, guess attachment to the light novels made me forgot about it being animated at all :p In that vein though, Banner/Crest of the Stars also qualify, methinks, and I strongly recommend that even though it is such an old anime. | ||

To OP: If you are looking for a realistic romance drama, try "Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien". This anime used to be rated the best on animenfo.com (one of the top 3 anime sites along with aniDB and ANN). Personally I recommend "School days". You may ask "wtf" after watching it but it's definitely a good experience. | ||

Edit: I also loved Death Note. I'm watching Bleach, Naruto and Soul Eater right now (I recommend SE, it's fucking sweeeeet and it looks slick as hell [<---gosu definitions but really it's awesome]). I'm sad D.Gray-Man anime ended ;( it was good. I picked that up after Death Note ended because there was a void. Slowly since I've been adding anime to my seen collection. | ||

Dattebayo is proud to revitalize its partnership with Live-Evil fan subs in order to bring you the Kaze to Ki no Uta OAV from 1987. The OAV is based on the long running manga by Keiko Takemiya, which is not available in English. Keiko Takemiya was also responsbile for "Terra He", which was just recently remade into an excellent anime that I highly recomend. This is the first time that the Kaze to Ki no Uta OAV has been digitally subtitled since it was subtitled on VHS tape by Technogirls on 9/25/1997. If you have seen this OAV subtitled in English, you saw the Technogirls version. They did an excellent job, but we felt it was time to bring this classic video to you in a more modern form. We have used the original 1987 laser-disc as the video source and the sixty-minute presentation has been completely re-translated with the help of the experts at Live-Evil. This OAV represents one of the earliest examples of shounen-ai anime, and for this reason we feel it is historically important enough to deserve our efforts. When Technogirls originally produced the VHS tape, they added some additional notes at the beginning of the translation that I found somewhat informative. Here they are for your enjoyment: If the idea of animated homosexual romance makes you uncomfortable, DO NOT continue watching this tape! This anime was made for fans of the manga, and it was assumed that the viewer had read much of the story. To view it properly, you will need a short briefing. Set in a boy's boarding school in France in the 19th century, the story is presented as a series of memories of the main character, Serge, returning to the school he had attended as a teenager. Gilbert, the school tramp, is Serge's roommate, and the story centers on the relationship of the two boys. Gunslinger girl is a semi-non-strict definition of romantic... It's a lot of powerful ideas... The characters don't lust for each other, but there are very sad parts, and high ideals of what friendship is, and what human beings are to each other. I really liked this one too. | ||

I would recommend the live action movies of Death Note rather than the anime since + Show Spoiler + the movies end when L dies (Light dies before him); no N/M shit. | ||

Do you want shows with an element of romance or for the whole show to be romance? Because a LOT of the recommended shows are only a little bit romance, or have a romantic storyline as only one of their core elements. And if you want supernatural romance, Kanon 2006 > ef > Clannad imo. | ||

Made me realise how many retards there exist in reviewing forums and in the anime community in general who have the audacity to give something 9/10 with such ease. I have never seen such a cheap character line up [parakiss did have some depth compared to the others] and character development. Very weak plot and very immature cast all together. I don't know where you guys find the substance in these anime. And gundam seed fits into a whole new shit pile all together. Watch Rose of Versailles, the depth of each character is amazing, you'll feel like you're reading a book. You will fall in love with the protagonist and the context in which she grew up + the conflicts she faces throughout her life. Or make the switch to Japanese drama/movies if you're really after romance. There are a few decent ones. It is extremely hard to find decent anime out there. | ||

If you go to the Wiki categories section you can search through anime and manga by category. Also you can look through places like animenewsnetwork and mangaupdates to find out about various series' (good manga are almost always turned into anime so if you search through manga by category and then sort them by rating, that should give you a good general idea of what series to look at). school days was actually an H-Game, just got into an anime, but really, this anime is more about tragedy than love/romance anyway, there are much larger romance stuff in manga, especially shoujo, not much as shounen, but there are some, especially this one im reading atm: unbalancex2 aka unbalance x unbalance | ||
