Edit; Ok ok i'll moderate myself. I've had a lot of practice of moderation with SC.(Hey you helped me for once!!!XD) But i detest smoking, however i love partying with close friends... so i don't know. Maybe. Thanks everyone. Any and all advice on anything... is appeiciated! ^.^ Also dronebabo ur mean ):<
I need help preparing for dorm life in college i could make this blog all fancy and informing but thats pretty much it. A broad general question. I suppose i could list things im thinking about
Like ... 1) How to wake up in morning( i really suck at that ) 2) How to control myself physics IE NO GAMES NO SLACKING i just want to get in the mood for raping college ezpz walking out with a 4.0 then making a decent salary. 3) FASFA? Gettign a pin- applying jan. and hoping for the best lols o.o 4) Um... i'm not going to party.. I'm not smoking. I'm possibly drinking. however i dont want to. And... i have a friend for a dormate that i'm pretty confortable with and our main concern is not playing games and waking up with a fairly constant sleep cycle( we both like to turn off alarms -> back to sleep)
umm hopefully we'll get enough grants and scholarships and stuff i got a decent score on the ACT/SAT and he got like a beastly 2330 on SAT loll nerdy asian. Also, i don't want to get into any conflicts with him... any thoughts? we're pretty mellow people i think
then uh... otherwise unless he has some dark secret i don't mind anything.

Sorry for the relatively short of effort OP; i'll try to make up for it by responding to comments D: i have calc hw to finishD:
|
1) easy wake up at a certain time every day it's how i did it. Now i just wake up before my 4 alarms go off... yeah i had troubles before. But that means you need to be able to get a decent amount of sleep before that 6+ 2)Just don't bring any of that to tempt you games wise but slacking is a bit harder.
|
1) How to wake up in morning( i really suck at that ) Alarm clock, use phone as alarm, and have dorm mates help you wake up also. Between those 3 you should be ok.
2) How to control myself physics IE NO GAMES NO SLACKING. Part of college is about going crazy, skipping class, and playing games till 8am. Just make sure that you work smart (not necessarily hard) and turn in all hw/don't miss any quizzes/ etc.
i just want to get in the mood for raping college ezpz walking out with a 4.0 then making a decent salary. If you really want to get 4.0, then don't miss any classes, study a decent amount of time before tests (2-3 days before) and you should be fine.
3) FASFA? Gettign a pin- applying jan. and hoping for the best lols o.o 4) Um... i'm not going to party.. I'm not smoking. I'm possibly drinking. however i dont want to. And... i have a friend for a dormate that i'm pretty confortable with and our main concern is not playing games and waking up with a fairly constant sleep cycle( we both like to turn off alarms -> back to sleep) If u have ppl to back you up, it helps a lot, trust me. Honestly tho, I would say that its not the end of the world to go to a couple parties, smoke out, etc. College is basically the last hurrah before "the real world", so I would enjoy it while you can.
|
alright thanks, i might have overpaced myself; i tend to do that a lot; thought i'm not sure its a bad or good thing. I'll try and pace myself, and be smart about things, more importantly, get a good nights sleep everyday.
Speaking of parties and smoking... i'll still try not to, because i tend to overindulge @ the first sign of... something fun; i'll settle for hanging out with friends at restaurants and watching movies

My advice for most things is not really advice but more of a statement. You will know how to deal with most of your concerns when you actually go. I can't speak for everyone, but even after I asked people for advice, there were still many unforseen things good or bad.
One thing you should really try to do is whenever you feel like an injustice is set upon you by your roomate, confront him immediately. Me and my roomate have gotten along very nicely because as soon as we have a problem, even if it just starts as an annoyance, we just straight up say it. Seriously, if you guys are both reasonable, there should be no real problems.

Alarm clocks (more than one) and make one the annoying one is far away from the bed so you are forced to get up to turn it off.
2) How to control myself physics IE NO GAMES NO SLACKING
Games are fine, it's just time management. It's knowing how to prioritize. Let yourself play for a few hours but try and make arrangements to study WITH people somewhere away from where you're playing games. by doing that, at least the other people are keeping you accountable and you'd feel bad about ditching them... and eventually you'll be able to depend on yourself to study when you have to.

FAFSA is easy. how ever, make sure you go to http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ not any other FAFSA website. it's a free service. there are too many people who go to fafsa.com or something and stupidly PAY for the service.
4) Um... i'm not going to party.. I'm not smoking. I'm possibly drinking. however i dont want to. And... i have a friend for a dormate that i'm pretty confortable with and our main concern is not playing games and waking up with a fairly constant sleep cycle( we both like to turn off alarms -> back to sleep)
Good luck living with your friend. Most of the time living with someone you already know can be trouble but as long as you guys can get past that, you'll be alright. Just don't get on each other's nerves and also know how to live life wtihout each other. ^^ Go ahead and party and go drink - that's a part of college, but again, do it after you've finished what you need to do.
Have fun! College was a ton of stress but an equal amount of fun, if not more.

1) How to wake up in morning( i really suck at that ) Uh, have classes you can miss in the morning? My morning professor last quarter is so incredibly lenient, one day I woke up after the midterm started and it was ok.
Also yeah, set two alarms at least one you can't readily reach.
2) How to control myself physics IE NO GAMES NO SLACKING Are you seriously not going to game? You can still have fun while getting good grades and stuff as long as you don't slack when it is important. ie When it is time to study or do an assignment you actually do it.
3) FASFA? Gettign a pin- applying jan. and hoping for the best lols o.o k i did this and didnt get anything...lool plus now im registered for the draft.
4) Um... i'm not going to party.. I'm not smoking. I'm possibly drinking. however i dont want to. And... i have a friend for a dormate that i'm pretty confortable with and our main concern is not playing games and waking up with a fairly constant sleep cycle( we both like to turn off alarms -> back to sleep) Probably it is best to get a dorm mate you don't know lol. My room mate right now is so chill and polite and I never really talk to him. Basically if you don't know your room mate and don't really get to know him then you won't fight.

Most of the time because you know your friend on a differently level than as someone you live with there can be conflicts. And because he's your friend, you might have a harder time confronting him about it, in the case that you dont want to "ruin" the friendship. living with someone you dont know is easier because you learn about the person by living with him, thus, less expectations and you'll just take his weird habits for granted. when you're with someone you already know you'll have more "wtf, dude, i didnt know you x y and z!!" which can cause arguements.

PROCRASTINATION HELP ME I FORGOT ABOUT IT T_T(update) You sound like an insecure over-achiever. Get over yourself and just do what you need to do. -___-;;
1) I still have problems with this, and just end up skipping any classes I have earlier than noon. It's a terrible habit. The best way is to get other friends to wake you up. 2) This is all up to you. If you force yourself to be diligent enough, then you will be. There is no magic technique, there is no easy way. You've been to school before college...it's no different, except that you don't have parents around to kick you in the ass. You have to somehow force your leg the wrong way to kick your ass yourself. 3) -____-;; 4) If you don't want to party, then don't. If you don't want to smoke, then don't. If you don't want to drink, then don't. As long as you're not a little bitch about it, no one worth knowing is going to look down on you or any bullshit like that. There's nothing wrong with partying at all...just be careful, and control yourself. Aside from the obvious health issues, there's nothing wrong with smoking either. It's a habit I picked up in college as well, and while I'm regretting it immensely, you make it sound like it's a requirement as a college student...-____-;; As for drinking, it's become a part of college culture, but again, I know lots of people who don't drink at all here in college. There's nothing wrong with it either.
Just do what you gotta do. You're gonna be dropping $5k-20k a semester/quarter...make the most of it and get them grades. Don't worry about all that image bullshit...trust me, after a couple of years, you're gonna be sick of and burnt out from all the dumbass superficiality in college, anyway.

I had 8 o clock orgo this past quarter, and I couldn't afford to miss it. Otherwise alarm clock that shit.
One thing about studying: get out of your room and away from your computer. If your teacher posts stuff online, print it and go to the library, study lounge, etc. It's amazing what you can do when you're not distracted.

This is the one, right here
my phone is on the other side of the room and it plays the most ridiculously annoying fucking sound OVER AND OVER AGAIN so I can wake up at 6am every morning (and work for like 2 hours, hooray!)

thats really fucking mature, no sarcasm i realized that through some ridiculous experience believe it or not, someone who used to be your "best friend" or one of them could turn out to be a complete opposite after u share room/travel with him for some time. My dad used to take small expeditions up in mountains and he told me that people change drastically facing different conditions, you can finally see their true faces. I thought it was relevant to "serious" business( mountains/expeditions), turned out it can get silly while sharing a stupid apartment/making decisions together u will be so fed up with that other person u wont ever want to see him/her again
and lol @ the alarm clock, i use 2 atm and sometimes i shut them both off and wake up late
|
im more of a death metal emo guy who fronts like a nerd when speaking with strangers however is a slacker at heart and generally pretty mellow about things, but then thats superficial so i gues i should fix that T.T

I always wake up, turn off my alarm and go back to sleep without having any recollection of it. It's more impressive when somebody physical wakes me because I can manage complex conversations on autopilot and not know any of it happened.

College dorm life is not something to fear, enjoy it, for some people it's the best few years of their lives.
The fact that you are worrying so much just means you'll be OK. Just don't get a bitch pregnant.

meh this sounds like a great idea; but i've had bad bad experiences where; oh look it's me doing al the work while you guys copy my answers then have the nerve to ask me about what it means Or oh hey im gonna just give u guys my email and ill make up the powerpoint u guys just email me anything you find and prepare for a speech for class!..... *does powerpoint for 4 hours*
them: "....uhhh i went to sleep dude, did u do it?" Seriously , high school sucks balls. ZOMG TEACHER THINKS ITS FUN TO PICK PPL FOR GROUP. And guess what happens now! I'm in a group of 3 people for a science fair , that i've already done like 4 proposals( first 3 got rejected, can't use darned human subjects ; or just build something... it's not a demo! science teacher says , etc ) Whereas the other people that are in my group were actually much more considerate(honors physics II class) and researched some things for me, but in the end it paled in comparison to my work and i'm really starting to worry when we're going to meet. It just sucks moving from school to school and not knowing anyone i guess.
But i've always tried not to let anyone down and at that moment in time(now looking back jesus christ they were fags) i was actually worried about if my powerpoint was good enough, or my presentation was good enough for them; even though they didn't lift a finger(although promises were made! ) ( is that wrong? ) It's a strange form of motivation but w/e.
And thus ends my semi argument against working with people. Or at least why im more inclined to working alone=/

Oh and i'm a virgin ; never kissed a girl before and ... i have the bestest close friends ever ^-^(most of which are girls) . I dunno, it's not really important to me. So i probably won't have to worry about that. Unless like i actually have sex.. then i put the condom on wrong XDD (don't know how it works)

+100000 to susie's suggestion about putting the alarm clock on the other side of the room, plus it adds some guilt if your roommate is still asleep
about 2, a lot of college is self-discipline, if you can't handle something as simple as not playing games all the time, you won't handle college well
fafsa is good, but you'll be surprised how little money you will get (<3 federal gov)
on 4, it's very easy to be smart in college and still have a lot of fun, it's also very easy to be very stupid, the choice is yours
|
marry your dormmate = win and on a more serious note, College/school is the time where you most likely will have the most fun in your life. Partying is fine as long as you know when to draw the line. e.g. not partying when you should be learning for a fucking examn or going out to do sports a couple of times a week oO
|
You'll be amazed how naturally you just glide right into dorm life.
An alarm is easy enough to wake up. If that fails, you'll wake up to your roomate saying, "turn off the fucking alarm"
I agree that if you can't manage to control your gaming habits, you're going to have much more serious issues. It shouldn't be that hard anyway, you should be in constant contact with people, taking you away from the games.
