Today I finally got some good news on my uni exams so I decided to celebrate it in some way. Because the week has just began and I have plenty of stuff to do with my studies I thought that it might be stupid to organize smth of a slosh party, besides there is still time for this on friday. So anyway I bought a six pack of some cheap beer, went str8 home after the uni and I got soo bored so I decided to re-install Neverwinter Nights. I still can remember all the romantic that game has brought to me so many years ago, when I first completed it with my wizzard without reading any BO infos or walkthrus. But this time is long gone and I dont have the passion to read all the boring stuff that the NPCs have to say. Anyway I felt a strange ambition to make a new hero and having in mind that I'm always playing spellcasters in the DnD I decided to make smth fresh a tank hero. So now I'm armed with less than a beer and half and my paladin is struggling to level up to lvl 6. Anyway I researched different BOs in the net trying to find the best way to develop my new hero of the neverwinter realm. I think I will just delete the game tomorrow, NWN was always been my ultimate time killer...but a man wants what he wants, maybe I will play it again to the very end. This post doesnt have any significant meaning but I will be happy if some NWN gosu player comes up with gosu thoughts how must I level up my rookie, for now I'm planing to make it Champ of Torm or whatever its called, its some prestige class anyway. And yeah, any " I <3 NWN ! You hyped me once again about it, installing it right away" are most welcome and for those who think NWN is shit well... you suck

On a side note I've just watched Top Gear s12e01 and I'm glad the guys are back, the episode is absolutely great looking forward for the next one

On other side note Bisu will win MSL

On last side note check out Botchamania or smth like that in youtube, its a collection of the most retarded moments of WWE (yeah you guys really suck)
Just a sneak peak about it ....

just kiddin

here it is

Hmm... To be honest, I haven't really played a pally in either NWN (i have NWN+all expoes and also NWN2). They've always felt kind of weak to me. I like arcane spellcasters a lot though. The only time I beat NWN:Hordes of the Underdark, I played a Dwarven Defender which was fun. This isn't helping you at all... I'm sorry, just reminiscing about a fun game. I'll probably play either NWN1 or 2 when I go home next. Good Luck with your Champion of Torm... I never really perfected the art of character builds

HoU is indeed hard to beat I gave up my RDD in the fight against Mefi, I'm screwing up my heros anytime I try to multiclass thats why I dont take my CoT seriously I will just play and see what comes out

Love NWN and especially HotU. I still have it installed, so you can't inspire me to install it, but I might finally go out and pick up NWN2. The first time I killed Mephi was on a totally screwed up noob toon. It was like a dwarf plate-wearing, dual-axe-wielding warrior/barbarian/weaponmaster lol. I used like 20 potions of heal to make it. The second time was actually with a paladin/CoT that was alot better and easier to win with, but I'm no expert character builder either, so I'm reluctant to advise you. Have fun though, paladins have alot of options and are tough to build properly.

on a side note, Bisu will win the MSL

NWN BOs suggested online are always utter crap. For one, they completely ignore the fact that the base 3E DnD system is unbalanced beyond belief. They use classes that are acknowledged to be terrible (Arcane Archer and Dwarven Defender). Casters are ridiculously overpowered, and the changes made in NWN (unlimited resting, free learning spells from scrolls) completely exacerbate that fact. Take this from someone who's spent extensive time building and optimizing characters under the DnD System:

Overpowered classes:
Wizard
Druid
Cleric
These are considered the "big 3." Even among the dozens of supplementary splatbooks that have been published by Wizards of the Coast, these classes just completely dominate. Their power exceeds other classes around level 7, when Wizards get Polymorph, and Clerics get Divine Power, since their melee combat abilities become even better than Fighters and Barbarians.

Middle-power classes:
Bard
Barbarian
Ranger
Rogue
These classes are "ok." They won't outfight casters, but they have specific abilities that help mitigate that fact (e.g. skills for the rogue, ranger, and bard).

Classes not worth your time:
Fighter
Monk
Paladin
Basically, these classes are almost entirely focused on melee combat. Since the melee combat abilities of the primary casters spirals out of control, they quickly get outdone. Yes you can beat the game with these classes, but they're just not that good.

After 3 days of intense playing my rookie is in the beginning of champter 3 its pal8/CoT6 or smth like that and I can proudly say that my chump is sucking balls big time. the giants are absolutely owning me in every possible way, I've tried to change the henchman but I did no good, am completely torn apart. Ofc I can always TP 10 times in each battle but killing a group of giants will cost me aprox 3000 GP. The point is the paladin/cot is an absolute warmachine when it comes to undead, the first two chapters were like a walk in the park but thats all this damn class can do, smash undead. I'm so angry because I dont want to give up just yet but the game got so annoying just for 30 min playing chapter 3.

I was into NWN for quite some time (still installed, actually), although it was some time ago. I best recall builds for online PvP (I was mostly into team PvP servers), but I remember two paladin builds I beat the campaigns very easily with.

One was a Paladin/Weapon Master build:

Level 1 stats looked something like 15str/13dex/14con/14wis/13int/8cha. It's somewhat weak in the early levels due to thinly spread initial stats, but your buffs alone should be able to keep you alive and doing well until you start hitting WM levels, where you'll be doing quite a bit of damage. You can throw some Fighter classes in there for bonus feats to hit the WM levels faster, but your buffs won't last as long in the long run and/or you won't be able to get as many Epic WM levels, which results in a lower attack bonus.

Overall this build relies a lot on gear for AC/resistance since you won't be able to use any charisma based feats (Divine Shield and Divine Grace), but the gear you find is generally more than strong enough to keep you alive. Also, later on (especially in HotU where you can customize your own weapon) you'll be doing lots of damage and landing almost every attack, which has a good chance of being a critical hit due to the inevitable keen you will put on your weapon + improved critical + Ki critical.

Another was a Paladin/Red Dragon Disciple build:

Initial stats for this build aren't as restricted as the previous, but you obviously should get 14 wisdom, and I personally like to get 12 dex for the extra AC point, but it's not really a big deal. Being a Paladin, your starting stats will still be spread a bit thin, resulting in the game being slightly more challenging early on, but that changes quickly. 10 Levels in RDD results in +8 str/+2 con/+2int/+2cha, not to mention +4 AC and immunity to fire/paralysis.

Overall, while this build isn't as heavy-hitting as the previous, it's more robust in terms of defense, and also allows for more customization (for example you could get a bit more charisma and take a few extra bard levels, but that's a more complex build) and potentially allows for the use of the Paladin's charisma-based feats.

I've not really incorporated Champion of Torm much into any of my builds, and the few successful ones I've seen were pretty complex and mostly used for team PvP.

I will try to make some weird Pal/CoT/Sor/RDD build I think it might work. I'm pretty confident in beating the original NWN, I've just reached the last chapter and surprisingly I beat the shit out of the chapter 3 red dragon, it was pure ownage. Glory aura + baldurian armor+ nymph cloak is the real deal, I made 50+ dmg to him in the final battle

I played ALOT of NWN. All RP servers where you have to act your character, but i've always loved making power builds. If we're talking NWN and not pen and paper. Druids are NOT good. Wizards and Clerics are overpowered yes, but clerics start to REALLY shine at lvl 15, not 7, divine power lasts round per level iirc and at lvl 7 , that's nothing. Not to say they're not good before hand, just they start to become monsters at 15.

Barbarians i found are the most useless class in NWN, they dont belong in your middle power. Same with Rangers, completely useless class. Rogues and Bards on the other hand belong to some of the best powerbuilds.

Monks do not deserve to be at your bottom, neither do fighter, each have good reasons to pick. Fighters for their feats and monks for various reasons. Monk/Rogue/Cleric is actually a PvM monster. Paladins are also mostly useless, though there are some really nice sorc/monk/paladin builds using holy shield and impro expertise and reaching godly AC.

Few interesting builds people might like to test (I mostly played with the limit cap of 40, but i do have some 30 builds)

Fighter/Bard/Palemaster either 4/20/16 or 8/16/16. If leveled correctly, you can take your level 40 as Palemaster and manage to get both epic warding and epic mage armour. I personally like using a scythe for this build as your AB won't be AMAZING, but you'll still be a killing monster.

Cleric/RDD/Bard - Levels really depend on how you like to play or who you're up against. You want a minimum of 15 cleric, as this is where their spell bonus' max, but up against a higher level cleric, you'll get dispelled so i like to get 21 cleric or so~. RDD/Bard levels are dependent on how good you want your bard/curse song etc.

Blah doubt anyone will even care about all this crap but ill throw out a few more interesting builds people can play with.

Fighter/weapon master/cleric (rapier 10-20 crit with right weapon mmm <3 )
Cleric/RDD/Weapon Master
Bard/PM/Weapon Master

Other interesting builds = Sorc/Wizard with all spare points into con, and get dmg reduction feats at epic levels. Forget epic mage armour, epic warding/acid sheathe mm <3

Once again, i doubt anyone will even care about all this, but i just love nwn so much <3

NWN does not allow you to have levels in more than 3 classes.

Agree on Druids as far as NWN is concerned, seeing as the feat that makes them good on paper is missing. As far as clerics go, it depends whether you're playing online, with resting limits or if you're playing single-player. In single-player, which I believe the OP was gearing for, spell duration is rather irrelevant, seeing as you can rest combat after combat.

Admittedly the last time I played the game, I played with the PRC, which adds a lot of feats and prestige classes to the game, and that opens the door for Barbarians and Rangers. Rogues and Bards CAN be good for combat, but they require a lot more work than primary casters.

How is Fighter generally useful beyond level 2? Unless you're feat-starved, spellcasting levels should be strictly better than feats, so taking Fighter levels beyond what your build needs is superfluous. Almost every melee combat build needs SOME levels of Fighter to grab feats, but it shouldn't really be the backbone of your build.

You obviously never get more fighter levels than needed. The only times i actually use Fighter, is for my Bard/fighter/palemaster and Fighter/WM/Cleric and i never get more than eight levels, usually less. (tho you can go Rogue/WM/Cleric if you want, just you can get owned by knockdown spam)

Not sure what you mean by getting spellcaster levels over fighter, because you should never mix fighter with sorc/wizard. Unless you mean bard/cleric etc, then sure, you optimise as much as possible. It's part of the beauty of NWN, is creating the perfect character/class combination.

As for Rangers/Barbarians, no matter what classes you mix them with, they're practically useless. Rangers are fun to roleplay though~

Some of my comments are more relevant to the PRC-modded version of the game. Those two in particular were.

This.

It adds more classes and feats to the game. The last time I played NWN was with that pack, so my knowledge is somewhat biased to include its content.
