I've been following starcraft progaming since 05, and became a big fan of many players, such as nada, savior, bisu, and best. Sometimes I am not even sure myself what it is some of these people attract me so much. I mean how is best fundamentally different from those millions of generic mechanics driven terrans? I don't know. But ever since I knew that there was gonna be a match between best and stork, I just wanted best to win so much, and continue his streak. I don't know why I've started to dislike certain players ever since I saw them playing, like literally the first time I saw what they look like. Stork isn't quite a good looking man I admit, I just don't understand why I hate him so much. I don't want to hate him, but I just do... lol, I mean he is a very talented, consistent, and great starcraft player, but I just root for the other guy whenever he plays someone, and the funniest thing is, I don't even know why...
Now there have been many times when the guy I rooted for lost. This time it is best. I've been depressed all day after I saw the match result this morning. I haven't told anyone why I've been weird and irritable, and I really hate myself like this. I know I am overreacting, and it's hard to calm myself down. Like, I don't want to watch the VODs, I don't wanna know how best lost or how stork won, I just wish fantasy crush the **** out of stork, although deep down I know stork is the clear favorite in this...
I am in the middle of a bunch of midterms, and I have many important things in my life that I need to take care of, yet this whole starcraft thing, some gamer in Korea lost a game and all of a sudden I am down like this... sigh

If I had wrote this blog anywhere else I'd probably have been labeled a loser by everyone, well, I guess unless I start to pull myself together I really am one.

I got super sad that Jaedong lost.

But I realized that progamers lose all the time and it's normal but it doesn't mean they'll never win.

Take a deep breath dude and if you can a break from the scene for a week. That's what I would do.

well, I`m a big JD fan, but I didn`t get sad when he lost to free. (I know I actually like free, but I CLEARLY like Jaedong more)...I dunno how to say this but... everyone loses from time to time, and I`m certain JD will kick ass again D: . He still is in the GSL, and so is Best, so they still have somethin` to fight for

Goddamn, son - there are LOTS more things to be seriously depressed about. If you want to take your mind off of starcraft, just spend a few days reading the Economist or something. Guaranteed you'll be utterly, soul-crushingly depressed about the future instead of about starcraft.

Starcraft is passion, Starcraft is entertainment, Starcraft is fun. But in the end, Starcraft is just a video game, with people between 15 and as old as almost 30 playing, for fun. They think it's for fun, as a fan, you should remember that it is just for fun.

lol thats sad dude. You need other things in your life that you can be emotionally invested in. Starcraft progaming really isnt important and shouldnt effect you that much.
Take it for what it is: entertainment. Watch, enjoy, have fun, but dont get depressed.

i disagree, watching pro starcraft is the most fun if ure emotionally invested. U gotta root for the player of ur choice, sweat if he is in a tight spot and cheer if he got the advantage, makes the whole thing even more entertaining.

My problem was, I didn't know who I wanted to win. Frankly, all joking about stork aside, he needs an OSL title. But so does best, IMO. Stork has been so close so many times, he just *needs* to win one. and best, after getting so close last year, then to get completely humiliated and cracking under the pressure, needed to clear his name. He needed a win just as much as stork did.

And their both protoss. As a protoss player, gotta represent! So i was totally torn this matchup. In that sense, It was a bittersweet series, but, hey, it was epic nonetheless.

+ Show Spoiler +
That being said, i think best cracked under the pressure again, but stork was doing a *hell* of a good job with those reavers. Those reavers won the series for him.

Nothing wrong with being upset over a favorite player winning. No need to be outwardly emotional about it, but deep down feel free to feel sad, it's part of the enjoyment of SC. If you weren't emotional over your favorite players, then you wouldn't be emotional about SC and that would be sad.

It's always okay to feel sad whenever your favorite gamer/team/whatever loses.

+ Show Spoiler +
I was totally upset when Best won this morning. Ever since, I've been saying "It's all Stork's fault!" or "I blame Stork!" whenever something bad happens XDD But hey, it's just for fun for awhile.

Everyone gets emotionally attached to something so don't worry about it =bb

Next season yah? Don't forget, many players go through rough journeys to gain that prize!

That usually happens to me when Bisu loses. Although he's lost so much that I've gotten used to it. You were spoiled since BeSt has been on winning streaks. I assure you next time BeSt loses you won't feel so down as this time.

When Flash dropped in the absolute OMGWTF fashion, I was hoping Jaedong for MSL to make me a little happier, then Free took it (which is great for Free since his team is total shit). I honestly thought Stork would lose today but he won and itmade me happy.

But yeah, since that game 3 of GGplay and Flash... Goddamn misplaced mines... I know how you feel man

Sometimes I feel really sad after a tv drama or anime series. I wouldn't describe it as depressed, but it definitely can make me more irritable or mopey. It doesn't take long to go away, just some distractions for the day (sport is great) and a good night's sleep.

It's much more enjoyable when you get emotionally attached to something, but at the same time don't let it drag you down :D (for too long).
No I'm never serious.

ROFL I'm having a complete opposite situation! I was so happy seeing Stork win that my day just went so awesome!

Sorry if this makes you feel even worse.

And it's ok to feel a connection to your favorite progamer, just don't overreact.
<Wolfpox> i remember when MVP beat that one guy, and everyone was like 'whoa' except that penguin dude.

It's worse when you actually have to see these guys losing in person. I've had to offer words of support to several pro-gamers in the past after events (Khan at the PL finals last year, FBH during the prelims etc.) But when you see them you realise - actually they can be smiling five minutes after they've lost a game and they always come to the next event with their motivation restored. Sure, it can be saddening at the time to see your favourite players losing, but for them it isn't the end of the world. So you shouldn't let it affect you too adversely either.

Yea, I got pretty emo this morning after checking the results. Other stuff in my life aren't exactly going the best either so it was like adding salt to the injury.

However, I just hope BeSt won't slump like Pusan did after losing to Boxer in the So1 semi-finals (he did right? not sure about this). Always hope for the better and take losses positively. I've learned that the most important thing is never to give up; always keep a positive mind-set.

Read the Economist, that's a good one. I think it's a fantastic read but I guess it is sort of depressing reading about current news. We're so screwed .

Anyway you can't let something this silly depress you. You're allowed to be disappointed but don't get upset. Nothing you could've done would've changed the outcome.
