REMEMBER OTHER PEOPLE HAVE IT WORSE. ARE YOU DYING YET? ARE YOU SUFFERING THAT MUCH? More than likely people around the world would kill 10 people and a puppy to be in your position. You live in the united states, stop complaining.

Ah yes, I know so much and could know so much about people halfway from my part of the world in completely different circumstances, not to mention that they're a completely different people, people I can't relate to or know much about or even know. How am I supposed to help myself when I am concerning myself with what other people have, don't have, and can do? Isn't that what you're not supposed to do?

Trust in your own self identity or person. As for the getting through hard times like you described: Music, close friends/family, *some* time alone, crying, and fresh air. Sometimes though music and time alone either don't work or work negatively. Close friends/family is what I would suggest in most dire times.

If you break your arm you're not going to be worrying about some guy that has no arms. Maybe you can say that to your family when they say other people are in a worse situation, OP.

You arent smarter than everyone, or different than everyone, everybody has problems. Stop bitching and start doing something about it. ( not shooting up a school....) If not you will end up a bitter asshole

How old are you? Are you somewhere between the ages of 13-20? If so, then you should realize that a lot of people go through what you're going through right now. You've reached an age where you're switching from being a kid who is pampered all the time he gets down (i.e. baby cries, parent does their best to make you feel better) and you're becoming an adult who needs to fend for himself. You're not a baby anymore, you're an adult so you should learn to be able to stand on your own two feet and not have to rely on outside things to determine your emotions. You're old enough to understand that all people choose their emotions, this was strongly supported by Viktor Frankl who was found that even during his time in a Concentration Camp during the Holocaust one could choose to be happy as long as he had faith in the future. I don't know your situation, but if you really are from the USA then chances are your situation is probably way better than 90% of the world. And you should just start seeing things in a more positive light.

Get a pet. A bunny, a dog, a cat... it doesn't matter. I've never been able to have a pet personally because my mother is allergic to fur, but people with pets generally seem happier, and I imagine the feeling of having a furry little animal to spend time with and wait on you would be good. Honestly, I'm a miserable person myself. I can't tell you it's going to get better, because I know when I look at my own situation, I don't see it getting any better. The only thing to do is to keep yourself busy and hope you get lucky. Don't listen to anyone who calls you ungrateful, or points to starving kids in Africa and says you have it so much better than them, be happy. That's not a reason to be happy. Those people have no sense of logic. I'm not going to be happy because a kid in Africa is starving. Really, that doesn't make me even giggle. I just feel worse that the world is so cruel. Happiness is a relative thing. Should starving people in Africa be happy because they're not fruit flies with a lifespan of approximately 30 minutes? Of course not. The things that make people happy are not material. They're things like friendship, love, peace, and creative expression. When a person is stripped of these things, it doesn't matter whether or not they know where their next meal is coming from, whether or not they have a disease, or whether or not they have a home. They won't feel like life is worth living. Everyone has a right to be sad, and no one can tell you otherwise. Of course, there's a point where feeling sorry for yourself impedes your ability to make things better. Try not to let that happen. Force yourself to go and do things if only as a long term investment. It's the only way you'll feel proud of yourself later on. If you look back on your life and wonder if you'd only tried, would things be better now, you've failed yourself. There's no reason for that to happen. Life is what it is. Just do your best.

For me in general, a sure way to stay miserable is to think about how miserable I am or how hard my life is. And a sure way to cheer up is to go outside and exercise.

Note: And saying "oh well at least im not starving" is idiotic, if your still emotionally hurt from whatever event is going on, then theres no reason to trivialize it. Just know that it aint the end.

Ohhh why is the quote box so small... I want you right down there psytemp, I WANT YOU DOWN THERE VVVVVV Anyway. For me I find that there are some movies/books that can really give me a new perspective on things. Fight Club, V For Vendetta, A Scanner Darkly... basically movies where a character has some huge impact on the world, is insane, or both. I don't know why that is, but whenever I watch those types movies my head gets pretty clear about pretty much everything.
