or any other PC game

anyone else use the service from jact.com? basically you just play your own PC games then you rack up credits for every minute you play and you trade them in for prizes (like video games and stuff)

it's at www.jact.com

I started back in the beginning of August and I've racked up 10k credits (most are from playing SC). The good prizes cost quite a bit of credits, though, like Rock Band 2 for X360 which costs 64k credits. So this is definitely for the long-term.

There's a program (called Eamonn) you have to install so it will know when you're in a game and it will give you credits accordingly. I just leave it on in the background (it doesn't seem to take much resources, and it starts up automatically on startup so it's really like it's not even there), and I'm hoping maybe in like seven or eight months I'll have enough credits to get a newly released PS3 game for free. I kinda like the slower build-up because I'm definitely not playing SC for the sole purpose of getting more credits, I'm just playing as much as I usually do and eventually I'll get a free game or something to show for it.

Anyways, I think you can try signing up from their site. I'm not sure how it's working right now but if you want a guaranteed signup just PM me with your email and I'll send you an invite (I have only 15 right now)

and sorry if this seems like spam...

currently for US residents only as they will not ship internationally! I think you can still rack up credits in case they decide to start shipping internationally in the future

basically it counts the number of minutes you're "active" in game (meaning not sitting there afk but actually doing something) and then the program will send the number of minutes you racked up to their server on regular intervals...

the User Reviews (ie. testimonials) go back to late 2006 (so I too missed a lot of potential credit earning) so I'm pretty positive this is safe and legit. If not, I'm sure the site would have been shut down a while ago...

yeah, way too much abuse would go on if they let you do that ^^

they also seem to be able to catch botters, so that's not an option either haha. Just play as you normally would and in the long run maybe you'll get something you want for free

yeah, that's another concern people may have. Like I said, they've been around for a couple years now so if they were planting keyloggers on your computer, I don't think they'd be still around, and their forums seems pretty quiet about that issue. I don't know the details on how they know your game is "active" and that you're not botting as I'm not a programmer there, but I really am believing that they're not doing any nasty stuff. My antivirus certainly doesn't mind it ^^

is there a way to get rid of that "generating data" box that appears at the lower right corner of the screen. It's really annoying to play a game with that box there and it covers up everything. I got like 26 bux in like 15 mins

If I understand correctly, the company is selling the numbers (how many hours of what games people are playing) to advertising companies. At least that's how it was vaguely explained on their site. They don't sell any personal data.

I'm tempted to give this a shot. Doesn't appear to have any serious catches that could cause any harm.

Then they would all buy Rock Band for 69,000 points and our progaming scene would dissolve in chaos!

You can turn that off in the options of Eamonn

and I obtained an interview of JACT's president from tentonhammer.com http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/44675

I should note that JACT is currently only for US residents (but IdrA should be fine though since he can just send stuff to his USA home... ^^). They may decide to expand to international people so you can still rack up credits if you're a non-US resident (this is according to their FAQs) and hope for the best

Hi all, I'm the community manager at JACT. I saw some new users were joining from TL.net and wanted to offer to answer any questions you have. For technical concerns (no, we absolutely do not do any keylogging!), check out our Privacy Policy and User Agreement.

Just a few notes - we're US-only (as blabber mentioned) and you must be at least 13 yrs old to join. Anyway come check us out so you can start Playing with Purpose.

It would take 2279 hours to get a $260 videocard. That's like four years of regular playing. Or, I could work two days.

You spend over three months in two years playing videogames? Enjoying it that much isn't good for you.

To address the gain for JACT...JACT makes money in three basic ways:
1) traditional ads on www.jact.com, targeted to you as you browse our Mall products.
2) sponsorships for the items listed in the Mall. For example, iBUYPOWER is sponsoring a gaming rig right now, to spread the word about their custom-built PC's.
3) aggregated data to be sold to the gaming industry in the form of reports. We don't use individual data, but we might say, for example, 50% of JACT gamers who play CS 1.6 also play CSS, or 70% of WoW players also pre-ordered a copy of WotLK in the JACT Mall. (Those are made up stats, but examples of what info we might sell.)

To address the accrual rate... JACT is meant to be a rewards program similar to airline miles or credit card points; it gives something back for things you're already doing anyway (in this case, gaming instead of using your credit card or taking lots of flights). It's not meant to give you an iPod a week, or we'd go out of business. That said, there are lots of ways to get involved with just a couple hours of gameplay, including prize drawings (takes less than 2 hours of active gameplay to enter) and a chance to earn up to 5x the bux rate on our css server.

well I didn't care to actually calculate how long that actually is. But eventually I'll have something that he won't for free just for playing computer games (which I'm expecting to do a lot in the future with Starcraft II)

and I don't think it's really 1 minute to 1 credit, I remember reading that it was about 1 minute to 1.07 credit. It can change though, I believe

I've played a bit of Oblivion for two different periods to get a feel for the credits. First time I played about 15 minutes and accumulated 18 credits. Then I played again for about an hour, but ended my session with a game crash, and only accumulated 16 credits. Don't know if the game crash affected my credit accumulation, but it doesn't appear to follow a credits per minute formula exactly.

While it is technically "subject to change," we haven't changed it since I've been working at JACT, and we're not planning to. The actual accrual rate is proprietary, but there are a lot of threads discussing it on our forums, from gamers who've been with JACT for a long time.

Liking this so far. Been playing Oblivion pretty heavily the last few days and I'm up to 775 points. Will take some time rack up the points to get something decent (unless I want to try my luck with the contests), but I haven't noticed any ill effects running the program.
