I was stuck behind an old lady in traffic for 20 minutes today. She was cruising at a steady 15 miles per hour on the freeway with her right turn signal on the whole time. She was holding up traffic for miles. I think I have skin cancer now because I was stuck under the sun for so long. Vultures started to circle her car because she was so damn old. This lady looked like she was going to die any second. It was grotesquely obvious that she was wearing a wig, and probably had a colostomy bag. She was hunched over the steering wheel like she was giving birth to the damn thing.

Stupid old hag, she's probably bitter because she's so old, withered and worthless, so she's trying to take it out on everyone else by driving slow on the free way, voting for shitty presidents, and bitching about social security.

My solution: let's eat them! We'll dress up a slaughter house like a retirement home, and then we'll trick them into going with promises of free prune juice and quality health care (bwahaha). Then we'll throw them into the meat grinder and there you have it: instant geriatric burgers.

i was reading this and i was seriously nauseated. I also watched sweeny todd (in which people were eaten directly) and secret window (in which johnny depp ate corn that were taking their nutrients from human bodies). what makes human meat different from eating a cow or a pig? are we conditioned to be averse to the idea of eating another person? or is it a survival mechanism? (people who have a penchant for eating other people slowly die out because they eat each other too much or something).

Soylent green is people!

Maybe it's a bit like the difference between dog meat and cow meat, but a much larger difference. I'm tempted to say it's to do with human emotions (or whatever it is that makes us value pets), but I'm pretty clueless about the subject.

These aren't understood entirely, but essentially cannibalism (for any species) = bad.

Aren't those diseases caused by eating the brain and other organs, rather than the flesh though?

Bah lost post
But as far as I know there are no proof that cannibalism causes prion dieses. They are transmitted via cannibalism sure, but cannibalism doesn't cause them.
They can be inherited, aquired via infection or appear sporadically. The exact reasons for the sporadic cases are unknown but there are speculation that ingestion of too much manganese might cause Mn to substitute for Cu in the protein and thus cause the conformation change.
The kuru case is believed to have started as a sporadic case that were then passed on to every single member of the tribe since their funerals called for ritual dismemberment and they then used the same tools for ordinary cooking -_-.
(More or less the same thing has happened a lot in western countries but with neuro surgeries as the cause rather than funerals)

Why cannibalism isn't common among humans I think has more to do with the fact that we are very social animals. We require others to survive, thus eating them is a bit... counter productive.

People will resort to cannibalism when starving though, so maybe it's the same social reasons (most) people don't murder each other.

That's because you never tasted it, you'd change your mind on the first beef.

Isn't it ultimately coded in our genes to NOT hurt our own species? I've always thought that was the reason.

Absolutely not. We might find it disguisting to eat our own kind.. but certainly not to hurt another.

I bet humans taste like chicken, cow, pig and any other animal. Meat is meat but our culture despises eating some animals (our western culture - dogs, eastern culture - cows) but does that meat it tastes bad? Tell me your is your steak, burger or anything else tasting? Good? Yeah. Same goes for most animal meat on this planet.

Actually I think survival instinct and competition are coded on our genes. Remember there was a time when only the strongest and smartest survived. And think about some wars in the past, a huge part of human history is carved with wars and blood shed.

Can you explain why you were nauseated? I dont get it. There was nothing in that quote that would do that. Am I missing something?

I dont see whats wrong with cannibalism as long as you arent killing people. If someone is already dead and you eat them, then I really couldnt care less. Meat is meat. It might be interesting to see what a human tastes like, but Im not sure I could do it.
Some people eat a woman's placenta and that isnt looked down at. I dont see how eating human flesh would be much different. The placenta is definately part of a human.

I was playing Colonization which attributes the Tupi's cannibalism to the lack of easy protein sources in the jungle. Supposedly they would eat their dead, because otherwise it would just be lost to the jungle. Put in this light, it doesn't seem like it is so bad...

On the other hand, they also engaged in war amongst themselves so they could eat their enemies in rituals. That seems less like necessity and more like want and religious reasons.

Anyways, humans are pretty bony... I'm not sure it would be terribly pleasant thing. Is it coded in is? I don't think so, or if it is there are circumstances that can override that. I think most humans would prefer not to simply because they know that other human beings are like us- they have a family and friends and a life, and we should respect that not want to eat them. Even once they're dead I suspect this lingers, because let's face it, do you want anyone else eating a loved one's remains?
