open mic night
it's 4:40 AM right now. tonight at 9 PM, i will be getting ready to go on stage and play acoustic guitar and sing at open mic night like a total sensitive emo fag.
I shall equip my acoustic guitar. I shall ingest anywhere from 2-4 beers. Finally, I shall stretch and strain my vocal cords until they reach the unnaturally high pitch that you're hearing in this song.
i've never sang in front of anyone except my ex-gf once or twice while i was drunk. i'm scared of performing on stage in the first place, but to actually sing in front of a crowd.... . .. . . . . ... .. . . .
LOL wish me luck
That was part one, three weeks ago. Open mic night got postponed a few times before it finally happened last night. I got home from work, took a few shots, and threw my guitar into the back of my sister's car. Off we go!it's 4:40 AM right now. tonight at 9 PM, i will be getting ready to go on stage and play acoustic guitar and sing at open mic night like a total sensitive emo fag.

When I got to the venue, someone was already playing. His songs were called "Waiting For You" and "I'm Sensitive" and other stuff like that. However, he did play electric instead of acoustic. Now, for some people that can be okay, but if you're trying to look super gay, acoustic is the way to go.
I sat down next to my sister's boyfriend who had signed me up for the competition. He was next, and then me. This guy, Adam, was a big help in getting me to do this! Thanks Adam!
He got up and played 4 extremely punk rock songs that made me laugh a little bit. Note that I wasn't laughing at him, just at the absurd contrast it was from the crying acoustic dorks and anorexic poet girls.
My sister had brought a brown bag full of mini-shots, so that when it was finally my turn to sing, I was pretty tipsy. I stumbled onto the stage and tried to adjust the mics a little bit before plopping down on the chair to let Adam do it. Thanks again, Adam!
It was time to play. It was time to sing. I said a few words to the audience and strummed the first few chords of a song. I liken that moment to a stuntman revving his engine for the giant, terrifying, never-before-attempted jump. Then I jumped.
I played Gone For Good by The Shins first, followed by 1979 by the Smashing Pumpkins, followed by the first half of a song intrigue wrote that we've been working on. It was a spur of the moment song that I probably would not have sung had it not been for the amount of alcohol imbibed previously. It was a good choice, only I wish it was more than just the first half.
You're probably thinking, "Wow what an awkward way to end your set! You just abruptly stopped?" Well, I said, "And that's all I've got right now. Thank you all for being such an attentive audience and I love you all. The end."
After the show, I asked one of my best friends, who had shown up to show his support, for an objective review. He's the kind of guy you can ask for that kind of thing and expect an honest answer. And this is what he said:
Honest Opinion: Started out at 90% and ended at 75%. But, it was consistently good. Very few mistakes were made, and he powered through them all. His singing was really good, but high notes could have been hit better. Guitar playing was basic but strong. Better posture could have been used, but at least he didn't fall over. Almost. Other than that, great job for a first night! Nay, fantastic! And I hope to see him more again in the future! (with less alcohol)
All in all, I did it!
